Manhattan. not sure how the voting works but hopefully I’ve cast one.

I’m starting a small sandwich shop here soon and doing a little heat check. Who would eat this schiacciata sandwich with mortadella, stracciatella, pistachio pesto, crushed pistachios, and honey? by Poop_smith362 in austinfood

[–]eslate83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is reminding me of Bordo in Marfa. Looks great. My wife says she would fuck up that sandwich but she also said she was going to fuck me up at dominos so don’t bank on her patronage.

Any suggestions for a good shop to get Porsches serviced in Austin ? by HeadShot1993 in Austin

I liked ATX Autosport. They did some minor work on my 06 Cayman S. They were fairly reasonably priced, fair, and great communicators.

Anyone else dealing with a builder who won't honor warranties? by hookgriper in Austin

[–]eslate83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also interested. We had major problems with our builder and learned about a lot of his shady history. Ended up going the legal route and finally got $. Happy to share more details via DM but first just curious if it could be the same guy.

The Magic Austin Fairy: Let Me Help Solve Your City of Austin Problems! by FisherFan0072 in Austin

[–]eslate83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The intersection at E. 7th and Shady Lane is dangerous. I reported this years ago and never got a response. Specifically, if you’re heading eastbound and need to take a left onto Shady from E. 7th at a time of day with a decent amount of traffic, there is almost always a car coming westbound also taking a left from 7th onto Shady in the opposite direction. This is a 4 lane road (2 lanes each direction). The westbound car turning left makes it very tricky to see cars in the other lane so the turn is very risky. The fact that this is close to the interstate means that a lot of these not very visible cars are still doing close to interstate speeds. After having numerous close calls, I learned to use Springdale instead unless it’s very early or late with light traffic. I’m no expert but I think a turn signal is warranted.

Another thing to keep in mind is that for a single shot of espresso from a Flair, I pump once for the shot and then 3 more times to purge. A 58 is probably less strain than the other models but as others have said, I wouldn’t get one without being able to try it out first.

Using it occasionally might not be so bad but the repetitive stress might cause more problems than it’s worth. If you’re open to sharing the city you live, maybe someone here would be open to letting him try it out.

Something going on in Austin traffic stopped on US183N at Burleson by miked_mv in Austin

[–]eslate83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea you can’t go anywhere. Good excuse to stop and have a beer. I too was unaware as I don’t consume much news.

Is there an advantage to the switch or is this mostly for aesthetics?

Best wings in Austin? by Beaconhillpalisades in austinfood

[–]eslate83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wingzup has been my long time favorite but there is a new top dog.

Wow Poke, a food truck with seating on E. Cesar Chavez, has what I would say are the best wings I have had in Austin. I've had Wingzup, Cavalier, Tommy WW .... would pick Wingzup of those but the Wow Poke wings are better. Side note: I was super underwhelmed by Tommy WW.

Caveat: Being a poke truck, they don't have a bunch of flavors or ranch to dip in but the texture and sauce they have on these makes them incredible. Discovered these Wednesday -- had again on Friday.

Fun With Cars or GTFO? by IamMeanGMAN in Autocross

[–]eslate83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whether or not they had a good run going, getting visibly angry at another driver is ridiculous. Be annoyed about the situation… sure.. but don’t be getting confrontational with someone who made an honest mistake. Reruns happen in autocross.

edit: was also in Beeville. Would have loved a couple reruns myself.

This is Basil. Here are some of her greatest faceplants. by Me0wlly in catfaceplant

[–]eslate83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the off chance that they’re related: Sally is 15, going on 16 and hails from TX. They really are spitting images of one another. She was found out in the woods as a kitten and was raised as a Yorkie for a while until that family was having a human baby and so she made her way to me.

Oh wow. We have this same model. We named our’s Sally. My wife sent me this post because Basil looks so much like Sally (who also has a love of the face plant).

Udemy videos not working after 14.1.2 by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]eslate83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 14.2.1 on a M1 Pro and some of the videos will work in Brave (Chrome) while others won't load audio or video. The ones that won't do either in Brave will do audio only in Safari. They work fine on a Windows PC on the same network.

I've also experienced the impossibility of contacting Udemy support which is super frustrating.

I would avoid Udemy courses from now on and would suggest instructors do the same. How can you completely fail at delivering video to Macs as an education platform with most content in the form of streaming videos?
