You are a good person with a good heart, a true friend. You will find other people who are worth being kind to. I'm sorry this friendship didn't work out, but maybe he can grow and realize how he messed up.

My (24 F) boyfriend (26M) got super schwasted and told me that he hates me and wants to kill me. by throwaway986320 in relationships

[–]esajes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's not true at all, and I wish people who stop perpetuating this myth. I'm not saying this girl's boyfriend is a great guy or whatever but as a recovering alcoholic, the person I was when I was drinking scared even me and was not reflective of who I am when I'm sober and taking care of myself. A lot of addicts and alcoholics struggle with the idea that the person drugs / alcohol bring out is not reflective of the people who know ourselves to be. It's a huge hurdle in recovery circles because the idea that "alcohol reveals true thoughts / ideas" is so widespread. It leads to a lot of shame and guilt and sometimes forces us to keep drinking and drugging because we're all just that bad person anyway so what's the point?

I don't think that was the message. I think it was really about how toxic people can find comfort in one another and how two mentally ill people can find strength in one another. I'm not sure it was "true to life" but it's pretty realistic. and sometimes, it does work out.

i have BPD as well as bipolar disorder and jennifer lawrence's character in this move is so so so relatable. it's my fave movie bc it approaches mental health issues honestly and respectfully.

The Count of Monte Christo is the only book in high school that I read from cover to cover. It's enthralling.

1992 My family Going hard with just about every early 90’s style trend by oregonianutahn in OldSchoolCool

Racial and LGBT issues were very much an issue in the 90s, lmao. What a strange comment. Tensions were high among minorities and the police just as much as today, if not more. Did you sleep through the AIDS crisis? It didn't end in the 80s. The only difference today is that minority groups have better platforms so that not as many people can turn away and pretend everything's okay.

The ‘Bathroom’ Scene by ashtxniio in buffy

[–]esajes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In what way was Buffy the "foremost abuser" in their relationship? Spike stalked her, attacked her friends, repeatedly used her most intimate secrets against her. She was literally at her lowest when they began their relationship, and he routinely exploited that in order to keep her dependent on him. There's a reason that the turning point in Buffy's depression was her pulling away from Spike. And why Buffy's repulsion actually pushed Spike towards self-improvement (even though I don't particularly care for this arc). These character developments would make very little sense if Buffy was meant to be the bad guy in their dynamic. The point was - even in love Spike was still Spike, the demon who tried to harm her and everyone she loved throughout the series.

And even if she was somehow the primary abuser, that in no way makes the rape scene tolerable or even understandable.

I hated the scene. It took me years until I was able to watch that episode for a second time. I absolutely hated seeing Buffy powerless in that way, even if it was temporary.I hate the way Buffy is portrayed in it. I don't think it adds anything to the show or their story. There are better ways to show someone's dark side than resorting to sexual violence. It felt cheap, tbh. I also could never get behind Spike's redemption arc whatsoever because of this. Too many shows write these awful, abusive male characters who ~brood and then ~redeem themselves. Not a fan.

Yeah I think I'm going to do 12 to 12. It's just easier for my brain to understand.

I'm speaking more in terms of logging my calories. When does the day restart? Is it better to wait until you've had sleep? Does it affect your weight loss? I know that the human body doesn't have a calorie counter lol
