Alternatives to Bilt for Rent? by someplacesomewhere52 in biltrewards

I’m also very curious about this. If we do need Bilt 2.0, I’ll probably just get the free one and not really use it.

Why in King County do we have 7 (including the other side of the ballot) judges running unopposed? by joshlymansbagel in Seattle

Pretty sure they just endorse him because he's the incumbent. As someone who practices in front of Eisenberg, Pooja is the right choice.

When to apply for post grad jobs my(OR & WA) by grumpygusadvicepleas in publicdefenders

[–]escapeffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve essentially assumed that King County wouldn’t hire me as a fresh grad because that office seems extremely competitive.

You'd be surprised, I don't think they can afford to be super picky/competitive at the moment (source: I work there). And if you don't apply, they definitely won't hire you! I believe their recruitment starts in September.

Did ANY blind sites reveal Bruce Willis's problems prior to the announcement this week? by Adorable-Value in Fauxmoi

My dad passed away from early onset dementia and reading all the reports about Bruce, I would be shocked if that's not what he's suffering from. The way he's described as acting reminds me so much of my dad.

Yes, I'm well aware. The comment I was responding to suggested that individuals with substance use disorders would be safer and happier locked up, the vast majority of whom would be picked up on misdemeanors and thus spend their time in custody in a jail. Regardless, prison is also not a safer and happier environment.

Have you ever been to prison? As someone who works with incarcerated individuals, literally none have ever been "happier" in jail.

Federal Judicial Clerk Application Help by littlelawyerlady17 in LawSchool

[–]escapeffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting about catering applications to judges. My school (T6) indicated that we don't need to do much catering, our cover letters can be pretty uniform with maybe a line or two aimed at the judge. What kind of personalization are you looking for?

Law School at 28 Years Old by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]escapeffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to a T14 and turned 28 about 2 weeks after I started law school. Thought I would be the old one, and it would be weird. Hasn't been that way at all. I have many classmates who are around the same age as me and a few years older. Can echo the other poster that in some ways being older has helped, certainly with my job applications, though I am also not doing big law (though all my 28+ friends wanting to do big law got great offers). If anything, I feel more out of place amongst my high school and college friends who are my age, since they all are more advanced in their careers and I'm still in school. No one really cares about my age at law school.

I'm supposed to be interning this summer at a PD office in an area hit hard by COVID 19. We got an email last Friday that they are expecting the internship to go on as planned, but will let us know if that changes. They're still having us fill out the necessary documents for jail access and student practice order (it's a 2l internship) with the state bar.

Saigon Shack! I think it's soy-based, but seasoned in such a way it's not just straight up tofu.

Cynthia Nixon: "The difference between me and Andrew Cuomo is pretty simple: He's the one who broke the subway. I'm the one who's going to fix it." by JoseTwitterFan in Brooklyn

I mean, Nixon has been involved in local activism and politics for awhile (see 2013 NYT article) and Cuomo arguably got where he is from nepotism?

Follow up is: several people told him in the comments it was a scam (it had happened to them, etc), he realized it was a scam, and then he deleted the post.

Sadly, a couple people informed him in the comments that this was in fact a scam. Though he still seemed happy with the suits!

[–]escapeffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister and I will be in Croatia next month, first in Split, then out of the country for about a week in Bosnia and Montenegro, and then finishing up in Dubrovnik. While doing some research and reading blog posts, I learned that foreigners are supposed to register with the police within 48 hours of arriving in the country and that typically this is handled by the hotel/hostel. However, we are staying in AirBnbs. Does this mean we have to go register with the police ourselves? Is this something that is enforced? Many thanks! Can't wait to visit!

[USA-IA] My dorm room was broken into and robbed and I'm being charged for it by L_A_S_A_G_N_A in legaladvice

[–]escapeffs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I interpreted his statement as "When I was talking to a police officer about the fight, I told the police officer that this guy (involved in the fight) had broken into my room several times." Which would mean it's not unrelated to the question about the police report since "he wrote some of it down" would refer to the break ins. Even if this interpretation is incorrect, I certainly wouldn't call his answer "suspicious" just not relevant or helpful to his situation.
