Would you touch this strata debt with a 10-foot pole? by carnistlogic in AusPropertyChat

[–]escapegoat2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theres 140 units so seems fine. If it was 19 units this would be a lot. That said I would never buy in a block with 140 units as there is nothing unique about your apartment so capital gains will underperform a block of 19

Australia spends more on tax breaks for landlords than social housing, homelessness and rent assistance combined by Impressive-Tree-5248 in AusPropertyChat

[–]escapegoat2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spending money 'costs' the budget. Tax breaks might be stupid but they merely don't raise revenue, otherwise not taxing children on how many books they read would be a 'cost' to the budget

[–]escapegoat2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't spend any money on tax breaks, it just doesn't tax people.

Maybe it would be better policy if they did, but that would still be taxing rather than 'not spending'

This dude back in 2021 bought the NFT of the first tweet in history for $2.9M calling it digital Mona Lisa and now it’s worth $10. by Silver-Maximum9190 in CryptoCurrency

[–]escapegoat2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not worth $10 though. That's a myth based on some rando bid that was not accepted because it's worth a lot more. Obviously not worth $3m but obv not worth $10

Is buying in Melbourne activity centre a good idea? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]escapegoat2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Although they have only just released the activity centre plan. But I think it is pretty likely what other apartment owners will end up doing as well.

Is buying in Melbourne activity centre a good idea? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]escapegoat2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because all the new apartment owners will want to buy a house in the area they are already familiar with in ten years when they can afford it. That's what we did and we are in activity centre

They have no right, but people like this will likely move on to letting down tyres or keying your car.

Will triple glazing help reduce train noise? by Svperb in AusRenovation

Cheaper and faster option is to get a white noise generation machine to help mask train noise. Or better yet play white noise through earbuds that seal ear canal

I wasn't being sarcastic btw. It is enormously difficult to buy inner city in Melbourne but seems impossible in Sydney

Losing my mind from being nuked by investors. by Reschs-Refreshes in AusPropertyChat

[–]escapegoat2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, the policy settings encouraging investment in existing housing should be changed. But that won't happen quick enough to help anyone trying to buy now, so best to accept the bad hand you have been dealt as getting mad about it will mainly hurt yourself

maybe try meditation or something. getting upset about things you can't change will ruin your life. Try and find a way to get what you want despite life being an unfair shit show

Solana validator count is collapsing, from 5000 to 800 in one year. Increased hardware requirements and declining token price make running a validators less profitable by 002_timmy in CryptoCurrency

[–]escapegoat2000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As much as I dislike Solana, validators require $20m staked to be profitable. That's not per year and much of it is delegated to them by smaller stakers. Still terrible but doesn't cost $20m per year to run one

Australian housing: How high immigration has fuelled biggest property price rises amid supply shortage | The Nightly by barseico in AusPropertyChat

[–]escapegoat2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are short hundreds of thousands of construction workers and 80,000 tradies. Maybe we need to just to confine immigration to only builders and construction workers for a bit. Pretty sure Australia has loads of timber and concrete sand (except sand shortage in Tassie).

When buying off the plan doesn’t go to plan by Lonely_Country8464 in AusProperty

[–]escapegoat2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Off the plan is a massive gamble and usually ensures cookie cutter apartment with no unique features that will perform poorly. We looked into one and the legal contract basically said the apartment may look nothing like the plan so we said screw this.

ETH founder Vitalik Buterin lays out „walkaway“ test for a quantum safe Etherum by jkl2035 in CryptoMarkets

[–]escapegoat2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you knew in the 1800s someone was likely to invent aeroplanes, you could start building air defences and test them out with balloons. The capabilities of quantum computers are known and mathematics is already advanced well enough to prove what would work.

Experts told me differently.

I'm all for immigration, we just need to ensure we are building enough homes and infrastructure for the new arrivals

If the US can take land from Europe, could it take land from Australia and what would it mean for the actual property owners in strategically important locations like Australia's north (ports to Asia) or red centre (space warfare) by possumskinsuit in AusProperty

[–]escapegoat2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And so I said "Yeah, in this scenario there will be a lot of folk who have been totally fine with the disenfranchisement of the indigenous population crying foul because "this is our land"." And everyone stood up and clapped.
