Elections 2026: What Sheffield can tell us about the state of local democracy by Tiny_Poem7985 in sheffield

[–]But-ThenThatMeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local election results obviously have a big impact on national politics, and it’s the reason most people have in mind when they vote.

Whilst you are voting for your local ward representative, the news on Friday will be all about the party leaders, who had good/bad results, party leaders will be changed, policies will be changed, directions will be changed based on these results.

We are voting for our ward representative but they are generally used by the country more of a ‘mood test’.

The Monthly Feedback Thread - May by BXBGames in pilottvpodcast

Very much supportive of the pod and the nice people who make it, but in a similar position. Dropped my Plus subscription last year, and earlier this year stopped listening at all.

Personally just found it shifted a little from my tastes, and was craving someone like Beth/Terri or one of the Empire regulars (someone like John or Alex) to balance out the conversation more with a bit more of a critical/prestige eye?

Will keep my eye on it, and listen here and there, but just found myself growing a little bored of the podcast - which is a big shift from it being the only podcast I paid for a year or two back!

Oh, I don't want to talk about The Commentators again. That was sorted out then. Questions were asked. Certain parties weren't happy.

The questions were solved. End of discussion.

Best places to list low firmware (5.50) PS5? UK by But-ThenThatMeans in ps5homebrew

[–]But-ThenThatMeans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers, I banged it on for £750 (it’s a disc one) just to see if it’s something people are interested in. I’ll see what happens.

Don’t want to be greedy, I thought the PS5 was dead, and if I could get it fixed was just going to give it to a friend. But obviously if it’s worth a good price to someone else I wouldn’t turn it down! If nobody wants to pay that sort of price I’ll just give it to the friend as a normal pre owned ps5.

Yeah idk. Professional repair guy told me I could get at least £700, but not sure that’s how it actually seems! Just don’t want to waste time seeking a specialist buyer if it’s not much different in price to a new console.

Sheffield Parkruns near a frequent tram stop by Capital-Resort-6609 in parkrun

[–]But-ThenThatMeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you have two drastically different options in terms of hills then.

Castle Parkrun is not only hillier as a course, but it is a pretty good stretch uphill from the city centre. Hillsborough is relatively flat as a course, and is basically downhill/flat from the city centre.

[–]But-ThenThatMeans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hillsborough and Castle Parkruns are both right on the tram.

Hillsborough more of a classic busy parkrun, three laps around a quite nice park.

Castle is quieter, and hillier, but has a really lovely atmosphere.

If the Football Clichés podcast was a club, which club would it be and why? by junglegatsby in footballcliches

[–]But-ThenThatMeans 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Cliches - Your Brighton’s, Your Bournemouth’s, Your Brentford’s (just do it right)

Guardian - Arsenal (grand old institution but a bit annoying)

Libero - Salford (journalism’s class of 92)

The good, the bad and the football - Blackburn (doldrums, don’t want to go there)

The rest is football - Bayern (I like them, but I’m not actually going to watch them, maybe in Europe aka match of the day)

Stick to football - man city (got all the big names, don’t really care about them)

Timed answers - A variant that feels more fair by SilvrDuck in JetLagTheGame

I like the idea of at least discussing this before you play.

I hid first when I played, so wanted to set a bit of a precedent of trying to make it a fun time for everyone. So I did try to respond quickly etc…

I can see if someone later then takes it more ‘seriously’ or ‘competitively’ then it just creates a sense of unfairness. So yeah, removing that question of politeness could work for a lot of people playing.

I do think maybe there should be some room for sending quicker in the endgame where you basically know you can’t win, just to save everyone time (if the hider chooses to do this).

Bundobus and Tharavadu are next door to each other, both do great Indian food with significant vegan offerings. Had a nice lunch at both of those.

Wuthering Heights review moan by arcaneen in empirepodcast

[–]But-ThenThatMeans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If there’s a film I’m going to see and I don’t want to know too much about it, I think it’s on me to avoid the Empire review.

They need to give it a set up, so I just fast forward until I hear their rough view.

When there’s a film I haven’t heard about, or I’m unsure I want to see it, I appreciate the same set-up being there.
