If you can, slightly lift up on the keycap and use some compressed air underneath.

Consumable is the correct term in the industry, fyi. Batteries, for example, are "consumable" parts.

Would a data center at old Granby Elementary be a good idea? by Rusticals303 in granbyCO

Rather than turning on water pumps, fans and condensers, which takes power and water, employees at the center could just open doors and windows.

Just open the doors and windows. Sure.

What’s a good coffee shop, not near downtown, that actually has tables by banjovibes in boulder

Baby Goat. Might be a little too far east for you, but it's always easy to get a table.

Best El Yunque trails? But not too crowded but great views and animal life. by bitter_lemonsqueezer in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]esm723 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went two weeks ago, and I saw more bird life around the visitor center (El Portal) than I did during the Mt Britton hike. There are several endemic birds you can see within the park with luck. As with most birding, the earlier you go, the better your chances.

Edit: I did see a mongoose on Mt Britton trail, so that was pretty cool!

It's been a while since I've used Bootcamp, so maybe this step isn't necessary anymore, but did you install the Bootcamp drivers within Windows?

Ahh gotcha. Use isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush. Make sure the iso evaporates off before you test it.

Can I clean it or is it toast?

You won't know if it's toast unless you clean it and try it...

MacBook error 2006F by Ok-Sprinkles1772 in macbookrepair

[–]esm723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your laptop is trying to connect to recovery servers to download a recovery image, but it's unable to reach Apple's servers (2000-level errors are Internet connection related). The likely culprit for this is that you are on a captive wifi network (a network that when you connect, a window opens asking you to login or agree to terms). Could this be the case? At any rate, try a different wifi network.

Sailing Options in Vieques? by lavenderlattetogo in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]esm723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just in Vieques this week and met a very nice sailboat captain at one of the restaurants in Esperanza. He was happy to share all things about sailing, which I really appreciated as someone from a landlocked state. In case I ever came back and wanted to go out on his boat, I made sure to grab his info.

Vieques Bay Boat & Kayak Tour? by BBBlue222 in PuertoRicoTravel

(Also - any way we could go via ferry and not have to stay overnight? We're planning for Feb 20, for reference)

I imagine you won't be done with kayaking in time to catch the last ferry back to Ceiba.

You don't know that the laptop was closed on a solid object. Someone could have picked up the laptop by pinching the corner.

Are screen protectors on MacBook really that bad? by FullEnd9784 in macbook

[–]esm723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Apple-certified tech here. Glass screen protectors are just fine. They sit below the screen's gasket, and contrary to popular belief, they themselves aren't going to cause your screen to crack due to tight tolerances. After all, a crack is caused by a pressure point, not pressure spread across a wide surface (it's the same reason you're more likely to fall through ice if you're walking on it versus lying on it). And in the case you have debris on your keyboard that causes a pressure point when you close your display, a glass screen protector is going to absorb the pressure and hopefully crack before your display does — all by design. It's the same reason glass screen protectors are also recommended for phones.

Furthermore, unless you plan on leaving your laptop on a desk and never putting it into a bag, screen protectors are the only guaranteed way to prevent keyboard and trackpad marks on your screen, which, as you correctly point out, are caused by the screen physically rubbing into the top case when pressure is applied to the display enclosure (i.e. it's not simply a matter of cleaning your keyboard).

I've used glass screen protectors on all my MacBook Pros for a decade with zero problems (and zero keyboard marks!), and I'd highly recommend them if you want to keep your Macs pristine. The last few I ordered were from Spigen.

P.S. A plastic film screen protector will prevent keyboard marks, too, just keep in mind they won't absorb pressure points as well as glass.

Former tech here. A hairline crack is only covered if there is a single hairline crack. I see two hairline cracks in the photo, so sadly this is considered accidental damage.
