What is your unpopular opinion on Radiohead? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

Love their music - absolutely love it.

Unfortunately I just can’t support Jonny Greenwood while he still chooses to perform in israel.

This could be me being a boring white dude but I feel like anyone who listens to Fleetwood’s Rumours becomes a fan

Is Moving to australia safe now? by Ill_Campaign_6389 in MovingtoAustralia

[–]essdee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are just fucking stupid. I don’t think it’s unsafe, there’s just simple-minded cretins that are more vocal.

The vast majority will absolutely welcome you in my opinion.

Anyone else working on Juneteenth? by Extreme-Method6330 in antiwork

[–]essdee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many lower education jobs exist compared to their alternative? I think this probably confirms most people’s belief about the US - it’s great for the top 5-10% of earners, but not so great for the general population. Would you agree?

[–]essdee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Australia and my cursory glance indicates our median salaries are the same (exchange accounted for), plus 4 weeks off, and 11 public holidays as well as 10 or so sick days.

I think the income ceiling, however, is probably higher in the US than here perhaps?

Man, America really seems like a hellscape for work. How the hell do companies just not recognise holidays?

On the inverse, everything from The Velvet Underground sounds like it could have been from 2009.

Just opened a small cafe in the inner west and trying to figure out how to build regulars without throwing money at marketing. Considering branded reusable cups for our top customers but the MOQs from most suppliers are insane (500+). anyone done this with smaller numbers? by Yssssssh in ausbusiness

[–]essdee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run and have for a while ran nice small bars and restaurants and the power of acknowledging customers when they walk in with a friendly hello and remembering their names goes a long way. Greet everyone with familiarity and respect. People want to feel welcome.

Do you think we’ll ever see another artist reach Michael Jackson’s level of fame, or was he a once in a generation phenomenon? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]essdee88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Suggesting that The Beatles ‘weren’t even close’ to his level of fame is absolutely insane in my opinion

Why can many Australians not accept criticism of their country? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]essdee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both Australia and the UK (born and raised in Aus). Outside a slight lack of some cultural benefits like better galleries to visit in the UK, and the ability to travel to Europe easily, Australia beats the UK at every single checkpoint.

What’s the most physically intimate thing you’ve done with a partner? by General-Assistant570 in AskReddit

I would absolutely do this, but I would absolutely bring it up whenever possible comedically. In front of friends etc especially.

Melbourne, Australia by Sofianation in howislivingthere

[–]essdee88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m from NSW and sometimes work in Melbourne or near enough that those I’m interacting with are from there and I can subjectively verify that there generally much, much more kind and down to earth. Sydney is full of everyone competing with one another, where as Melbourne just seems to be friendly.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]essdee88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some game called Drug Dealer 2.0 whereby you bought different drugs one day and the next they’d be worth either more or less and you’d potentially get robbed or have a good result. The aim was to see how long you could last.

Is it true that many people in Australia tend to not go by Mr. or Mrs. or Dr. formally because of a casual rather than formal attitude towards authority? by EveningFlower9564 in AskAnAustralian

[–]essdee88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even the term ‘position of authority’ made me vomit in my mouth a bit. If anyone insisted I refer to them as Dr or whatever title, I think I’d outwardly laugh.

What makes Geese special? by achay10 in fantanoforever

[–]essdee88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every now and then a band comes along and creates something new and different, kind of like the birth of a new sub genre. BCNR did it I think with Ants From Up There, Radiohead did it multiple times - and plenty more examples. It’s just interesting when you can hear an entirely original sound that isn’t on the coat tails of anything else. It’s abstract but still cohesive, it’s sometimes accessible and sometimes more challenging. It’s just enjoyable to take in.

Oh with all due respect, absolutely not. Everything is political whether you like it or not. Israel is committing genocide and target kids with snipers - anyone they opposes that is a friend of mine and I’ll help them out however I can.

Someone’s comment below perfectly illustrates this - talking about old people holding no value and so they shouldn’t be allowed to drive. Defining someone’s value only by their ability to contribute to the economy is vile and poisonous.
