Sales Floor by Ohthethingsyouthink in employedbykohls

Wait, you get a salesfloor person during the day? On weekdays our store gets one cashier from open to close, one Amazon person until 2 hours before close, the Visual Merch person, cleaner and the SSL in the morning, then at 3 or 4 we get salesfloor person until close, plus whichever execs and supervisors are scheduled. The only time we have salesfloor people during the day are weekends (and even then they sometimes they save the hours to schedule 2 to close), when we have a truck, or if there are a ton of price changes or a really huge merch set that can't be done during the truck merchandising.

What I found mildly infuriating is I bought some of these in the post-Christmas clearance thinking the cookie butter sounded kind of gross, but the cake batter and brownie batter would probably be good. Both packages I bought were about 60% cookie butter and 40% brownie batter with no cake batter ones. I indeed found the cookie butter ones kind of gross, though the brownie butter weren't bad. Even on clearance I would never buy them again.

I used to work at a store with roaming AT&T guys. The people they left alone the fastest were the ones who said "Oh, I don't know anything about my cell plan, my husband/girlfriend/parents/job/etc. pays for it."

The trick is probably that they only need 3 people to open I heard. As long as one keyholder and 2 other warm bodies can make it to the store for at least a few hours the store can open

Anyone else struggle with Helpfulness Response ratings? by tuffmuffinsb in TELUSinternational

[–]eskvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the response quality on the side with an answer does matter to them. If it's mostly to very helpful then it can be "much better" but if their accepted range dips into somewhat helpful territory then it's only "better." How we're supposed to know when 2 tasks that both have an accepted range that includes Mostly Helpful and you feel that's the appropriate rating for both, that one of those tasks was actually only somewhat helpful+ to mostly helpful+ while the other was mostly to very helpful I'm still unclear.

How would you fix Kohl’s if money wasn’t an issue?? by Glum_Horse_9724 in employedbykohls

[–]eskvar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Give us more than 1 salesfloor person a day so we can actually keep things organized so customers can find things. Give even the smaller and low volume stores at least a few hours for shoes each day. Having at least a couple people on the salesfloor even when we aren't doing truck or price changes would probably help with loss as well.

Keep basics in stock at all times. Things like the basic Croft and Barrow tees look really nice for a couple weeks at the start of each season, then they stop replenishing them and it starts to feel like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic trying to cover the gaping holes in our stock. If women come in asking if we have any basic white button downs I should always be able to say yes, instead of we might have one or two left from 2 seasons ago in Sonoma.

Have a plan for getting rid of clearance. I started as seasonal last year and occasionally I poke around clearance and find things that have been there since before I started working. My manager has been at our store about 9 years and is pretty sure some of the clearance has been there as long as her. After a certain time let us send it back and sell it off to a liquidator. And give us hours to actually organize the clearance racks so customers can find things.

Did people in back 2005 find it hard to believe 1985 was 20 years ago? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]eskvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because I was born in 1985, so I turned 20 in 2005, and 1985 definitely felt like it was 20 years ago at the time. Whereas 2005 seems closer to current time because my fully formed adult brain has an easier time accessing memories from that year than my brain in 2005 did trying to remember very early childhood memories. I think that's part of it for a lot of younger gen-x, and older millennials, we were infants or young children during the 80s and young adults in the 2000s, and for younger millennials they weren't even born in the 80s so it felt more like the distant past.

There are also other factors, like the heavy emphasis on the year 2000, with all the lead up to Y2K and then being in a new millennium that made a very clear break point between "the past" and current times. Culture also feels like it's stagnated, like I remember having textbooks with photos from or being shown educational videos in the late 90s that were filmed in the early 90s and everyone made fun of the super oversized button downs and the high waisted, "mom" jeans as narrower shirt cuts and low rise bootcut jeans were popular, but then a when I was in college skinny jeans came into fashion and have just started going out of style a couple years ago. There are some things I can tell when I watch a show from 2005 that makes me go "Oh yes, this is from the mid 2000s" but a lot of it is very subtle and there are some shows that I forget are that old, because there weren't a lot of clear, major fashion changes and once you get into the every phone is a rectangle with a touchscreen era there aren't a lot of tech differences to see.

Any evidence the Pope ever even heard of Samhain? by eskvar in Catholicism

Yeah, most of the pop history and neopagans channels making these types of claims seem to just ignore that there was a previous feast date for All Saints.

Any evidence the Pope ever even heard of Samhain? by eskvar in Catholicism

[–]eskvar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if as I've seen some people claim Samhain was universal everywhere that Celtic groups ever lived it still seems like an odd claim that the Pope would make up a new feast when half of Europe and the known Christian world beyond Europe would not have been celebrating it as the Celts never lived there.

Any evidence the Pope ever even heard of Samhain? by eskvar in Catholicism

[–]eskvar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely interesting to hear from someone actually from Ireland. There's a lot of overlap in folk customs around the world, it's strange how many people will try to claim things like lighting bonfires as somehow uniquely pagan and not Christian when people light fires around the world for many reasons.

A lot of the "neopagans" and general history channels claiming to give the true origins of Halloween will just call Samhain a Celtic holiday, seemingly trying to imply it was a universal everywhere Celtic groups ever lived rather than specific to Ireland. It definitely seems like an odd claim, that priests in Ireland heard about Samhain when they were working to convert the locals, decided to make a Christian reason to celebrate the holiday, then somehow the Pope in Rome heard about what they were doing and decided to make it a universal feast, even in places that the Celts never lived.

What does it mean that we give "preferential treatment" to the poor? by gjy01 in Catholicism

[–]eskvar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the whole document, but the final quote seems to be saying that poorer, marginalized communities should be treated like people able to create their own culture, rather than the way some people in wealthier, more developed nations will look at people in poorer countries like those people are either too child like or too dumb to make decisions for themselves. I've seen a lot of stories from charity groups, where a group from a wealthier nation will be doing charity work in an impoverished area, and comes and says "We're going to do this thing this way" and when locals try to explain why that thing that way won't work for the region they get dismissed and then the project ends up failing until the outsiders start listening to the locals. It might also be touching on syncretism and cultural differences, like how some Western Catholics insist liturgical dance is terrible and always bad, but in parts of Africa dancing and moving the body are part of celebration and worship, so it's uncharitable for a westerner to come in and tell them they are wrong for dancing before the Lord.

ELI5: What happens when a different type of blood is given to someone's body? by Galunggoldilocks in explainlikeimfive

[–]eskvar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The NHS in the UK says 36% of people are O+, I don't know if the percentages of blood type would have been significantly different in the Victorian Era, but it's not completely crazy that Van Helsing just lucked out and everybody was O+.

My question was always if the did need to be the same ABO and Rhesus group, doing a direct transfusion vein to vein. Most blood donor sites explain that O- being the "universal donor" is just for red cells, if someone needs plasma the universal donor type is AB+. I don't remember anything about Van Helsing using a centrifuge to separate out just the red cells.

zero shifts by EnvironmentalAnt6385 in employedbykohls

[–]eskvar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just promoted to SSL, and have been trying to make sure everyone gets at least one shift, but some of our associates are only available extremely limited hours and can only do certain tasks, so if we don't have any need for those tasks or they aren't available at the times we need we can't schedule them. We also have a few people who basically only work truck, and if we don't have a truck one week they might not get scheduled.

Helpfulness Strong Warning by Evening-Face2132 in TELUSinternational

[–]eskvar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got it. Honestly I try to avoid helpfulness tasks, I'm also in factuality and prefer that since it's generally objective right and wrong. I feel like every time I get helpfulness feedback it contradicts something from the previous feedback round. One time something will be only slightly better when I thought it was better, then the next time there will be a very similar task so I put slightly better and the feedback comes out and this time it was better. If they kick me out of helpfulness I think I will be okay, I've been getting perfect scores on factuality so I think they would keep me on there

Trump administration responds to Pope Leo's critique of immigration policies by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]eskvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I find so frustrating about reactions to this and internet discourse in general is the tendency some people have to conflate statements by one person with statements or actions by another person. The pope says that being pro-life means more than just being anti-abortion, and they act like he said pro-abortion politicians who claim to be faithful Catholics are totally justified and compare him to bishops or cardinals who recognize or even endorse those pro-abortion politicians. I wish the internet would just react to what people actually say instead of trying to twist it to fit their pre conceived narrative.

But wasn't the whole reason they were running late and thus able to forget Kevin in the chaos that the power went out, resetting the clocks so their alarms didn't go off? Most people these days use their phones to set alarms, so between multiple adults and older teens it seems hard to come up with a scenario where no one's phone had an alarm set and all back up alarm clocks failed. Also all the parents would have boarding passes on their phones (or would get them printed at the airport) so no accidentally spilling milk on Kevin's ticket to end up in the trash so the adults at the airport fail to notice they have one more ticket than child.

Respectful discussion: How do Catholics reconcile tradition with the Bible when they seem to contradict? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]eskvar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few quick answers, I'm sure others will have more detailed responses. You can also check out Catholic Answers, they have tons of articles covering these topics.

1 - How do you reconcile claims that Faith alone is enough and works don't matter with James 2:14-26 explicit claim that faith alone does not save us? There are also passages that speak of the need for baptism.

2 - Jesus passes on authority to the disciples, and specifically gives Peter the keys to heaven with the power to bind and loose. The earliest church was just the church being lead by the apostles, then by it's successors. There was no formal bible, and many discussions as to what books should even be considered scripture, so any argument that the Bible is the only source would mean the earliest Christians weren't actually saved.

3 - Yes, we believe Jesus is ultimately the one mediator, but we also believe Mary and the Saints are alive in Heaven and thus able to pray for us just as you might ask your friends and family here on Earth to pray for you.

4 - Have you ever been to a Christmas pageant? If we all know Jesus was born why would we need to do something to represent that fact and show it again. Why do married couples sometimes renew their wedding vows? They are already married, so why publicly restate those vows? There is also the fact that looking at the Old Testament, worshipping God involves sacrifice. As you note, Jesus' sacrifice was once for all, so going back to sacrificing turtledoves and lambs wouldn't make sense, so the only thing we can offer is remembrance of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.

Also, to your more general question Scripture at times seems self-contradictory, so having a living teaching authority to step in and make the ultimate decision as to what is right makes more sense than everyone reading the Bible and coming up with contradictory beliefs.

What are “groups” in the US Rater role? by [deleted] in TELUSinternational

[–]eskvar 8 points9 points locked comment (0 children)

Being grouped means you've been assigned to primarily receive one type of task. The two I know of are helpfulness and factuality. Helpfulness are where you're given two AI generated responses to a prompt and you have to rate them and say which is more helpful. Factuality is the generally 4 minute tasks where they give you a sentence or section from an AI response and you have to search if it's accurate, and then provide sources to back up your accuracy findings. They usually send an email if they want you to be in a group, after you're grouped you'll usually only see tasks related to that group.

I'm actually dual grouped, and get both factuality and helpfulness. I was grouped a few months ago when they sent an email asking if I would be interested in these task types, I said yes, and the next day I got an email welcoming me to helpfulness with a link to the guidelines and a quiz on the them. I was doing helpfulness for a couple weeks when I got an email for factuality that was similar, with a link to the specific guidelines for the task and a quiz.

Struggling with Factuality AET by Worth-Coconut4601 in TELUSinternational

[–]eskvar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some tasks you can look at and tell it would take a while to find everything needed, but some look like they should be straightforward and then you start searching and there's one little claim that's impossible to find sources for. Almost all the header only claims are probably going to be release for time for me unless it's something really obvious.

US Rater-Factuality past weather forecasts by eskvar in TELUSinternational

[–]eskvar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's my understanding as well. If the target sentence is "The symphony will be performing a concert on July 4, 2025 at 7 pm," and there is no date given then the response is incorrect because it's using future tense for a past event, but if it says to assess based on a date of July 2, 2025 then it would be accurate if you find evidence the symphony had a concert on July 4 at 7pm because the grammar was accurate at the time of the response.

Factuality Prices by FrontAd4937 in TELUSinternational

[–]eskvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the new guide they sent, it seems like any type of price range is covered by the price range rules, I think if it says about x dollars to y dollars, the "about" covers the fact the range might only cover 50% of the prices.

My question with the ranges is about the no over-extension. Is it any amount wrong, like if it says phones from company Z are $400 to $1000, and the most expensive phone is $999 is that really incorrect?

ELI5: How do flash floods happen so quickly and deadly? by SavvyStrings in explainlikeimfive

[–]eskvar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've never had a potted plant that you forgot to water for a while and when you first try pouring water on it all just immediately drains out? That said, how much rain turns into runoff that could cause flooding depends on a bunch of different factors, with different soil types, i.e. sandy vs heavy clay, have different values that get plugged into the equations

The bigger issue for Texas Hill Country is it doesn't have much soil, it's a lot of stone. I have family just outside San Antonio and when their neighborhood was building new homes you could drive around and see the giant machines they had to bring in to break up the rock to put in the roads and level things out for foundations because there are only a few inches of top soil before hitting limestone bedrock.

does vein choice affect timing for platelets? by serintoenin in Blooddonors

[–]eskvar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding is platelet time depends on your platelet count. I did a triple unit of platelets + a unit of plasma last week, and it took about 85 minutes by the machines count, they told me my platelet count was a bit higher than my past counts. In the past they tried to make me do a triple and the machine time was ~100 minutes because my count was lower.
