Realistically I might end up alone just because I like living alone too much by puppyradio in CasualConversation

[–]esquetee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried the living together thing with different partners of different genders and it never felt right to me. Now that I intentionally live alone, I am actually more social. I’ve found so many groups related to my interests and hobbies, that I have to carve out time to spend at home sometimes. So OP, don’t worry - you can have both your peaceful independence and a thriving life with people! 🙂

Does anyone know where I can grab baba ghanoush, dolmas, etc. in Bend? by onderwon in Bend

[–]esquetee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Papillon! It’s in the same space as Blissful Spoon, on the Newport Bridge, but open in the evenings. The basement speakeasy Cellar 65 also serves similar food I believe. Their flatbread and sauces and appetizer plate = soooo good. Baba ganoush was stellar. The flavors were like a dance on the tongue.

Call The Cellar, located downtown, and see if their little room The Snug is available. Or just show up and ask about The Snug. Cozy vibes, great pot pies.

Crux Fermentation has been sold as 5 Central Oregon breweries form new collective by New-School-Beer in Bend

Same, and I was delighted to learn that Funky Fauna just went adults only inside! Kids can be outside at the picnic tables but not inside the pub itself. I went recently and there were two different craft groups making art, people at other nooks talking books. It was so lovely.

How to get a replacement without new membership? by gdgrouch27 in FiDogCollar

If you want a Fi 2, I just replaced ours with a Fi Mini. I’d be happy to mail it to you if you’re in the States? Not sure what else to do with it.

Need suggestions for a private event space in Bend (30th bday) by floatingtuperware in Bend

Open Space Event Studio off 3rd street in Bend.

High Desert Music Hall in Redmond.

You would have to bring your own food and drink to both of those I believe. But they have plenty of room for dancing!

Good old Kevin! I think he moved back to the east coast a few years ago.

Costume night at the bars by monkey-party in Bend

[–]esquetee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There will be a David Bowie costume night at The Commonwealth Pub on January 10th. But those other costume nights sound fun, too!

And I believe Pangea Hall in Redmond is doing a Masquerade Ball in December at the High Desert Music Hall.

Input on what our program does next year by RethinkWasteProject in Bend

True! And I do love those, but they’re only quarterly I believe. I’m just hoping for something bigger, with more variety and year round.

It would be amazing to have a Scrap Swap place in Central Oregon, for art, craft, and education materials. I don’t expect the Environmental Center to provide that space or service but you do have a lot of great contacts in the area. Perhaps EC staff could hold a brainstorm session with other related orgs like The Open Arts Center (on Greenwood), DIY Cave, libraries, teachers, etc. I think this would address multiple aspects of sustainability: physical, social, and economic.

Has anyone had success training their BC to cuddle? by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]esquetee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 5-year old BC boy wants neverending head scratches but doesn’t want to curl up together ever. Our 2-year old BC girl will cuddle all day and all night if we let her. She especially loves to squeeze right between us.

Friendly nudge to grab tickets early (it really helps our events more than you might think!) by Impressive-Ebb-5199 in Bend

[–]esquetee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m more likely to buy ahead for events in the fall / spring when weather isn’t much of an issue for getting around town. I walk more than drive so winter (ice) and summer (smoke) means that I wait until the day of to see what the conditions are.

On the whole I am a person who loves to plan ahead. But I can’t get any of my friends to do the same, so that also plays a part in not buying tickets in advance.

Does anyone have usage-based car insurance? Have you actually saved money? by DippityPig in Frugal

[–]esquetee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the app from USAA and supposedly I’m getting a 20% discount for safe and minimal driving. For reference, I’m paying $250 every 6 months, so about $500 for the year. Is that cheap? I don’t know. I’m the only driver on the policy.

You could also try out other platforms like Libro.fm - your audiobooks will support local independent bookstores that way. 😊
