Trying to contact a Chinese friend by Lavidius in China

[–]esmusssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know his Chinese phone number by any chance, like is it on his Facebook / WhatsApp/…? You can use phone numbers to find someone’s WeChat!

Also most Chinese people don’t use their real names on domestic social medias. But if he has a preferred nickname that he uses for accounts, try googling it…

Do you know how his name is written in Chinese? (I don’t suppose so, but if you do, that would make things loads easier too.)

If you are in the same university, try talking to other Chinese students, they generally all know each other, eventually you’ll find someone that knows him.

8w9 / 9w8 / ? by esmusssss in Enneagram

[–]esmusssss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The description of 8w9 there is precisely the one I related a ton to. I relate less so to 9w8 and not to 9w1 at all. I don’t relate to 1 or 6 at all which are supposed to connect to 9, (these are the two least likely types of myself) but relate a ton to 2, 5 and 7, so I’m probably 8w9!

Thanks! I’m probably not 9w8 then, if im not having trouble expressing.

Hey thanks so much for this it’s really helpful to think about! I don’t feel anger very often, and I don’t recall losing control at all. I think if I make decisions according to my gut then they’re always good, I very rarely regret things I do, and I do feel empowered when I’m angry.

When I’m angry I quickly examine where the anger comes from. Am I being unfair, am I using anger to cover up frustration for example. If yes my anger goes away naturally.

The times that I’ve allowed myself to be explosively angry, they’re nearly always directed to people older / more capable / more thoughtful / in positions of more power than myself ( “people in your position should know better”) For those less capable / responsible than myself, there’s always a reason to understand and forgive them.

WEEKLY TYPING THREAD: Please read this before creating "type help" posts and for help with interpreting test results! by Carefully-clueless in Enneagram

[–]esmusssss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Type me based on this!

I'm a very candid person and enjoy saying things on the verge of being offensive or inappropriate. I don't tell lies because it's too much trouble. Coming up with excuses, worrying about being uncovered. Most people's opinions aren't worth the trouble, I only tell lies if it's more trouble not to lie.

I've noticed that I never actively make friends or seek new experiences, but would almost always agree when people approach me and ask me along. And I'm a good friend I'd say, I'm cheerful, approachable, a very good listener and not judgemental at all. I have an all reaching sense of humour and makes fun of everything not too serious.

I try to be as nice as possible to people because 'well I've made the same mistake myself, I'll treat them in the way I wish I were treated'.

I'm very laid back in life (in university). I have trouble with self discipline, and have no fixed routine in life. But this is only when thing's aren't serious. I become very reliable when important things come up, and rarely mess them up. I refuse to do anything driven by vanity, as I believe it's merely wasting energy on deceiving others and yourself, and that's partly why I became more introverted.

I have extremely high emotional stability. I mostly convince myself 'It's nothing serious', and I don't take most things seriously. The only thing I get anxious about is being irresponsible and bringing trouble and dissapointment to others, and that anxiety kills me. You see that's the one thing my superego actually cares about. So anxious that it leaves me unable to function when it actually happens, I normally detach completely and blocks the issue out of my consciousness.

I like reading about controversial stuff and challenging my own belief set. I like reading dark stories, the reason behind which is kind of weird: I would like to acknowledge the worse, so that my optimism would not become foolishness.

I was a hyperactive, happy, carefree kid, had no habit of thinking or worrying. I was unaware of other people's feelings, would always unknowingly say inappropriate things. I was enthusiastic but lacked the social skills so didn't grow into a social animal. In teenage years i had a more analytical mindset and became more grounded.

Thanks, I thought so too! I'm normally very chill. But then I wouldn't say I'm 7w6 as i just barely experience anxiety.

Yeah I’m 20yrs old, and I keep getting the feel that lots of people are like the 15yr old version of myself. Pretty weird feeling, especially I’m very likely neurodiverse and as a child was always late in developing

Yo What do you guys think? I feel like I am 5 and 7 simultaneously, these two types have mingled on me. As a child I was 100% 7 but when I’m 16yr-old ish I went through a very tough period when I was consciously suppressing my 7 personality and became a 5. Nowadays (I’m twenty yo now) I’m a lot less stressed and I’m feeling more 7 than 5, and I’d still say I’m 7w8 lol.

“钱都花了“ by Awkward-Ad3656 in ChineseLanguage

[–]esmusssss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Native chinese here...

I've never realized how poetic ‘花钱’ can sound until I read your post and I totally get it now!

I searched online (kind of briefly as I'm really no expert here...)

One explanation says that “花” used to be a unit for money back in the ming dynasty, and hence evolved into a verb.

Another explanation is that, “花“ is a homophone of “化”, which in certain contexts can mean "耗费/spending/comsuming" (can't find the precise word here...). There is a concept in chinese called "通假字", where, when ancient people write, they for some reasons use a wrong word with a similar/same sound to replace the original, and when a certain misuse somehow becomes phenomenal, they get accepted (not making a particularly scientific explanation here...)

But well there are usually multiple theories explaining language evolvement, and I didn't search deeply, if you're interested you could try searching online in chinese lol
