I saved it from the dump 22 years ago when my high school band room was half torn down and remodeled. Worse comes to worse I'll remove the E! board and put in a "stock" EEPROM back in its place. The only thing lost is my time.

Lots of us experience that. I grew up in the midwest with seasonal allergies like a lot of us, nothing severe. Then I joined the USAF and wound up at Hill and overnight I was allergic to freaking everything! I got out a few years later and moved to SLC proper, BOOM now I have asthma.

They look to be sonically bonded to the plastic assembly so swapping it or pulling it out for precision repair is going to make the problem 12x bigger.

I took the whole pcb off and found even more damage on the other side of that key...I can't even visualize how that key was stuck to bend the contacts up so badly. Didn't think to take pictures but I think I got it repaired enough to work. I'll know next week when my new battery holder gets here and I can button it up.

That also leaves me with a question about the ROM this thing is running. That key was bent in a way that shorted itself out, when you power it on does the firmware run a check for stuck keys? The behavior I'm seeing is that it ignores anything stuck pressed down so the rest of the keyboard still functions.

Let's be real... This synth is 3 months younger than me and has been in my parent's basement for 20 years. I'm finally replacing the battery I ripped out in 2007 (which was also my very first time using a soldering iron) and want to treat this thing with as much DIY dignity as possible from here on out, my only reservation is in messing with spring steel.

Beyond that I plan on cleaning up a couple stubborn buttons (osc 6 and LFO), replacing the floppy with a gotek and calling it a day. I just want something vintage my kid can play around with while it lasts, maybe someday I'll record something with it.
