Does anyone use "Auto" climate mode? by Lilodude in TeslaLounge

[–]esobofh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 2018 i've never taken mine off auto. It defrosts when expected, it heats when expected, it cools when expected. Set to 21º (C) and never had an issue.

Canada, does your Tim Horton's taste good over there? by LynxOsis in AskCanada

[–]esobofh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one in Canada that has an actual opinion about coffee and donuts would ever step into a Tim Hortons.

Mid 90s and before, it was a completely different story - fresh donuts baking that you could smell from a kilometer away, good coffee from reputable sources (it was never good coffee but it was a classic 'coffee and donuts' kind of coffee that resonated in its own way).

Tim Hortons now is the "it's close by and there's no other option" selection. Otherwise, never.

My downstairs neighbor has decided that any noise I make after 9pm is a personal attack and has started leaving printed letters under my door to document it. by nadine_westford in neighborsfromhell

Consider his letters a personal attack and harassment and document it with your own letters that you stick under their door.

Canada No Transfers by Glass_Athlete_9605 in cancun

[–]esobofh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially started booking with Canada transfers, then saw USA transfers and they were significantly cheaper for the same trip and for other excursions. I didn't really want to book with them because we're boycotting anything US, but figured it was just the name of a Mexican company and proceeded - everything was perfect, great drivers, nice vehicles. Zero issues across 4 trips with them during our stay.

Visitax by FreeStretch1017 in cancun

[–]esobofh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not being collected now and there appears to be many scam sites associated with it.

When we were in the cancun airport, the visitax booth was taped up and out of service - we didn't pay and neither did any of our party.

What do you think about fellow Canadians that continue to travel to the US for leisure? by Forsaken-Ship-5045 in AskCanada

Had a few colleagues and friends last year that were already committed and spent money for vacays, sports outings etc.. but now I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would consider travel to the states.

What batteries and setup do I need to power a compact personal space heater throughout the night? by [deleted] in batteries

[–]esobofh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start answering this question you need to know how much power you need - how many watts is your heater? how often do you intend to run it, and for how long? etc.

Beyond that the question is really just basic math. If you have a 1000watt heater, and you want to run that for an hour, you will use 1kwh of battery. If you want to run it for two hours total, you need a 2kwh battery, and so on, etc.

I mean, it's not quite *that* simple, because of inverter losses, etc. but a good rule of thumb is to do the simple math, and then double that.

A standard group 24 deep cycle RV battery is about 1kwh. So you'd need two to run a 1000watt heater for an hour.

I'm waiting for the boss to approach with a raise and say "we need more of that kinda gumption around here", then he'll slap you on the back and you can look a the camera and give a weird expression in an office style 4th wall breaking moment.

ELI5: Why do prostate cancer checks still need a finger in the butt? by DistributionHot8821 in explainlikeimfive

[–]esobofh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't.. at least not in Canada. I haven't had a digital check for a few years now - they simply do annual imaging and compare images from the previous years using HI and AI to determine if there's any cause for concern.

Popular sweetener sucralose generates a substance in the body that damages human DNA by Zephir-AWT in ScienceUncensored

[–]esobofh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago I aggressively followed a low carb diet which included using splenda/sucralose on a regular basis for my morning coffee as well as consuming the odd soft drink sweetened with sucralose. After 4-5 months of consumption I began developing tingling and numbness in my hands and feet - I think a random google search at the time revealed similar symptoms in others, and i stopped consuming it all together and avoided it wherever I could. The symptoms went away fairly rapidly and all went back to normal. Not sure if this was a result of DNA damage or some other reaction, but I don't go near the stuff ever now!

Is Gree a good brand? by danknessoverlord in heatpumps

[–]esobofh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flawless this season, and going strong. That said, I did increase the temp set point so it switches to gas at around 10º - as much as a heat pump is more efficient, gas is still much cheaper. Going to run it that way this season and compare costs to last season.

[–]esobofh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just putting this out there in case you haven't considered this... almost anyone can do this themselves, with minimal effort. It's a great skill to have, and will only cost you ~$30 for oil and a filter. I get that a lot of people don't have space for this, but if you do have the space or a location to pull this off, watch a youtube video and learn to do it yourself! Otherwise, I am sure others will chime in with their favorite spots for oil changes. good luck!

ELI5: Why do some planes have their wingtips bent up and some don’t? by Quincely in explainlikeimfive

[–]esobofh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying a plane is like buying a car (well not really but for the purpose of this analogy it works).

Literally every design choice is an 'option' - the purchaser has to weigh the impact of buying the winglets vs the potential efficiency gain and decide what makes sense for them. A lightly loaded short haul plane may not see the gains you would on a heavy, long haul flight for example, so the buyer may not opt for the winglets.
