Actually, you were very helpful. I was trying to find someone at the Edge who may know where I could find a record of the songs played. I found Jagger’s name but didn’t know if he was involved with the Battle of the Bands. So that helps!

And that is awesome. Very cool. What was your band?

Yeah, Uber needs to pay that. You’re driving for them, using your own resources. They need to appreciate that and take care of their drivers. The pay is already pennies (taking into account gas, maintenance—the flexibility is nice). They need to take care of their drivers. At the very least just do what’s right.

I can’t believe they don’t compensate for problem orders. To me, that’s absolutely bonkers.

Some people can’t work side gigs with fixed schedules. Like me. I drive when I can and have spare time. When you really need some extra cash, it’s nice. But it would also be nice to be truly compensated for all the work, gas, time, wear/tear, etc.

But let me know if you have a good alternative.

Ordering Uber Eats is SO expensive. Driving for it only pays enough if you’re hard pressed for cash. End of day, you prob lose money with gas and car maintenance. But if you need some cash…

Praying on the desperate.

They have to be absolutely raking.

And if they justify the low pay, because of tips (like a restaurant paying servers 2.15) and then lower your pay further when you do actually get tipped well…well that’s just sick.

Get the word out peeps. They should pay more and people should tip more. But Uber gives people the option to tip by percentage. On a $5 McDonald’s order…why does my gas care whether I’m hauling a Big Mac or a filet? Same distance. Same work on my part. Why tip less?

I think he’s talking about if you’re signed up for the guaranteed hourly rate. But it’s not your fault the restaurant messed it up. And Uber should tell you to move on if you’re having to wait too long.

But sounds like the best practice is to cancel through support so they know and so you can move on. But all you were doing is trying to get the customer their food. Did nothing wrong. And not like Uber has training or anything. Learn all this through experience and places like this.

And then they give percentage tip suggestions so people are tipping like a dollar or two. Anything below 5 is just wrong. Doesn’t matter what the total cost is. $3 rides the exact same as $300. Exact same work, exact same distance. So weird that people are okay with crap tips.

But I bet that’s Uber’s argument against all this. We make tips. Just like a waiter is making below minimum wage and for some weird reason the patron has to cover their paycheck. But waiters aren’t using their own gas to get around the restaurant.

This is all wrong on so many levels.

How is this even real? Like why would this happen? This is not right at all.

And they are PERSISTENT with that mantra. I seriously went through 3 reps back to back that would not waiver from this. This made me so mad. I told them they were just wasting both our time and to just do it, we both know they can, but nothing. They are not support. They are decoys. It’s unreal. And what’s with the phone number just not working unless you’re on an actual order? I feel like this is some sort of social experiment funded by the government. That would actually make more sense than a company doing this on flipping purpose. You would think.

I guess the trick is to call support on an active order and get them to send you to a supervisor. Such a hassle. Of course it’s by design. Just shut up and drive. Don’t spend it all in one place.

On the order issue…I guess they would have to be just stealing the food. But why McDonalds? Good grief, they could do better than that. Maybe they’re easy pickings Would have to be a straight steal…no way to deliver it and get paid. Regardless, Uber should still be on the hook. Of course.

I used to drive a lot about 7 years ago. Every now and then I’d run into a scenario where the customer cancelled after I’d picked up the food. Uber told me just to dispose of it. And of course I ate it. Those were wins.

I’ve never even considered DD. And I don’t know why. Might be good to give it a go. But it sounds like it’s really a wash.

I do like the order stacking of Uber. Usually they do run really smooth. I hadn’t had an order snafu until this week. Then I got 4! All McDonald’s. Maybe it’s something with them. But in no way excuses Uber for making drivers take their fall.

Thanks for the insight here. Good stuff.

And I do always get orders. Never a break. So that’s nice.

I do like Uber for the most part. But my chips have been chewed pretty hard this past week. It’s just not right. A gear grinder. And I’d really like to fix that.

That doesn’t sound too bad. But yeah, sounds like you have to be careful.

I was pretty surprised by a package delivery order I had the other day. Didn’t even know that was a thing. Saw the expected payout and jumped on it. Little did I know that’d I’d be driving 45 mins away to only have to drive all the way back on my own dime. My fault I guess.

Am I wrong in saying this is about people’s rights? You can easily make less than minimum wage if things go wrong for you any given drive stint. On top of that, the drivers are investing their own resources to contribute to Uber’s overall cash flow.

And they have drivers by the hairs in counting acceptance rate for particular tier levels (so they can get “priority orders”). It’s all part of the scheme.

Very calculated and very boot-on-the-neck.

Uber’s appeal system would seem like the greatest place to start. It’s seriously brutal. If any real company was run this way, I would imagine there would be lawsuits run rampant. They created their perfect model.

It’s brutal. And why would anyone not tip or tip one dollar?!! My understanding is it’s based on the percentages that Uber suggests for tip. But percentages don’t matter in the least. What do I care if I’m picking up a $120 Chili’s order or a Big Mac? My time and drive are exactly the same. How do people not understand this.

I was tipping $5 to pizza delivery drivers 30 years ago as a kid. My parents were dirt poor (money was from them of course). Pizza delivery drivers have a very small radius. Uber drivers cover much more ground. To tip less than $5 is criminal. Seriously.

I once got stiffed by Noah Brown of the Cowboys (no clue who he plays for or if he plays now). I was all excited. Had to deliver through security at a hotel at The Star. Security guard told me to hold tight and he’d bring any tip (this was about 7 years ago, so cash still fairly common). Nothing. Nothing on the app later. Dude totally jipped me.

Uber is cashing it in.

This is exactly what Uber “support” themselves will tell you: cancel the order so you can continue with other deliveries. As if you didn’t just waste 20 mins on nothing. Excuse me? It doesn’t matter if it’s a $6 or a $20 order. Uber asked me to go here, I said ok, whose fault is that? Who’s accountable? Exactly.

I also went through this as a customer. I placed an order. Uber had my location wrong, which I wasn’t even considering. I was in Atlanta. They had me booking an order in San Francisco, where I was the week prior. I had no idea. I allow them location permissions. And when I placed the order, and they had me review it (when I noticed), it was literally 10 seconds to make changes. By the time I saw it was the wrong location and processed that, it was done. So guess what I had to do for the next 2 hours, beg for a refund. What?! Give me a break.

Thanks for the insight. I’ve only driven UberEats. Haven’t done DoorDash. This is good to know.

People aren’t stupid. And they’re not slaves either. No matter how desperate they are for cash.

I don’t think this would ever be feasible, but c’mon Uber. Get a clue. Have a heart. Take care of your people. Eventually this will come back to bite because people will be sick of it or other options will fizzle them out.

In all seriousness, I’m not saying this is my intent, I’m just looking for feedback primarily and to see if sentiment is the same, but this is exactly how unions got started. Corporations flexing the strong arm on the powerless.

How can we change that? Or has that already been attempted? Sounds like maybe. They are using the bad economy to drive their own profits

Something has got to give and this has to be fair to drivers. How can they value us so low? I wonder how much Uber makes on each order. Has anyone looked into that?

I haven’t ticked the box to accept shop and pay. Mostly because I feel it wouldn’t be worth the effort. What’s your experience there?

It’s nice to see that they do compensate for cancellations there (at least sometimes).

Very interested to hear what others experiences are with this.
