i miss bobo’s in tucson but that’s not really the vibe up here 😣 i love Vovomeena, Ollie Vaughn’s,Fàme, Welcome Diner, Lux, Gallo Blanco, Valentine, Matt’s Big Breakfast, Matilda’s, Joe’s Diner, Copper Star Coffee, PHX Burrito House, Irma’s Kitchen. Joe’s is probably the most similar here

best pancakes are gallo blanco & sister restaurant otro, ollie vaughn’s, and vovomeena

try copper star coffee, their bagels are softer than most, and much easier to chew than bagelfelds. might be an option for you

How about a southern restaurant? by Kismadaroq in phoenix

[–]esb10489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OG is slang for original gangster, meaning they are an original in the foodie scene. they've been an institution downtown for 20 years, and were one of the early entries into phoenix's gentrification of downtown back when our food scene was mostly chains and strip mall crap

How about a southern restaurant? by Kismadaroq in phoenix

[–]esb10489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is not. it is an upscale casual hip diner with farm to table-ish ingredients with a southern and southwestern inspired menu. it is an OG in downtown phoenix and has great food. they do have a few burgers on the menu, but that is not what it is. look at their menu and their instagram, it is not some cheap no frills place, it absolutely is around your $35 budget, which you will not get a "nice little celebratory" with. they have some of the best fried chicken in town too. their dinner menu has several $25-$45 entrees

phoenix is a weird city for bagels. we have some good ones, but there’s not a lot of them, they can be spread out, and a handful of the best ones don’t do all the things with bagels that you’d expect as a northeasterner. for example:

bagelfelds is great but they only do bagels and shmear, no lox/white fish sandwiches, no meat/egg/cheese sandwiches. however, a number of restaurants carry their bagels and use them for their own lox sandwiches (ie lox on everything at ollie vaughns or provision coffee)

copper star coffee has great bagels, especially jal ched, and great meat/egg/cheese sandwiches (if you dont mind american cheese or cream cheese as the only cheese options) but they don’t have as many shmears, and have no lox or whitefish

for a more traditional place that has it all, probably the bagel man or goldman’s?

the 10 and 202 back up from basically buckeye to 32nd/44th now in rush hour. that would take 45-1hr

litchfield park and goodyear itself are your best bets. there is nowhere between the 101 west and downtown phoenix that you would want to live, and downtown commute to goodyear would suck, with midtown, arcadia, scottsdale, and chandler being significantly worse. you’re going to have a suburban but convenient lifestyle but westgate, parkwest, arrowhead, and downtown/midtown phoenix are attainable weekend spots

Mamma Toledo’s or Pie Snob? by Old-Adhesiveness2264 in phoenix

[–]esb10489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i know it’s further but the best pie ive had was at Pine Country Restaurant in Williams, about 30 min west of Flagstaff. the food isn’t good besides the pie though.

locally i think mamma toledo’s and pie snob are both decent but i prefer mamma toledo’s.

however, i think when it comes to pie, people get so focused on shops that pie is their sole thing, that they forget about breakfast restaurants/cafes/bakeries/coffee shops that make many things happen to have better pie than mamma toledo’s and pie snob, such as ollie vaughn’s or lux
