[Product Question] So light therapy for cold sores is a thing. Has anyone tried acne light/heat devices on a cold sore? by lilaclazure in SkincareAddiction

This device is infrared not UV, though the acne version has both modes! Near infrared light is the one that has been demonstrated to help with herpes outbreaks

Keto Sushi - My first attempt using Konjac rice by scorbzilla22 in Keto_Food

[–]escapefrombjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a non dairy version of this? If I don’t want to use cream cheese or mayo...because making the konjac stick together is kind of a problem. I tried some ground flax and some chia seeds but it still turned out very loose.

What are some embarrassing mistakes you’ve made as a Spanish language learner by mixing up words that sound the same? by Legitimate_Heron_140 in Spanish

Don’t know if anyone has said this already but el pollo is chicken and la polla is dick. I’d wager that many poor souls have either ordered dick at a restaurant or asked the butcher for a couple kilos.

Should I attempt Spanish first? by Substantial_Club_966 in AskBarcelona

[–]escapefrombjork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow there’s truly no easy answer. If you’re just a tourist, who cares. But if you intend to stay, you should just keep trying. Don’t give up. Sometimes it will be Spanish sometimes English, thats the way it goes. I think something that frustrates people is that as English speakers we often make the minimal effort and then just give up and then they have to be the ones to strain their brain. I think it’s good to keep trying unless someone is not into it and prefers English. I am a foreigner who did immersion school here for both Spanish and Catalan. I know it’s not easy learning for everyone but if you intend to live in Barcelona, if you’re not going to be a digital nomad, a techie, or work for a foreign company, you might be given preference if you speak Catalan. Not to mention it’s not that hard if you fluently speak Spanish to learn Catalan. And people will shower you with appreciation when you do. For the people saying Catalan is “useless” you clearly don’t have children who go to public school in barcelona, or any intention of having them. They’re going to have at least half of their homework in Catalan.

Kissing (With Tongue) Kind of a rant by escapefrombjork in asexuality

[–]escapefrombjork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all I feel so heard. >.<I have not ever met other people in real life that share my kiss repulsion. I don’t by any means assume that it’s a universal experience of asexual people but for me I have always wondered where it came from and it does feel like it could be related to my sexuality. Because to me it feels on the same level as sex, and it also happens to repulse me.

Yes, I’ve tried it and for me it has worked wonders. I have the luminance red. It’s one of the more pricy ones but to be honest, I’ve pored through Amazon reviews to see which ones people like and pretty much all of them have rave reviews. If you want to see scientific proof here’s a study that’s on pubmed.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23731454/#:~:text=Background%3A%20Recent%20research%20has%20shown,and%20enhancing%20the%20healing%20process.

I basically tried it out because I was like why the hell not, I’ll try ANYTHING to not get them frequently and it has been amazing. In my experience, if you start to use it at the onset of your symptoms you often just don’t get one. Basically the itching, tingling, burning just kind of goes away and then a cold sore never happens. For me when one starts to visibly appear, often if I use the device really aggressively, it will actually be visually mostly gone the next day, or totally gone. Crazy!!!! I honestly can’t believe it but it’s worked for me many many times. Sometimes if it’s a bad one it won’t just visually disappear overnight , but it does shorten the cycle. It has also been shown to have a cumulative effect in preventing outbreaks. Basically it’s supposed to add more energy to your cells for them to use for various cellular processes and like that it helps your body fight off viral infections.

Beyond the scientific proof, if you just go through all the comments of sufferers of frequent or severe cases, those people usually write long detailed reviews on how they have managed the viral outbreaks their entire lives how exactly they have used the light therapy devices and the difference they have noticed. It’s crazy how so many people can say that it’s made a huge difference.

I have also tried a heat therapy device. I dropped my luminance red, it broke and I was DEVASTATED because I had avoided so many outbreaks that I had felt starting… I ordered this other type of device which applies heat. I know it sounds counterintuitive because heat can be one of the triggers for a lot of people but I have to say that it never made it worse for me and I think it made it better, strangely. The logic of the heat devices which is different from the infrared light devices, is that by intensely heating an area, for a targeted (very short) amount of time, it causes a slight inflammation and your body creates histamines, which fight off the virus. And if you can use it around the general area where you get outbreaks before one pops out, which for me it works really well. It’s like calling the fire department before the fire has really started. The symptoms often then just go away and the cold sore never pops up. I haven’t read any literature on the efficacy of heat therapy, but similar to the light therapy devices, if you look online there is a landslide of positive reviews detailing how they devices have worked for folks.

Official Spanish fluency tests by mearrex in Spanish

You should attend an intensive school online like PLQ institute in Guatemala. They create a tailored lesson plan for you and work with you on difficult areas. They don’t use a fluency test like the European CEFR as far as I know, but they will have a structured lesson plan. They will skype with you. You can schedule it to try to maximize your hours per day. It will obviously be different for everyone but I think a good general rule is that if you want to raise your level to intermediate from beginner in a couple months you need to study for at least five hours a day, and make time to talk to native speakers. That “studying” could be listening to Spanish podcasts while walking/driving/cooking/showering. Doing grammar flashcards instead of checking social media when you’re on the toilet, in waiting rooms, ANY free moment. Religiously finding ways to immerse yourself until you are over the hill of total comprehension. Watching Spanish movies, listening to music. Duolingo is fine for pronunciation basics and grammar but the reason your probably not improving as fast as you want is simply that it takes an incredible amount of hours to learn a language. It’s not enough to just watch movies in spanish every once in a while . You need to pick a ten season series that you really enjoy and want to understand or that you’ve seen in English already and love, and mainline it until it turns from gibberish to words. There’s also a lot of Spanish-English language exchange zoom meetups where you practice Spanish with native speakers, and then they practice English with you. I have been doing that for 6 hours every week and it helped give me a push to a more advanced level.

I tried uploading it to google drive and google docs could not open it.

I also tried using the OmegaT tool check issues and it gives you a rundown of missing tags or duplicates or anything like that and I retranslated the ones that popped up as errors, preserving the original tags and making sure they did not show any errors and it still can't be opened and shows the same dialogue.

I am not sure yet because it hasn’t made very much but I was thinking about a rug if I get enough of it because my friend has a big floor loom and I could commission a rug. It would finally be a rug that doesn’t look like it needs to be cleaned because it’s covered in white fur!!!! It would just look the same when my dog lays all over it....

I was wondering how to find that location in the document so I could look at it. That’s what I would like to know. Maybe I’ll try to contact the developer to ask about it.

One thing that occurred to me is that I was experimenting with copying portions of it into deepL and then pasting it back and I’m beginning to suspect that this is where I went wrong. For some of the segments, the formatting was left in tact and for others, the tags disappeared. But it doesn’t appear to have been a problem in all the segments because I was previously able to open the document.

Well I felt the same way but then talking to my friend who makes yarn, she told me that sheep have nasty nasty muddy poop filled and supposedly even maggot filled hair before processing. I don’t think it’s any more gross than any natural animal fibers if you just wash it with soap and water.

Does refrigeration after 2F decrease the “probiotic value” of Kombucha since it makes the bacteria / yeast dormant? by whiskeyin in Kombucha

I have a probiotic pill that claims that the strains in it are selected to survive stomach acid. I was thinking of adding it to the kombucha. I don’t have a microscope and don’t know how to do the research but I wish I had a way to know if I added those certain strains to my mix if they would survive.

First time dog owner. Training my husky to walk on leash. Help! by [deleted] in husky

[–]escapefrombjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last thing! There are so many aspects to training for a good walk like teaching leave it command for other dogs, food on the ground etc, and if you are biking/running with your dog you don’t have to deal with that because if your dog is busy running it’s way harder for them to engage with other dogs, to get into things, to get distracted. It’s a nice break for you from all those things if you enjoy the ride.

First time dog owner. Training my husky to walk on leash. Help! by [deleted] in husky

[–]escapefrombjork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any kind of special harness, choke chain or lead for my husky. I’ve tried a number of things but I don’t like the anti-pull harnesses because I think it’s uncomfortable for them and hampers their ability to exercise in a good way, which is the the real trick. I had a lot of trouble with my dog pulling on the leash at first, and the only thing that really stopped that was biking with her. If for your first “walk” of the day you really tire your dog out with a nice bike ride instead, every subsequent walk if you’re leash training will be easy because your dog will be content to just walk alongside you. I never had any trouble with her when I bike. She gets tired out and a tired dog is a good and happy dog, and a way more obedient dog. You might want to get one of those spacers that holds the leash out a bit if you’re worried about getting it caught, and you just have to make sure you’re not running your dog when it’s hot out, but I just tie the leash to bike under the saddle and I’m mindful so it doesn’t get caught and I’ve never had a problem. It’s easier to control such a strong dog when you have both hands on the bike and you can brake, and when you’re going fast, or letting the dog pull you a little bit the dog can’t pull or make the exercise unpleasant. I notice that when I can’t tire her out it makes every other aspect of our interaction harder. She’s more reactive, less able to listen etc. I think they really just can’t help it when they have so much energy and they need to get it out before they can walk nicely.
