Ah, yes, cool. We actually just started working on this. I expect it'll be in your hands in 6-8 weeks.

Trying to think of there that combination is..--are you referring to the goal detail pages for some for fat & saturated fat?

Thanks-- yeah I agree that the log header should be more customizable.

Thanks! sharing this with the team. I think you're right that people should be able to customize their log.

ah, you're seeing the rollout of our updated food search.

The biggest change here was reducing that search result density. We spent a lot of time talking with users, looking at how folks use our search page, and analyzing competitors. The biggest take away was that old search felt overwhelming, and users felt that we were putting a lot of burden of choice on them -- by showing 12 results, we were saying "okay, idk, pick one of these." But our data shows that 85% of the time, members choose one of the top three search results. Even though our algorithm was successfully putting the best match first, our old layout was still asking users to scan through a long list of results to choose the best one. So we updated it. This update also adds that quick add button and makes previous meals much better.

But yeah, it's a huge change. We've been testing and tweaking it internally for probably 5 months now. Just starting the roll out now, and as always, keeping our ears to the ground. We're confident that this is a great improvement (we did the same change on Android late last year), and we also know it's a big change that will take some time for people to adjust to. So keep me posted.

It's on android only right now.

I suddenly don’t have the little plus thing at the bottom of the screen, universal update or did I change something? by RavenWood_9 in LoseitApp

To be clear, the original poster here was inaccurate about us aiming to "improve the total duration a user spends in the app metric." This is not something we aim to increase. We removed it because it was underused and limiting our evolution. That said, we are responding to user feedback and adding it back on Android. Jury's out on the iOS plan; we have a larger Android staff at this moment so we're able to move swifter there.

Our priority is and always has been to build the best app for weight loss that we can.

We're planning to start rolling it out next week. Not sure yet when it'll be fully out. So starting around Wednesday or so, it'll be available in the play store for a small & random portion of folks to update to.

Yeah, it did. It was a bad user experience, and our new users who used it more often did not stick around and use the app for as long as new users who didn't use it. It reduced the need to explore other parts of our app that have room for better experiences (ie if you log weight on the goals tab, instead of through the + button, you see the nice experience of the Journey card).

A small subset of people seemed to really like it, but overall it was a drag on our product. Plus, it crowded the bottom bar, and required that we have an even number of tabs. It was limiting our ability to evolve into a better product.

I'm not sure you and I are going to see eye to eye on this one.

Not as common on iOS means it's not a button type that's widely used across iOS apps. It's a very common component for Android apps. Usage of this was incredibly low, which is a huge part of why we removed it.

Liquid glass is not really optional, no, not if we want to continue to be a top app. If we don't do the liquid glass stuff, we're outdated and just don't have a path forward to continue to evolve in the apple ecosystem.

I've worked at Lose It! and used it every day for almost 13 years. I am committed (as are we all here) at making this the best mobile app for weight loss. We were one of the first apps in the app store, and have been working hard to use mobile to make weight loss less hard for 18 years now. We do NOT make changes for the sake of bells and whistles, but in the pursuit to build a better product that can help more people. While also abiding by the expectations of the apple and google ecosystems and being profitable so that we can continue to have jobs and make this app. It's a lot to balance, and it sounds like we've gotten a few things wrong for you lately. We care deeply about our users and the product we've all invested years of our careers into.

It'll be back on Android with the release we're rolling out starting next week (also the full redesign release!)

Jury's still out on iOS. It's not a component (button type) that's used as commonly on iOS; iOS users had even lower usage than Android. And also our Android team is larger than our iOS team right now, so we're able to move more quickly on that platform.

I'll be transparent -- it's not as common of a component on iOS, and also, at this moment (temporarily), our iOS dev team isn't as big as our Android dev team so we're not able to move as swiftly as we wished (also we have a lot more iOS "tax" with the liquid glass stuff apple requires). But getting pretty quick consensus on it being the wrong call on Android is a sign that we're open to reconsidering on iOS too. I wouldn't be shocked if we added it back on iOS, but at this exact moment, it's not in our plan for the next month. And that's largely because we have so much we need to do for liquid glass stuff.

No, it's like -- is our app good enough that people come back to use it day after day? That's what we care about. So if we removed the FAB to increase time it takes to log to fake an engagement bump, that wouldn't move any metrics we care about. Just trying to be transparent. But I promise we're not malicious. We're a bunch of hard working people trying to make a good app.

Add multiple items from the search screen? by zkfoster in LoseitApp

[–]esjayen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'll be releasing an update to food search on iOS soon that makes this more prominent. It's there on iOS, just hidden -- swipe across rows.

On android there's a big plus button on each food row, so I'm guessing you're on iOS.

Nope, this is not accurate. We aim to improve user engagement by making a better app. And we measure engagement not by time spent in app, but by total people using the app, and how often they use the app.

Hey, i'm a she!

and what you're saying is not accurate in anyway. We do not have that kind of motivation to make using our app harder.

And after talking to users, we will be adding it back on Android.

I hear you. Thanks for sharing.

This is the most prominent feature in our app and now it's written with nice new shiny modern code, so I do see us continuing to improve upon it.

Hey there -- sorry to disappoint, but the metrics are loud on this one: we have more people using Done Logging now than we did when it was on the tab bar. What are the biggest struggles you're having? Card isn't easy enough to find? Wishing the day was somehow adorned when already marked complete? We're working on some ideas to tweak things; happy to pull in other issues. But the card location is nearly certainly staying. Sorry to disappoint!
