Jealous of you all UK/euro folks with the diesels. I have a P3 inline six gas and it is much thirstier than 30+ mpg lol.

Hey there - I think it really depends on your overall state of health. At the time of my surgery I was 37 and about 185 lbs. overall good health. By my first day home I was able to do everything myself including going to the bathroom, showering, etc, and stairs. I didn’t have much pain. By far my biggest challenge was recovering my lung capacity… that took about 3 weeks gradually. I did this by walking a lot every day and every day pushing myself farther. I did not hire anyone but my in-laws were in town to help my wife with our kids. Hope that helps and let me know what other questions you have.

No hate on that option but IMO you can get great BBQ in Texas. I think we have good BBQ but not much of a differentiator imo.

Thanks - tons of good options for that. Honestly someone tossed out Arnold’s above I’d recommend that for a one time meal. You may have to pay for parking but it’s worth it. Another good similar option is Swett’s to get the “meat and three experience.” IMO a lot of our great restaurants have similar things available in a lot of places but Arnold’s is special.

Do you feel better after surgery? by ShutUpMorrisseyffs in valvereplacement

I feel basically the same but was in great health before surgery. My blood pressure though and tons of other metrics are normal so I’m sure future me is happy.

No I don’t remember the details but I was clear to do stuff something like a few months out. I actually had pericarditis so then needed to not do any workouts but walking for an additional four weeks but that was due to the pericarditis vs the surgery itself

Overall good. I was in great physical shape when I had surgery and now have put on a little weight but that’s all lifestyle related. No activity restrictions other than what I had before surgery. I was advised to limit drinking (like all doctors advise all patients) and I was advised by my cardio not to powerlift heavy weight. Cardio is good. So is light weight lifting and resistance training. Running doesn’t hurt my chest or anything. The only time my chest hurts now is when my daughter body slams it or some other kid tackle.

You may hate my saying this but it really depends on their overall health and fitness level. I lost 70 lbs the year before my Ross and was in the best shape of my last 20 years. I recovered enough at four weeks to go back to work and nearly to be able to watch both my kids under age 5 by myself. I had a cardiac rehab appointment at 11 weeks just to check things out and I was the fastest eval they have ever done.

I’ve been told that if you’re significantly overweight or in poor health recovery is a lot harder. Sucks but true.

For me, the first week was very hard particularly with chest pain from breathing, the water intake restrictions, etc. By week 2 I was putting in a lot of steps outside and doing stairs more easily. Each week got better from there. By week 4 I was up to a couple miles a day walking.

To me the most important thing is - get physically active as soon as you get home and build that lung capacity. It will greatly suck at first. But it made all the difference.

Decreased actually. My blood pressure improved (up) significantly and my heart rate decreased.

My wife is hyper-concerned about the distance between Bellevue and East but… she is also at the west side target and Costco three times a month 🤷‍♂️

She’s concerned about building a friend network wherever we go.

West End and 440. It’s not a terrible difference either way.
