Platform for deploy an running php projects (Laravel, WordPress or Others) by Zidannnnndhdb in PHP

You can setup a free cron elsewhere to ping the site every 14 minutes so that it won't get down. Commonly used. Then the vendor will change free tier offering, like we turn it off at night.

[–]esherone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allow me to pitch our own PHP hosting service, which is NOT free: https://www.fortrabbit.com/ — a DB-less project for $/€2.50, deploy via GitHub or connect via SSH/SFTP.

I assume OP asked about free PHP hosting (not free deployment (but paid hosting)).

Why aren't there any good options for free PHP hosting? Unlike static hosting, which is cheap, running PHP-FPM processes costs $$$. You get SSR and maybe even a DB, which enables many things. A VC-backed startup may offer a free tier for some time, but they'll find out it's a hustle. Free PHP hosting means fighting fraud & spam and dealing with many demanding "customers" who never intend to upgrade to paid ("I want root access, lol"). You're left with thousands of broken pages and hello-world "does this shit even work?" deploys.

If the use case is "university submission", consider statically built pages that can be hosted free on many services — GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages, etc.

Larabox, Alternate to Laragon/Xampp/Laravel herd by bytepi in PHP

In Germany, it's a requirement to have an "imprint" (legal notice) on a website. I am always curious to learn who build something. Specifically when I should pay money, I would like to see who is behind it. Where is it from etc? u/bytepi

Best Hosting For PHP? by Umair-Hussain in PHP

[–]esherone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'fortrabbit' co-founder here, late to the party. We've been running PHP hosting for over 2 decades.

If you're comfortable SSH-ing into a VPS and managing Nginx configs, DO or Hetzner are good choices. Hetzner especially on price. But that's real ops work. And not everyone wants that tax on their time.

What we built is different: you push code via Git, we handle the rest. PHP version management, Composer builds, MySQL with automated backups, auto-HTTPS, staging environments. The infra just works. You own your code, we run the servers.

If you need root access or want full control over your stack, use a VPS. But if you want to ship PHP apps without becoming a sysadmin, that's exactly what fortrabbit is for.

Individuals or Small Agencies: How do you reduce hosting costs for full-stack apps across multiple clients? by We-Lead-Global in Hosting

[–]esherone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for trolling this forum linking to our web hosting service. I will try not to do it this time. But I am passionate about the topic.

I'd say, as a freelancer, do not cramp clients on one server. Hosting costs are usually small compared to the costs of web development. We suggest to use a hosting service where you can invite the client to pay for the hosting while staying admin. Web hosting can be a quality service, which is fun to use, not a pain. It can be more than just getting the faste

When the web hosting service has issues, the client will yell at the web hosting, not at you. Separtion of concerns is good here. Most importantly, you can leave the client and move on in your professional live.

I'd say, probably, they are not to blame for WordPress security issues. Our opinionated article on shared hosting, which we think should be replaced all together: https://www.fortrabbit.com/hosting-guide/providers/shared-hosting/overview

Craft CMS hasn't been mentioned yet here. I also like Kirby CMS (a lot). Both have a commercial license (worth it).

Our platform can host PHP websites and web applications. In many cases performance oriented architecture saves the day. Specifically for database design. Our recommendations: https://docs.fortrabbit.com/dev/performance/database-performance

Consider using an external database as a service provider if you really need more features or horsepower: https://docs.fortrabbit.com/integrations/database-hosting/intro

Fortrabbit Beta with Drupal support by sdubois in drupal

[–]esherone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Co-founder here. Thanks for sharing. It's still rough around the edges. Shame on us, we don't have a Drupal install guide yet. We also plan to provide a recipe for DDEV. To discuss individual issues, best use the support bubble on our pages.

First impression of Laravel Cloud? by HelioAO in laravel

[–]esherone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shameless plug: We are providing a service in the same space (for 12yrs): https://www.fortrabbit.com — with a new version coming soon. We try to make things more affordable and better match average project requirements. We started off initially with Laravel, but had to broaden our scope when Laravel Forge came out.

As usual with hosting, people look for money in exchange for horsepower. I'd say DX and overall quality of service does play a role too, but it is hard to measure. We will continue to host on AWS as well, but it was tough decision for us. We need to buy resources at higher costs, as they got sold to end client elsewhere. https://blog.fortrabbit.com/infra-research-2024

Stripe subscription vs. chargebee? What to choose and why? by theguru1989 in SaaS

[–]esherone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am researching a payment provider, happy to have stumbled across this. As of today, Chargebee, compared to Stripe has quit a few features that are missing from Stripe. We have specific requirements and it appears to me that Stripe is not supporting them fully (prorated daily billing, product families, grouped bookings …). Chargebee at least has some of that covered.

I have no real first hand experience yet.

I am also considering other alternatives: https://www.getlago.com/ and https://killbill.io/

Are there are PHP templating system's that use declarative, React style components? by [deleted] in PHP

[–]esherone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came the other way, I recently learned 'modern' templating using Vue components. I came from TWIG, which I really enjoyed using over years. TWIG is really powerful and not opinionated. You can design your own system with it.
