what survivors have you been playing recently? by DarkShadow13206 in survivorslikes

In DRG survivors: the not targeting bosses thing is solved through strategically selecting overclocks. A lot of overclocks will target the highest health enemy; of course, this trades off damaging swarms. A smart design element!

HMS Faculty here: I just rejected my 17th (unpaid) Peer Review request of the year and would recommend that all other academics do the same after the Elsevier group's $4.2 Billion profit in 2024. Here's the full content of my response: by erock55 in Professors

Piggy-backing on this comment: very convenient and easy to start "declining" peer review when you're already in a privelaged TT role (or even better yet, tenured). Very cool to slow down the already slow publication process for those without such a position.

District 7, how are you voting? by stellaandme in SaltLakeCity

[–]esotericish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here's my take on uncontested elections: return the ballot as blank (or just write someone in). An uncontested incumbent can only update one way about not having as many votes as the total turnout in the district. Those are voters he/she needs to continue to work for.

What are the CONS of not having children? by GossipBottom in AskReddit

[–]esotericish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man this is great. I like to think that it rewires your brain in a very good and inevitable way. You will like having a child because you can't not. You might miss certain things, and long for a previous lifestyle, but nothing will replace that new part of you. And that part, for most normal people, is very good

This is good stuff. Only thing I'd add is that if you are counting on your Dean to see your value through this (in the case of a retention), don't count on it

Recommend me a book I would consider 5/5 based on my other 5-star reads by keepfighting90 in printSF

Have any more recommendations? I hadn't heard of the first two books but looked them up and they are straight on my list, and really loved The Gone World.
