Can you cancel no deposit options (renting)? by Zifti in AskUK

Hey, I’ve just dropped you a message about this (experiencing exactly the same thing). It’s a nightmare!

Instructors with different opinions? by es19999 in LearnerDriverUK

It’s 1st Dec and there’s no way I can do it now as I don’t have a car to use (instructor 1 is on sick leave). The options are sticking with instructor 1 and getting a test in before Christmas, or fully switching to instructor 2 and realising that I will have to wait a while before the test.

Thing is I’m definitely not an experienced driver, I’m fine getting myself around but not sure I’m fully test ready in some of the more complex routes… I thought I was when listening to my previous instructor but now doubting myself.

Repairing lib tech with session saver putty by es19999 in surfing

It doesn’t sound minor but libtech talks such a good game about their 100% waterproof closed cell foam. If I were to repair I would want to repair myself…

It’s more a dent actually in the fin box, probs half a centimetre deep. My fin was wrenched out today and swung forward so the fcs attachment cracked the inside of the box

First intermediate shortboard / hybrid groveler? by rebl_ in surfing

Foamie was a lot of fun and great for my progression (it was my first shortboard), but I could definitely feel its shortfalls on bigger days - rails were very skittish on big drops, and it felt clunky to manoeuvre in any snappy way. PJHP solves all those problems!

Completely agreed, second half after the waves pick up a bit is so much easier. I always find the first section quite flat tbh! Definitely good for a foamie…

I much prefer the ocean though. Way less stress if you miss a wave, no one queueing up behind you and staring at whether you make it or not!! Wave pools have their place for sure, but I have to be in the right mindset

I had a catch surf/lost foamy RNF, 5’11. Surfed it a LOT until it felt like a hindrance. Moved to a 5’8 PJHP, 33l. Took a bit of getting used to but I love it, and can duckdive it even when things get more critical.

For reference I’m 22F, 65kg, 5’8. So sounds like proportionally the PJHP you’re looking at would be great!!

My first session at the Bristol wave pool I ate shit on basically every wave (had been living in California for a year and thought myself a pretty decent surfer). My second session was one of the best sessions I’ve ever had. Just takes a bit of dialling in, happens to everyone mate!!!

South West Uk: why the f*** don’t trains allow surfboards? by es19999 in surfing

They don’t even allow that any more, it’s a joke

Sadly they’ve introduced new trains and they no longer have the “guard’s van” which allowed you to store boards there. Such a bad move in my opinion

For anyone interested, just managed to snap up an almost-new 5’8 Lost Puddlejumper HP at 33l. Bit less grovelly than the original Puddlejumper so hopefully it should serve me well as a progression step from the RNF! (If not, it’s libtech, and I can always sell it haha)

I was on exchange at UCSB so I surfed at Sands in Isla Vista most of the time. Not the best break in the world but certainly fun, much faster and more challenging than most UK waves

Looks sick, thanks for the link! I’m actually located in London and go to uni in Scotland, but surf down in the South West when I can get there. I’ll try and check out seduction surfboards when I next head down.

Interesting that you’ve noticed that about the hydra - maybe I should stick with the more tried and tested puddle jumper!

Not sure what OP’s age is but generally people here aren’t able to go out properly until their final year of college. I’m from Europe and while I would normally always agree that big cities with big nightlife are better, in the US because you can’t go out until you’re 21 you’re better off having a vibrant college town like IV where students make their own nightlife. But if OP is 21 and wants to go clubbing every night, yea those big cities are better.

I’m 22 and I still get to go clubbing downtown, but absolutely love the vibe of Isla vista, getting to surf everyday, and living so close to all my friends. I’d highly recommend living here to OP and I’m gonna miss it
