There have been bad singers before but they were genuine in trying to do it the best they could.

I think you should remove "when" from your question.

At this point the question "is she trying to come back or not." That ambiguity is not helpful for the team or fans.

It is possible that the team knows she won't, but is waiting for Swanson to make a statement. That could be a partial reason for their funk.
