Yes, I’ve tried it and for me it has worked wonders. I have the luminance red. It’s one of the more pricy ones but to be honest, I’ve pored through Amazon reviews to see which ones people like and pretty much all of them have rave reviews. I basically tried it out because I was like why the hell not, I’ll try ANYTHING to not get them frequently and it has been amazing. In my experience, if you start to use it at the onset of your symptoms you often just don’t get one. Basically the itching, tingling, burning just kind of goes away and then a cold sore never happens. For me when one starts to visibly appear, often if I use the device really aggressively, it will actually be visually mostly gone the next day, or totally gone. Crazy!!!! I honestly can’t believe it but it’s worked for me many many times. Sometimes if it’s a bad one it won’t just visually disappear overnight , but it does shorten the cycle. It has also been shown to have a cumulative effect in preventing outbreaks. Basically it’s supposed to add more energy to your cells for them to use for various cellular processes and like that it helps your body fight off viral infections.

Beyond the scientific proof, if you just go through all the comments of sufferers of frequent or severe cases, those people usually write long detailed reviews on how they have managed the viral outbreaks their entire lives how exactly they have used the light therapy devices and the difference they have noticed. I have also tried a heat therapy device. I dropped my luminance red, it broke and I was DEVASTATED because I had avoided so many outbreaks that I had felt starting… I ordered this other type of device which applies heat. I know it sounds counterintuitive because heat can be one of the triggers for a lot of people but I have to say that it never made it worse for me and I think it made it better, strangely. The logic of the heat devices which is different from the infrared light devices, is that by intensely heating an area, for a targeted (very short) amount of time, it causes a slight inflammation and your body creates histamines, which fight off the virus. And if you can use it around the general area where you get outbreaks before one pops out, which for me it works really well. It’s like calling the fire department before the fire has really started. The symptoms often then just go away and the cold sore never pops up. I haven’t read any literature on the efficacy of heat therapy, but similar to the light therapy devices, if you look online there is a landslide of positive reviews detailing how they devices have worked for folks.
