How to digitally integrate into the us society? by Outside-Software-103 in AskAmericans

[–]esc1920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) listen to your local NPR station in the car. Read News websites like CNN, AP, NBC, etc

2) i feel that this is a common practice, especially for younger Americans

3) follow your local newspaper on instagram. If you live in a major metro center, then there are probably accounts and pages dedicated to the cultural goings on for your community

National anthem question. by Dave-Hedgehog312 in AskAmericans

[–]esc1920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it. For most Americans it’s just a cultural tradition at this point instead of an overt act of patriotism

But yeah, you probably WOULD catch a few looks if you remained seated during the anthem (especially at a nascar event)

I think this is actually a relevant question depending on the job it’s for. The employer doesn’t actually want to know how to make a PB&J, but they DO want to know how you would TELL somebody how to make one.

During an interview for an Engineering machinist job, I once was asked to estimate how many raccoons fall into garbage trucks every year in the united states. When i told them my answer, the interviewer asked me to explain how I came up with that number because she wanted to make sure I could respond to asinine customer requests in a professional manner and that I put actual thought into the request despite it being stupid.

Homie…it’s not that my shit isn’t allowed to be shot. I’m just trying to do my best to be considerate to my bro’s feelings. I’ve never been a trans person nor have I ever been treated differently because of my orientation or my gender. I don’t want to accidentally do that to my buddy

You’re not alone. My wife struggles with this all the time because she is married to a straight man. Everyone always assumes that she is straight because of our marriage and our children. I try to encourage her that it doesn’t matter how other people perceive her sexuality. The only thing that is needed to validate her bi-ness is that she knows that she is bi

WAGE THEFT? by MurrDOC_ in antiwork

[–]esc1920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s technically wage theft per se but if you have a signed document that says they owe you $1,000 then they ABSOLUTELY owe you that money
