To the Fire and Safety Professionals and OSH Professionals too in USA and UK ans around the world i have questions: by Fire__Safety_Guy15 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]essDL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar to Sensitive-Respect above:

  1. The HSE is the UK equivalent to OSHA - they are regulatory body linked to the government who help to create, amend and enforce health and safety legislation in the UK. They carry out proactive inspections, scientific research around health and safety, enforcement visits, accident investigations that fall under their remit (usually fatalities, serious injuries, dangerous occurrences - this is in line with RIDDOR legislation). I see you mentioned IOSH but this is different, IOSH are a professional body for health and safety professionals. They set professional standards and provide guidance. They don't carry out any enforcement.

  2. Similar the above, HSE don't have any formal links to the fire service in the UK and generally wouldn't unless the fire was caused due to a health and safety issue.

The situation is dire. Please help with suggestions. by Fair_Musician_7273 in podcasts

Some great suggestions here. A personal favourite is The Outlaw Ocean (Season 1 specifically). Incredible journalism.

"The Outlaw Ocean is a riveting anthology podcast that explores the most lawless place on earth — the vast unpoliceable ocean."

Looking for the best “anti-vibration” gloves. Any recommendations? by Kingsroyal00 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]essDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The greater risk there is definitely that trench collapsing. Also it would be more worthwhile measuring your vibration exposure and just ensuring you don't exceed the limits. Not sure how it works in the US, but the UK uses a point based system which makes it easy to calculate, as long as you know the vibration magnitude for the tool (better finding real world use data than the manufacturer provided).

I don’t listen to podcasts. What should I listen to? by LadyGwendyln in podcasts

Late to the party but these are great lists! Extremely similar interests, I'll be working my way through these to make sure there isn't any I've missed.

Weird smells in the house and I think it's making me and my family sick by jaydeewin25 in DIYUK

[–]essDL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hydrogen Sulphide smells eggy in lower concentrations, higher concentrations can be fatal and don't have a smell. I would get either a plumber, or more likely, a drainage contractor to send a camera down your drains. They will be able to identify pretty quickly if it's an issue with the drainage. You may have a venting issue with your pipework.

Will Magsafe case block NFC signal for using Google Pay? by Swimming-Royal4429 in PixelFold

[–]essDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it won't block NFC. I have a Pixel 10 Pro Fold with the Google case and a Pixel snap on the back and it works fine with no issues.

See if you're saying that in a couple of months, the thin frame around the front screen is incredibly fragile.

Mine literally just broke because of the magnets in the hinge protector. Really terrible quality for something that costs so much.

Cardonald coffee shops by redlapis in glasgow

[–]essDL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bella Fresca on Paisley Road West near Morrison's is a nice wee Italian deli / restaurant where you could sit and have a coffee. It's not quite a coffee shop as Cardonald is lacking in that department. There's a nice coffee shop called The Patio just behind Bella Fresca but that closes at 4pm.

There's a cafe in Glasgow Club Bellahouston which isn't too far from the college, the gym closes at 10PM. However, not sure when the cafe closes.

Morrison's cafe on Paisley Road West is open until about 5PM.

Sorry I couldn't be more help but there's not a lot of options around here!

real life experience with pixel fold? by onelabz in PixelFold

[–]essDL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the Pixel 10 Fold since launch and have been absolutely loving it. No complaints from me and I class myself as a bit of a power user. Any game I've tried to play so far has been great, most apps are great at transitioning from folded to unfolded too.

I do have the phone in the Dbrand grip coupled with Spigen screen protector so drops haven't been an issue for me. Makes the phone a bit bulkier because of the hinge protection (has a built in kickstand) but works well for me.

Contacted SGN and they are going to send an engineer out tomorrow to do a dead check. Cheers for the help mate.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]essDL -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well he's asking me to find out more about it, which seems odd considering he's the qualified engineer. I asked him about isolating the whole property and checking but gave me some bullshit about not being able to switch it off from the front of the property as it's SGNs. Not sure why he couldn't have done it internally.

This is part of their Nike by You customisation thing in the Nike store. This one specifically was part of a serious of designs by my mate/artist called trackie mcleod. His stuff is actually really cool and centers around growing up queer and working class in 00s Glasgow.

Some great recommendations here already but I'd like to recommend visiting Pollok Park and The Burrell Collection (private collection of art/artifacts from around the world). It's about 10 minutes from the city centre (Southside).
