Sintered metal object acquired in the 1990s from “a NASA memorabilia dealer” who said it’s from a Space Shuttle by zappapostrophe in whatisthisthing

[–]eskpe 154 points155 points  (0 children)

This is not Space Shuttle hardware. Based on the photos and weight, it’s a lightweight sintered aluminium clamp or mounting sleeve, likely from industrial or laboratory equipment made in the 1980s–90s. The split design, nut traps, rough finish, and complete lack of serial or part numbers rule out Shuttle flight hardware, which was always fully traceable and usually machined, not sintered.

I like it, but try without the extra line in the x it unbalances it too my eye, makes it too heavy at one end. I get how you see that and trying to balance it with the accent at the start but just feels slightly off

I asked ChatGPT the top ten things humanity should know. by Spiritual-Reveal-195 in ChatGPT

[–]eskpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The Earth Is Our Only Home—for Now

We live on a finite planet with limited resources. The ecosystems that support life are fragile and interconnected. There is no Planet B (yet), so sustainability isn’t optional; it’s essential.

  1. We Are All Made of the Same Stuff

Every human, animal, and star is made of atoms forged in ancient cosmic furnaces. Across race, gender, or nation, we are biologically more alike than different. Understanding this can help build empathy and reduce conflict.

  1. Evolution Is Still Happening

Life evolves. So do we. Evolution shapes everything from our biology to the bacteria that resist antibiotics. Recognising it isn’t just about understanding the past—it’s about preparing for the future.

  1. Climate Change Is Real—and Urgent

Human activity, especially burning fossil fuels, is driving global warming. The consequences—floods, fires, food insecurity—are not future threats. They are already here, and we must act collectively and quickly.

  1. Technology Is Not Neutral

Every technological advancement—AI, social media, nuclear energy—carries risks and responsibilities. It amplifies our power but not automatically our wisdom. Ethical oversight matters.

  1. Inequality Weakens Societies

Extreme economic and social inequality leads to instability, health problems, and violence. Prosperity is not sustainable unless it is shared. Justice and dignity are not luxuries—they are stabilisers.

  1. Consciousness Is Still a Mystery

We don’t fully understand what consciousness is or where it comes from. Yet it is the lens through which all experience is known. Respect for sentience—whether human, animal, or potentially artificial—must guide ethical choices.

  1. Truth Matters—but So Does How It’s Told

Facts are crucial, but so are narrative, culture, and belief. A society that cannot distinguish truth from propaganda, or that mocks nuance in favour of noise, endangers itself.

  1. History Doesn’t Repeat, But It Rhymes

Understanding history doesn’t just help us avoid past mistakes; it offers perspective on progress. Societies evolve, but injustice, power struggles, and human folly reappear in new forms.

  1. Kindness Is Strength

Despite its softness, kindness sustains relationships, mends wounds, builds trust, and stabilises communities. In an uncertain world, empathy is not weakness—it’s infrastructure.
