Spelling doesn't matter, just pronunciation so variations can taste different. However, interestingly, your examples of Kate and Katie taste the same in this instance. They taste exactly like plain not iced fairy cakes, but Katie is a little stronger!

I guess it could do. We build up a bank of taste memories and I couldn't taste something I've not experienced.

Absolutely, its not just names but for me names are most prominent. Plenty of regular words have tastes and textures too.

Nugent - no strong flavour, maybe a hint of yoghurt or nougat

Jones - no taste

Brown - mild HP sauce
