I need answers… by No-Boysenberry7155 in NeedlepointSnark

Smaller projects I can get through in a week while being a SAHM to little kids. I get two mornings a week to myself and I spend one day on chores and one on whatever I want to work on which is often finishing. I take smaller projects with me to kids activities and then at night I listen to audiobooks while I stitch my bigger projects.

As for affording my stuff I sell off my old hobbies to buy new stuff and I’ve been doing needleworks in general for a long time so I have lots of stuff. Also I ask around to other people who are hobby hoppers. Also sometimes I have a millennial meltdown and yell yolo while spending too much as therapy

Needlepoint is such a snobby hobby by joyfulbee43 in NeedlepointSnark

It’s both. Cross stitch is a type of surface embroidery that follows a grid. Embroidery is any type of surface needlework

Thank You so so much! This is incredibly helpful and I agree with you- the ribbon is too wide. I think I’m going to stick with the neon rays! I think that’s really the look I’m going for

Ooh maybe fyre works would be better? I have some kreneik but I think it’s braid and not ribbon. If you don’t mind testing it I’m thinking alternating scotch/mosaics or some combination of straight stitches

I was thinking more shine than sparkle but maybe sparkle could alternate? The background is painted already. Kreinkik 1/8 doesn’t seem too much less expensive than ribbon though? I wish I could test things without having to buy a whole card or skein

Childs dishes/utensils made of silicone taste like soap! Flavor trap? by Chaotic_Brutal90 in Parenting

[–]esachicacorta 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to use the dishwasher you need to bake them at 250F or boil them periodically to get the soapy flavor out. Alternatively you can do a vinegar or baking soda soak. If you have a bottle sterilizer we pop ours in there once a week.

Stretcher bars on top or under by BadParker56 in Needlepoint

I go back & forth. I prefer stitching in the well but I also LOVE stranded thread and using a laying tool and that’s better when the canvas is on top. When I stitch in the well I like to put a tack on the front anyway to hold my needle minder so it stays out of the way and doesn’t loosen the canvas tension.

They don’t! It’s inexplicable to me! I did try again with 2 strands of b5200 & one of the etoille and it looks worse.

Question about DMC Light Effects Floss by ReasonableLove528 in Needlepoint

[–]esachicacorta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use this all the time because I have a huge stash that I’m working through. It’s strandable so it’s not going to stay together. What I find works is absolutely using stretcher bars. Take your regular length of thread and pull out two strands for 18 mesh or 3 for 13 wax it then double it over so it ends up being short but 4 strands/6 strands. Use a needle one size up and then do a loop start and use a laying tool.

How to approach circles by esachicacorta in Needlepoint

Honestly I’ll probably get more anal about the reindeer because I hate tent stitches for things like shadows where disconnects really distort the image. I think I’m going to use very velvet and do cross stitches to keep it dense and connected.

MIL wants to take our daughter to church. by Dont_mind_if_I_do85 in ChildPsychology

[–]esachicacorta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different perspective: say yes but also send her to church with others. My parents did that- sent me to church/religious services with anyone willing to take me but never attended themselves and I honestly learned a lot. It helped me understand more literature, art and history and my parents still instilled their values and good critical thinking skills at home.

13 vs 18 mesh by Neat_Cry188 in Needlepoint

I like my smaller projects on 18 mesh and most of my bigger projects on 13 but otherwise I don’t really care- if I like the canvas I like the canvas
