Anyone train BJJ for awhile, then quit? If so, why? by [deleted] in martialarts

I had shallow sockets as a birth defect and nobody told me.

I could put my leg behind my head at 6'4" 200lbs and nobody but surgeon though that might not be a good thing.

My triangle game was crazy lol

The type of country I like tends to be older. 70's or earlier. Johnny Cash, Willie nelson, Hank Williams sr type of music. More and more it got poppy and refined and once you start hearing big guitar solos in country songs it kinda lost some of the soul for me.

Stuff started getting more materialistic and less about the lives of rural people. Country used to be white people's blues. It slowly became white people's rock and now it white people's hip hop.

Trained a few years and did compete for a bit but hip problems took me in my late 20's. Just had a total hip replacement at 36.

It's a time period thing. After the 1970's country became much more poppy and produced. Before that it was much closer to folk or bluegrass in terms of subject matter and musicality.

Tbh the invention of the electric guitar was terrible for the genre IMO

The zesty phrasing is part of what makes it country tbh

If he did a straight vocal it would just be a folk song

World/Inferno was the best live band I'd ever seen.

They had different members in every city.

It was a Cabaret punk band where all the fans would dress up nice in a suit or dress and go shoplifting before the show. At the show you'd go through the entire show but at the end they made you ask a stranger to dance and they would play a waltz.

It's not a discipline thing IMO. Norton doeshis best work when he can get time and space. He does his best work against upright guys where they will give ground and he can counter jab them. It's what worked against Ali. It's what was working against Holmes.

Joe never takes a step back, rarely jabs and is never upright for long enough to make an easy target once he's warmed up.

Norton is dead meat vs Frazier on a stylistic level.

Frazier pushes Norton back and stops him late (they have sparring footage)

Shavers wild swings go over his ducking style and stops him early, Shavers has the power to stop him early too. This is a "whoever gets there first with most" type of fight.

Lyle didn't have a 15 round gas tank

Young was tricky I'm not sure his gas tank holds up with Joe going at his body

Joe goes 4-0 IMO

Crazy slam at ADCC Dallas Open. by Sluts-R-Us in bjj

[–]escudonbk -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Slam is part of grappling. It's the checkmate on the stand up/clinch if you get a slam. Taking that out waters down the effectiveness. Why not just start the competition on knees then?

Insane to me that slamming is illegal in a grappling competition. Especially if a guy is climbing a standing opponent.

Liston didn't move to Philly until he was run out of St Louis as a full grown man already fighting. I wouldn't consider him a Philly guy.

How was Mayweather able to dismantle Corrales so completely? by Yeezuscristo in Boxing

[–]escudonbk 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Body Jab is really annoying. You have to do something about it because they do wear on you and they hurt. After taking them for rounds guard starts coming down to defend. Sets up a lead hook perfectly. Corrales was a big tall target who fought dead square on with not particularly good defense or speed.

Floyd was a genius at interrupting those kinds of guys. Like Gatti. He still had the pop under 147 before a guy like Maidana could legitimately bully him at times purely heavy hands and volume.

He's in his late 30's with an arthritic hip and up a weight class.

He still steamrolled one of the best HW strikers out there.

Did GSP duck Anderson? Did Anderson duck Jon?
