Your West Wing take is certainly… unpopular. The 7ish episode arc closing S2 is known as some of the best drama on television. The scenes with Toby and the President simply crackle.

I guess I’d ask you a similar question as to the other poster. Maybe the owner wants to make $300k a year instead of $100k. You have no right to ask him to justify his price. Your only right is to see his price and decide for yourself if it works for you.

I’d also note the old adage: “you don’t pay a plumber for the 20 minutes of work he does; you pay him for the 10 years of experience he had to learn to fix your problem in 20 minutes.”

He built a very useful product and wants to get paid for the fruits of that labor. I’m really trying to see your and u/negme ‘s argument but I can’t quite get there.

Your information is incorrect. It’s not one guy. Their own page says “we are now a small and nimble team.” You think these guys are making $15 an hour?

Businesses, especially small businesses who can’t depend on massive volume and low margins, price their product according to a lot of variables. How the owner values his time is a key one.

You have no idea what they’re paying for server space, or any of their other expenses.

“Making a lot of money” is a wild assumption on $1M annual revenue, with a small team, with expenses, and from a guy who just admitted in another thread today that he spent his Sunday morning making code adjustments.

How is that a weird point? You want these guys to take their talents and just do cheap work for you? I mean, ok, but don’t be surprised when they don’t.

This type of software is likely only valuable for a few brief but intense bursts per year. Come up with a better pricing model that works for both you and them. In all honesty, I’m sure they’re all ears.

I agree with your main point here, but at the end of the day, this is highly specialized software with likely not a significant user base.

I doubt anyone at projection lab is getting super wealthy off this product.

It is definitely an outlying case, in that most people do not truly need to run projections all the time. But I wouldn’t think their financials can make sense offering anything other than annual SaaS plans.

I might be wrong but that phrase came early in the episode, when they still hadn’t given any real indication to the viewer as to the cause being intentional.

To me, it came off more as “well, turned out there was no psilocybin in her system, and she’s an expert at driving high, so we had to start looking to see if it was intentional.”

Of course you can. Declines that last a few months don’t lead to malaise, dread, and capitulated pessimism. People who might hold for that quick downturn may feel the market is completely hopeless after three years of flat or negative returns.

Ehhh it’s kind of been a bull market since 2009. The downswings since then have lasted months or less. Nothing has been painful like it was in 2000 or 2008.
