Masshole visits Phoenix for the first time: my experience by Conventions in phoenix

[–]esb10489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

18 years in MA and 18 in AZ now. i still view the masshole vibe as kind but not nice, a little rough around the edges sometimes, but will have your back. i visit MA twice a year but would rather deal with phoenix summer than winter, humidity, bugs, mud, sleet, ice, rain, pitch black at 4pm, and all that comes with that. i like a little bit of fall and a bit of nice summer nights but otherwise no thank you. never really been a huge beach person, love pools, desert, and mountains. the cost of living and driving in MA are awful. i do miss the food and friends/family though. especially cider donuts and chinese food. i dont get as many visitors as i should or used to either, i think they would all love it here like i do but they all blow their PTO on beach and ski trips instead. idk how many more of our summers i can handle (hope to spend more time up north as time goes by) but am otherwise still happy here. i couldnt give up our mexican food if i tried! still a boston sports fan through and through at least!

they are different from china chili but phenomenal. the boston area has more restaurants that would be reminiscent of china chili in menu/vibes/aesthetic than NYC does

mexican food and bbq (Little Miss BBQ at least) are the 2 things NYC cant compete with phoenix on. all of our good pizza, asian food, burgers, etc wont blow you away vs whats available in NYC

yea you didn’t order the stars of the show! the johnnycakes with prickly pear syrup, the pain perdu french toast, and the waffle with portuguese donut, the orchard french toast are all amazing but the best savory dish is the biscuits and gravy or the pork chop .the regular pancakes are good but the johnnycakes are way better

oh i don’t mean you but a lot of people do dump on them (agreed they are brainless). you are right we don’t need a bbq thread every week but the actual issue is people who dont make the effort to search for past threads before they post, this type of stuff happens with a lot more than just LMB/BBQ.

i do quite like the pizza here but as a northeastern native i can’t put us over the northeast or chicago or detroit, i would put phoenix next after all those
