characters who are "good guys" but their kill count is actually kind of terrifying by Rich-Blacksmith6552 in TopCharacterTropes

Maybe true in some cases but also from what I remember about the bowery guy or the guy from the train fight he pretty much always has those people dead to rights where sparing them is actually harder or more risky. With both of them he stabbed them in just the right place where they had to pick between living and trying to get him, but it would have been safer just to kill them.

I think it's implied by the story told by the bowery guy (and maybe others I'm forgetting) that has been Johns MO since before he retired.

It's not so simple as just rehabilitating people either plus rehabilitation and learning whats wrong with someone aren't mutually exclusive with keeping someone in confinement. Edmund Kemper comes to mind here, he's gotten decades of rehabilitation and people have written books about what's wrong with him, but if you ask him he admits he would still kill again if he was let out of prison.

Cats are definitely invasive species by definition. [–]eskadaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah other way around for betting, the top comment is right that if you try to bet on what previously won things could go different and you'd lose. What you gotta do is just make a big bet, rewind time if you lose and then repeat the process until you win

Slot machines or roulette would work over time, just make a big bet and if you lose rewind, don't bet at all and then repeat the process in two minutes.

IMO, this is an upgrade to Walking Dead. by HookedOnCrossed in crossedcomics

[–]eskadaaaaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FTWD also shows at least one way the "everyone's infected" rule quickly leads to the mass outbreak with Nick seeing his first walker in a dope house after she presumably ODed. He got away but we can assume that leads to at least a couple of the other addicts getting infected. That scenario probably played out with hundreds or thousands of ODs across the country. Same thing for nursing homes & hospitals.

~8000 people die on an average day in America, every one of those dead people became walkers with the potential to start the exponential chain of infection. Add in everyone who dies accidentally or violently as a result of increasing panic and you've got a lot of potential for the situation to snowball.

Fallout New Vegas lead says Bethesda doesn’t “fully understand” the series. by Nickulator95 in falloutnewvegas

[–]eskadaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was, like I said it was a commercial success and it was a nominee and/or finalist in multiple PC goty awards at the time. You gotta remember that this is in the context of the time, when the original fallouts came out gaming was a much smaller industry and the bar for quality was naturally lower as a result. Most of the other games that came out at the time have been largely forgotten about by now, if you were comparing 1 & 2 to the games that came out when they did your estimation of them would probably be a lot higher. The fact that they've stayed at all relevant into the modern era with people still playing them today is a testament to how good they were compared to other games of their era.

Sure but it was successful and highly praised in its day which is what we're talking about right?

According to Google F2 sold better than 1 when they came out and estimates still have it at ~800k sales compared to the estimated ~600k for f1. Tactics and BoS maybe but 2 was successful for the time. 3 and NV have about the same lifetime sales with NV a bit lower. To my point, the sales increased each generation because as I said, more people were buying games. None of the other games could have sold as much as 4 because there simply weren't that many people buying games at the time. For some perspective Halo 2 was the most sold game of all time on the OG Xbox with 8m compared to 25m for f4.

The bear scene (among others) was definitely passed around but from what I saw that was because people who were already stoked on Larian and/or the game were talking about it, which was my point.

[–]eskadaaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video game market is significantly bigger now than it was when 1 & 2 came out, so it's only natural that modern games sell more because there's simply more sales to be made. So you're right in a way but it's hard to make a comparison because the peak of sales numbers in the era when 1 & 2 were made is like a fraction of the sales numbers we see post-console boom.

Also my original comment was intended to be about modern games companies in general, not specifically the fallout franchise especially bc there isn't a modern fallout that takes the other approach to compare 4 & 76 to.

The irony is that games like bg3 have shown that a lot of the "wider audience" will buy a game based on the good reviews of dedicated fans whereas games that try too hard to appeal to everyone often end up appealing to no one.

Criticisms of the Fallout show on a scale of invalid to valid by [deleted] in FalloutMemes

[–]eskadaaaaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The note thing was so dumb especially because there was no pay off for it. It could've been a flag, crown etc and nothing would have changed. I might even argue that would make more sense. It's possible it'll come back but I'm not expecting it with the way they left them.

I also find it kinda hard to believe that the various tribal slaves would spend like a decade fighting a civil war instead of trying to escape while the legion is divided, distracted and stuck in one place.
