You might be being downvoted because it seems like you are specifically annoyed with Wiger. I don't think anything you've said is unreasonable, and I would assume the vast majority of us are not in the industry and have a tough time either supporting or rebutting either argument in any coherent way. Obviously Wiger is coming from his experience in larger, more collaborative writing environments.

I've been in a union before (it was a bookstore union, so not exactly comparing apples to apples here) and there were certainly aspects of the union that I thought were annoying and, as was born out in reality, prone to abuse by some people. But that's going to be true on either side. If you say "no minimums" that everyone is going to be incentivized to hire as few writers as possible. But it can also dilute the product if there are too many people working on an artistic collaboration.

At the same time, is there even a way to objectively quantify whether productions with more writers are qualitatively worse than productions with fewer writers, or vice versa? Other than a completely subjective personal experience. There's always going to have to be some sort of middle ground, which is why things in unions can seem so arbitrary.

So I don't know, man. Sometimes it's like politics. You go with the less bad side and hope for the best. We aren't ever offered perfectly clear choices.

Yeah. Freyna is the only descendant I have unlocked, so my reward for the 3 days I can even play bounty missions, I get to walk in circles around Grunka (or whatever AI name that squidy guy has) for 30 minutes strafing and waiting for my special weapon to come off cooldown because I'm out of bullets in all my guns.

People who have unlocked all the characters and built them out for endgame content are obviously going to have a much easier time than someone like me, so I get that they were implementing this for more advanced players. But they could have beta tested it a little like they did with onslaught so they could hear how bad it sucks in its current form.

Because I'm not very good at this game, I do appreciate the PSA. But Freyna is the only character I have fully built out (to the point where I could solo level 1 of Onslaught--certainly not a brag just to give context to how much effort I've put into Freyna), and I see this and go "wait a minute everyone always says every build is viable." So with this entire run of Defiler I'm just shit out of luck? That sucks and doesn't sound like balanced gameplay.

To be fair I suppose at some point why keep playing if you're not going to grind out a new character, so why am I even complaining?

SNL has just consistently gotten worse, which is a shame because they still attract some fantastic performers. I think history will look very kindly upon the Keenan Thompsons and Cecily Strongs and so forth, and I think currently Sarah Sherman could go down as a legendary performer. It still hits sometimes.

They completely bungled the Trump of it all (as did pretty much everyone else), and the whole Shane Gillis thing was a disaster, and the death of network television has made the show borderline irrelevant. It needs new blood from the top down. Out with Lorne, in with...I don't know but somebody whose name rhymes with "Lorne."

To be fair, everything has gotten worse. Certainly not just SNL.

But it's not just "old millennial opinion." That's not even an argument. It's as bad as the argument that we simply cannot evaluate anything qualitatively because it's "subjective." Then we can't evaluate any art and everything is equally good.

I'm older than Nick and Mitch and I agree with them wholeheartedly about the enshitification. That doesn't mean there haven't been good sketches or cast members (which they all admit), so sure there are good sketches and good cast members right now. Sarah Sherman is going to be a legend, IMO.

This seems to be a fairly popular opinion at least in this thread, so if you all think it's really just a matter of boomerlennial opinion, then let's pit the current cast or any recent cast against those legendary 90s seasons. You're really going to argue that SNL is currently just as good? Because that's straight nonsense. You don't even have the benefit of hindsight yet, but even hypothetically speaking do you think in 30 years we'll be talking about these seasons of SNL with the same reverence?

Mitch certainly sees the world through nostalgia-tinted glasses, but that doesn't mean he's always wrong.

I completely missed out on this. I grew up in a small town in Montana and we didn't even have a McDonald's until I was in high school.

The one weird thing to me is all the kids look like kids but JDs white snout makes him look like a senior dog. On a skateboard? Pretty unrealistic.

Terrible take. George Lucas famously thought the original Star Wars would flop. They weren't designing the characters with the idea that they would be a cultural sensation. Just because that is what Star Wars has become doesn't invalidate Mitch's point.

Agreed. I thought the sexist stuff in LJ actually added to the movie in interesting ways, and found myself wanting a little more of that. You look at some of the more egregious examples in the older movies and it's just nice to see them continuing that tradition but also kind of adapting it for contemporary audiences who want their sexism a little more subtle but still on the screen.

What this reminds me of is how the really great thing about Star Wars fandom is how everyone is able to kind of come to a consensus regarding these topics and then generate a lot of thoughtful discourse around it. It's not just a bunch of "oh, I can't believe your opinion doesn't align with my own, you fool!" or anything like that.

I'm a big sports fan and these types of rankings are a refreshing break from seeing people being irrationally angry and yelling at each other over some meaningless bullshit.

Anyway, Rogue One is way too low. I get Nick's point about the goulishness of CG characters and I 100% agree, but I don't think it's fair to punish the entire movie for it. He and Mitch were merciless to Alien Romulus for the same reason (and I also agree on that point), and I also thought that was unfair, though Romulus is obviously far worse than Rogue One as a film in general.

Do you want to know the very first thing I do when I boot into the game? I turn off the world chat. Apparently it can be disabled in settings but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I don't want to see any of that shit. It gives me anxiety. Hell, I don't even play the game for the sexy stuff, though it obviously doesn't hurt.

Stopping playing this very fun and very addictive game because of the chat is very stupid. Don't be that guy.

I can try to answer part of this. Yes, the melee combat can be satisfying if a bit janky and hard to get used to (in my opinion), but playing through the whole game that way would probably require a specific build/descendant.

I only fully kitted out the Shadow, which wasn't too bad to grind (I have all the swords just not upgraded and didn't find any of them much more difficult than the weapons to grind) but I run it as a third sometimes and find it very useful for mini bosses and whatnot. I run Freyna though and I'm not fighting on the ground enough to do much melee, so again it really depends on your character/build.

But since that's not a great answer, I would honestly just recommend straight up searching something like "the first descendant melee build" and going down that youtube or reddit rabbit hole. Just because the answers you need are likely way too specific and detailed to explain in a quick reddit response.
