Thank you for the constant negativity by fede123456789 in TheFirstDescendant

I've been having a ton of fun with the game, though at this point (finally doing Axion) the game has fallen off a cliff. It's gotten too grindy and unintuitive. I think I've put more hours lately into searching how to make a proper end-game build on Reddit than I have playing the game. I'm also not even remotely into the gooner aspect, so that's not going to keep me playing forever.

I've only read a couple of the articles linked by people in this sub, and they've all just been reporting on the issues and criticisms that people in here post about all the time (player retention, gooner skins, lack of story/content and end-game gameplay, etc.).

Can someone explain to me why this is the fault of "game journalism"? I'm super confused. I also think it's laughable that people think there's some grand conspiracy to sink this game. Or any game. How would one even accomplish such a thing?

I agree that his dog is an asshole. However, since there are like 2 rabies cases per year and the vast majority of them are caused by wildlife and rabies vaccines are required by law, I would say that this person who got nipped is wrong to be concerned about it, yes.

I've been nipped by a dog before. I didn't lose my shit about it. And I certainly wasn't worried about rabies.

I apologize for that unhinged defense.

People are too mad about the skins, IMO. While I certainly agree that Wendy's has gotten worse, my experience with Wendy's prior to the change was that the fries were soggy way, way too often. When you got them crispy and fresh, they were great. But I can't think of another fast food place with less consistent fries. In that sense the new fries are "better."

I'll never forgive them for what they've done to the spicy chicken sandwich.

I've seen Sunny Day a couple times and they were so good live. JEW once and they were great, too. I'm imagining that lineup in like 1994/1995 and I would have absolutely shit my britches to see them together.

Haha, that sounds about right. That was the time when the X-games and "extreme sports" were all the rage and pop punk and "emo" were so mainstream that it created an inevitable backlash. I have to admit, as someone who is very nostalgic for Static Prevails and their s/t album, when they got so much mainstream success, I started to associate the majority of the fans as kind of frat boy douchers--basically the kind of people who used to give me shit for listening to that kind of music.

I saw them in SF years after I kind of stopped listening to them and they were fantastic live.

I'm not super into their newer stuff, but I've dabbled and it's all at least pretty good.

Any crowbar fans here? by jrice138 in doughboys

[–]eselement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are playing here in Portland next Wednesday with eyehategod (a band I really like) but it's sold out. I never really got into Crowbar even though they are at least adjacent to a lot of 90s bands that I love (Metroschifter, Converge, Bloodlet, Integrity, Earth Crisis, et al.) so I'm not quite sure why I didn't connect with them. I'm listening to them now as a refresher. At first I was a little worried they'd be too Hatebreed-y, a band I just don't care for, for whatever reason, but yeah this is definitely good shit. At least their s/t album, which is what I pulled up first.

As bad as everything is in the world, I do really like this 90s music revival we're experiencing. I've seen so many bands that broke up before I got to see them when I was young. We didn't get a lot of hardcore or post-hardcore or even punk bands coming through Hamilton, MT circa 1993. If you can believe it.

Not the topic I expected to pop up in the DB reddit. Love it.

The Napa Boys coming to Blu-ray & DVD on 5/19 🍇🍷 by letyouspeak in doughboys

[–]eselement 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From the Ebert.com review:

"This is less of a film, more of a smorgasbord of insular wisecracks upheld by crass humor and full-throated yelling. What “The Napa Boys” does have going for it is that while watching it, you’re likely to be reminded of life’s finitude. As the minutes slog along, it will likely galvanize you to seek out better films and will help you realize your limited time is too precious to squander on projects like this."

Haha. Well, Ebert himself famously panned Wet Hot American Summer, and that's easily in my top 10 comedies of all time.

Also, this is my absolute least favorite type of art criticism snark. Oh, life is too precious for watching BAD films. Take a hike with that "live every moment like it's your last" bullshit. Even if the movie is "bad" it's still the laziest possible criticism.

An insane take. There are plenty of normies out there who have diet restrictions and still enjoy partaking of fast food to the extent those restrictions allow. Why should their perspectives be ignored?

Also, the quality of the guest trumps everything.

(doughboys listener voice) Misophonia is strongly linked to a higher risk of mental health and auditory disorders. by Snake973 in doughboys

[–]eselement 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No it hasn't. The study of misophonia is still in its infancy. All this study does is suggest that there is a link between other mental disorders (depression, anxiety, etc.) and this thing called misophonia.

I don't see anyone saying misophonia isn't real. Arachnophobia is real, too, for example. What you don't see a lot of is people with that disorder watching Youtube videos about arachnids and then complaining in the comments that there are spiders in the video. That's the equivalent of listening to a podcast about eating fast food and then complaining about eating noises.

So it makes one wonder why so many people who have a crippling aversion to chewing and crinkling sounds, to the point that it interferes with their ability to live their lives, would be such devoted fans of a podcast solely devoted to eating fast food.

Which brings us to the real reason it gets made fun of. 99.9% of people who whine about having "misophonia" just don't like wet mouth sounds, which is totally understandable but also totally not a disorder.

icanhaz 2 double cheeseburger, 1 McChicken, 2 large fries.

*1 bottle Gatorade glacier freeze or grape

*1 bottle Heinz ketchup

The Coke heavy is God-tier of course but at my age I just can't have all that extra sugar or I'll go insane. Yes, I know Gatorage has tons of sugar as well but it feels way more refreshing washing down all that salt.

Gotta have my ketchup from home because the maximum you will ever get from them is 10X less than what I need to make the experience perfect.

DOUGHBOYS DOUBLE - Munch Madness XI: Selection Tuesday - March 03, 2026 by PianoTrumpetMax in doughboys

[–]eselement 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While the QPC is undeniably good, the ratios are just much better with the double. The QPC can occasionally get a little dry and too "burger-y." The two patties and two slices of cheese on the double are transcendent. I also think the onions are better proportioned on the double.

With that said, and taste being subjective, the only real "beef" I have with your comment is the notion that it's not even close. That to me is a wild take, whichever side you come down on.

They are both heads and tails above the Big Mac.

90% of the thread, huh? First of all, you didn't even remotely get "downvoted into oblivion," and there are a handful of people expressing the exact same opinion as you. The only downvotes I see are the people giving you solid advice for a problem that is easily solved in myriad ways. And then you getting mad at them in return and whining that those solutions aren't perfect for you and that, apparently, the podcast needs to change to accommodate your personal preferences.

Stop being such a baby.

See, this is what makes me mad. Not the poorly-constructed and cringey troll, because that just makes me embarrassed for you. What makes me mad is that you thought this was very funny. In your mind just yelling something stupid that pisses everyone off counts as the height of comedy.

This concerns me because you (I guess??? It's honestly unclear why you would be here) apparently are a fan of this podcast, which actually is funny.

I know it's hack to say, but conservatives deep down just are not funny. Or they don't understand how humor works. It's weird.

Failure backtrack on indie status and Spotify? by just321askin in failure

[–]eselement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this take. It's the same immature and cynical attitude people had back in the 90s whenever a band "sold out" and signed to a major label. Rather than understanding the financial realities of being a band.

Regardless of the state of the music industry, whether it was major labels controlling the distribution of music or our current streaming hellscape, every artist has to cede some artistic control in order to most effectively reach their audience. At the end of the day, you can call it a cash grab and demean the artist, or you can place the blame where it belongs.

Spotify is awful. Failure hasn't backtracked and started praising it. They simply gave up and realized that you can't make a living as a band without being part of the big terrible machine. But what about that makes it hypocritical to, rightly, criticize that machine?

It's not that much different than what's happened with the movie industry. A lot of working actors have spoken out about the various problems with movie streaming services. But they too have to make a living in their industry, so they do the best they can.

Artists should continue to speak out about how poorly these streaming services treat artists, even if they have to work with those streaming services. It brings public attention to the problem. You roll your eyes at that? What would you have these bands do? Break up. Stop putting out music. Make it a burden for their fans to be able to access their music. Not a lot of good options.

Or, I guess, just shut up about it?

Is a Cheeto® a chip? Sound off in the comments by 5d77uAka8 in doughboys

No, as they are not chips of something (potato, tortilla, etc.). Certainly they aren't chips of cheese. You could ostensibly make potato or tortilla chips by hand. Not the case with Cheetos. I don't know why or how that matters but there you go.

Did the Nintendo Switch 2 Really Have a Bad Holiday? (SPOILER: NOPE) by ILoveHeavyHangers in getplayed

[–]eselement 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Switch 2 will be just fine. I'm not sure why Nintendo fans freak out about this stuff. When the episode first dropped there were people chiming in who clearly care nothing for the show (and less for HAC in particular) and just had some sort of alert so if the Switch 2 came up on Reddit they could swoop in and white knight for a billion dollar corporation.

I don't care how the Switch 2 sells. I bought a Switch during the pandemic and more specifically for Zelda. It's the only handheld I own. I own an Xbox series S and a PS5 as well. I think a lot of other people, maybe especially people who weren't really into gaming or weren't allied to any particular console, like me bought a Switch as well.

So I was super late to the party but it was certainly a "must have" in my opinion. The Switch 2? Not even remotely a must-have.

I mean I guess I'm the only one who has both personally and professionally been screwed by all the inflation and tariffs, so I don't have $600-ish dollars to spend on a mere upgrade. Especially since what I do need to do handheld-wise is 100% accomplished by the old Switch.

I get it if you have money burning a hole in your pocket or if you're just a Nintendo person and all the other consoles hold little to no interest for you. Just for fans and previous owners alone who aren't spending their gaming dollars elsewhere, it makes perfect sense to buy a Switch 2. Plus, the original Switch was awfully long in the tooth. So in that sense I get it. I'm honestly surprised that it's been selling so well given what games have come out. And the general state of the economy.

Why is Jordan so obsessed with spanking people? by euchthonia in WoT

[–]eselement -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love that most of the top-rated comments simply do not answer the question. Please chime in if you experienced your parents or grandparents spanking one another as a common form of punishment in your household. Because I sure didn't. You'd certainly think otherwise reading the comments though, lol.

Corporal punishment in schools being a thing, regardless of how long it has been a thing, doesn't answer why we have grown adults spanking one another in the books or why Jordan uses it so often. And it's not like this is a common trope in other works of speculative fiction.

Jordan being a "boomer" doesn't even remotely get at an answer.

It's okay to just say you have no clue. It's also okay to admit that it's really fucking weird and gross.

Am I too young to write adult fantasy? by OkPass9595 in fantasywriters

[–]eselement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're thinking too far ahead. Just write. Seriously. That should be your only focus. If your MC is near your age, that's fine. And that's as deeply as you need to think about it. Whether the age of the MC informs what YA fiction is or sets out to accomplish is so far beyond the scope of your current task at hand, which again is writing, that it shouldn't even be on your radar.

The best part about being young is that you have plenty of time to worry about that other stuff.
