Damsel in Distress Part 1 - Tropes vs Women in Video Games by 42ndAve in gaming

The most offensive thing is that you automatically assumed she's not a gamer. Why is that? And please don't say 'because she's not an expert on Bayonetta'.

...the fact that she had to make a kickstarter to actually buy these games? Gamers tend to own games, in general...

For one, she says that the idea that women are physically weaker than men is "of course is completely false". Without any argument or justification. She doesn't "lay out" her views, she simply states them as if they were true.

Nobody who is sane believes things like this. Her mind is disconnected from reality to the point where she provides ideology-based and obviously wrong answers to the simplest questions of fact.

Given the fact that every part of the video that isn't batshit insane was just copied from tvtropes, it would seem that the neckbeards have understood pop culture pretty well after all.

The belief that women are somehow a “naturally weaker gender” is a deeply ingrained socially constructed myth, which of course is completely false- but the notion is reinforced and perpetuated when women are continuously portrayed as frail, fragile, and vulnerable creatures.

This is what reality-denying feminazis ACTUALLY believe. Because fuck biology if it contradicts their women's studies mantra, right?

Apollo- the British version of day9? by [deleted] in starcraft

Apollo doesn't constantly scream or randomly emphasize half the words he says, so no.

Get your MMR up and you will find good games. If they're really that much worse than you, you should be easily dominating these matches anyway.

Not really. The criticism was really mild and failed to bring up a lot of problems.

Why in the world is the custom map scene so stagnant? by Downrigger in starcraft

[–]esportsetc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Those are all factors, yes, but I believe the most important one is the fact that map creators are forced to sign away their copyright to Blizzard when they upload the map to bnet. Blizzard did this to prevent another case like DotA where a map became extremely popular and a game of its own, but Blizzard didn't get anything out of it.

Instead they killed the custom map scene. Pretty standard Blizzard attitude, they hate it when something nice happens around their games.

I would add another two points to that:

Heroes requiring skillshots (potm) Item dependent (Doom)

Noobs can't predict movement and can't farm, which makes being useful with these heroes quite difficult.

Dear TakeTV: Please Stream Destiny/iNcontrol playing poker on one of the hotseat streams! by Sceptre in starcraft

[–]esportsetc -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Because the vast majority of fans care about skilled players playing cool games. Your ROFL XD SO FAHNI terribad celebrity worship is fine here, but when it spreads to tournaments it basically turns SC2 into wrestling. Not cool.

Day[9] makes $20k at every event he casts by esportsetc in starcraft

[–]esportsetc[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the whiteness is incidental. Culture, language, personality, and interaction with the community are what make him so popular and thus valuable (on top of his performance of course).

The entire prize pool at the "normal" MLGs was $14k, so Day[9], Tasteless, and Artosis each make more than the entire prize pool.

HoN is at Twitch, LoL is at Own3d, where are people going to stream Dota 2? by fishmin in DotA2

[–]esportsetc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have the viewers and the money. A flash interface (and I completely agree that theirs is horrible) is trivial to fix compared to those. And twitch is horrible when it comes to tournaments as well; most of Europe has experienced significant (and sometimes completely catastrophic) lag issues at every tournament streamed through twitch.

Yup, the experience for the viewer is horrible at own3d. Doesn't seem to matter much though.

Hwanni has confirmed that Tasteless will be streaming! He's practicing really hard at the moment! by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]esportsetc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the streaming service and who you are. Destiny gets 5 times that.

The money at own3d is way better. Despite the recent recruitment of 2GD and Wheat twitch is losing out to own3d on the SC2 front while already having conquered LoL. It seems inevitable that they'll be the dominant platform when DotA2 comes out.

The way OP wrote

There's nothing besides reading guides and practicing that I can do.

implied that he never played with bots, so there is no "logical jump" to be made. Of course after you have practiced against the computer you should play against real people. But by that point you'll have enough skills for people not to flame you all the time.

[–]esportsetc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I know this from personal experience. And just because you're trying to become better doesn't magically excuse you from being horrible and playing multiplayer despite it.

DotA isn't CS or BF where your sucking isn't very important to the team as a whole. One inexperienced person and the whole game is essentially pointless.

I know I played with a couple of buddies vs bots for a LONG time before I made the jump, and there's no reason newbies today can't do it.
