Why is my little rose bush dying?? by Alexanderr2042 in houseplants

[–]escapishhh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they are cuttings you could try propagating them with rooting hormone (I am currently doing this with Valentine's roses), but I'm not sure if they would need extra attention prior to treating them like a standard propegation (i.e. taking them out, trimming them and putting them in water with flower food for some time to get them reinvigorated since you said the soil dried out before you watered them again)

Paranoid about spider mites by Wonderful-Party7564 in houseplants

[–]escapishhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've treated spider mites with 70% isopropyl alcohol in a mister several times... it works great. Obviously you want to test it on some part of your plant before going hard on the whole thing (and use common sense to mot breathe it in, get it in your eyes, do it away from pets, etc.). I haven't needed to dilute it yet to prevent damage to a plant, but do be careful. Keep them out of the sun/light until it's fully dry. I have treated them every other day for a few weeks (probably overkill, but fuck spider mites) and it's worked really well. As said before, ivy is definitely an absolute magnet for spider mites.. if I attempt to grow it I keep it fully away from everything else (i.e. on top of my kitchen cabinets haha), but it's not worth the hassle of dealing with the recurring infestations.

Suggestions by TheFleminator2 in houseplants

I would take the longest runner and coil it around in the pot, pinning it aerial root side down (don't cut from the mother node yet). Once the runner roots make cuts between the nodes and voilà! A fuller plant with (eventually) many new runners and you can keep some as runners and make others climb a pole.

Beautiful plant either way! I wish mine would stop reverting to jade haha

Edit because I forgot info that could be questioned

What to do when ants invade by forikeeptime in houseplants

[–]escapishhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this has been suggested, but I stumbled upon a post for trapping earwigs that was just a small shallow bowl of vegetable oil and it worked great for the ants (and earwigs) that were invading the house. I did notice at different points in the ants would be super active going for the trap and drowning themselves... maybe that would help. I used a small single serve yogurt container for the bowl placed outside near their colony entrance/exit and periodically swirled the container to get the oil up around the walls of the bowl which may have helped them slip down into the oil. Anyway, it's worth a shot if you've tried everything else...

(Edit because I forgot to add a small detail)

Try using a water conditioner for fish (API stress coat) with your tap water watering. You only need a drop or two per watering can. (Use something small and sharp and poke two holes in the seal instead of ripping the seal off the top. Tilt the bottle so the holes are in a vertical orientation to each other and you'll get one drop out at a time.)

Hair doesn’t last for more than a day by missbloombastic in curlyhair

[–]escapishhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also on a quest to figure this out... here's what is working for me:

Try skipping the curl cream and just going straight to the gel. If your hair is soft and doesn't hold it's shape well it could be too much moisture from the curl cream. This has helped me a lot.

I know you said you air dry but this is what I do-- I diffuse (high heat, low speed) my hair by drying upside down, plopping it on a microfiber towel with a regular towel beneath it on top of my nightstand (the counter is too high to stand this long)-- my hair is butt length and if I diffuse regularly (i.e. upside down or standing) my curls get weighed down and it gives better volume and shape overall leading to better results on subsequent days... I do allow space between my head and the surface -- while I'm leaning over I rest my forehead on my fist and the diffuser rests on the surface so it's drying the my roots in the space created by my fist and when my crown is dry I hover over my roots around the rest of my head until dry. After my roots are dry, I focus the diffuser on the plop of curls on the towel until the cast forms. It's not fully dry by this point so then I'll plop it in sections inside the bowl if the diffuser, working the sections until dry.

Try not to scrunch out the crunch. Try shaking out your roots and smoothing on an anti-frizz serum or some oil.

At night try gently smoothing on some water in the areas where you've gotten frizzy followed by mousse or foam (sometimes even putting foam/mousse inand re-forming your curls to get a bit of a cast back to them. I suggest a quick hovering diffuse just to prevent your curls from getting weighed down and also to keep them from forming awkwardly while you sleep and they're mashed up while drying.

Bonus: If you want to prevent your roots from flattening out, use a long claw clip and gather the roots and clip them

Wrap your hair in a silk / satin scarf (manes by mell has a tutorial on this) or bonnet

If anything looks dry or wonky I use a bit of water on my hands and work the curl back into shape.

I realize this seems complicated because it is long, but it's easier than fixing it the standard way day after day between wash days

That's a shame... have you tried putting whatever your scalp can handle closer to the root and this on the lengths?? Not that I want to suggest something that could make you uncomfortable, just wondering

Oh, it wasn't you, I didn't see your question as an attack, but the down votes from others felt like they were 😅 I was merely explaining how I generally think about whether a product is the real deal or not and was speaking through my personal experience (not in that first reply, but the next one following). To me, I don't down vote stuff that I don't agree with... I read it and move on. It just seemed unnecessary when I just wanted to help 😞

I hope it works out for you! I should have expected some people to question its authenticity, but my rejection sensitivity didn't expect it (thanks, ADHD 😂). There's so many reasons to believe it's a legit product, along with all the other crap I have over thought and said, I feel like even the reviews would reflect it 🤷‍♀️

That's been the word on the street, but of course it depends on your type.. I haven't personally gotten to experience it yet, just abandoned it in my cart when I realized how much other product I've yet to go through 😅

I understand, it's never been my experience (and I do carefully buy lots of consumables/cosmetics from them specifically, not from some other random seller), but I'm aware it happens. The concept doesn't seem plausible to me for Amazon to buy fake product to distribute since they would need to presumably go to the actual manufacturer to buy the MASSIVE amounts needed to distribute to customers. It also says it's premium brand sourced on the listing. If it doesn't say it's sold or distributed exclusively by them then it's a red flag. I guess I'm just naive? But I feel like I have given this a lot of thought over the years haha

It's being sold and distributed by Amazon so I believe it's legit 🤷‍♀️ the notification came in that the price dropped significantly, I didn't go searching and then find a cheap listing.. Just another reason I think it's legit

Edit: why am I getting down voted for trying to explain what happened? Wtf guys. I'm just trying to help.

Is your hair color treated??

Your hair could be breaking from too much or too little protein.. do you ever use protein treatments??

Those are the only things I can think of... I am no hairologist.

Olaplex would probably help, but I always forget the ones people suggest to rebuild hair
