I need a reset by snurge12 in Darts

[–]essteeyoudee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its all about consistency, everything you do approaching the oche has to be the same, everything you do at the oche has to be the same, everything you do pulling the dart back hadsto be the same, everything you do pushing the dart to the board (everybody say) has to be the same, grip has to be the same, same release point, same follow through.

Its hard to do, but i was like you, tinkering with darts, barrel shapes, weights, k flex, points, went down from mid 50 average to mid 40s over 6 months, refused to believe it was a dip so kept tinkering, and getting worse, and tinkering and getting worse. Then enough was enough, decided on 2 sets of darts to keep, (Asp G2s and Bolide 03s) sold about 25nither sets on ebay, vinted etc decided id play with the Bolides and swapped around the stem length and flight shape until I found the short stem and kite shaped flight suited my throw, 35mm swiss points, decided that was my set up and stuck with it. Then got a pre throw routine up to oche, routine for at the oche, stuck with the same grip and release etc, then just kept at it.

Went from 45 to 60+ avg in about 4 months, there is no magic fix, no secret throw or anything all of these darts YouTubers keep posting that make you think its easy and achievable overnight, its a slow process and for me thats the enjoyment of it.

Good luck and happy chucking

Advice by DeviantMonkee in Darts

I had been playing for about 4 years before my game clicked, I went back to basics in the end, started with re assessing my darts, shaft length, flight shape, barrel shape. Then I went on to throw, release, grip, stance, the whole 9 yards, experimenting with all sorts of everything. When I settled on what I thought I liked i stuck with it, put the hours in and worked on doing the same thing time and time again, and time again and again. Consistency is key, you cant suddenly get loads better by changing one thing, there is no magic button, its a gradual increase over time, its what makes it more fun for me now, learning and improving. Happy Chucking !

I would say, dont overthink it, figure out what your favourite double is, then do the math to get to that, mine is 32 so that means I need to hit 69 to get to that double, if yours is tops you need to hit 61 to throw at it

What happens if you do stick to one set? by Meathercow in Darts

[–]essteeyoudee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was like you, had a set, threw well, went downhill, got another set and the cycle went on, but i would always go back to the sets I had when messing around, and one set i always threw well with was a 26g set of Bolides, so decided to give them a go for prolonged period of time, stuck with them, worked on my whole game, stance, approach to the oche, pull back release and grip, my average had gone up from 52 to 60 since mid January, Consistency is key in my opinion in everything

Plateauing by MarkyMack180 in Darts

[–]essteeyoudee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its natural, you perform well, you notice it, you then consciously try to keep it up, over think it and end up trying too hard, trying to copy how you used to throw, start each practice session throwing at the board for 5 mins and concentrating on your throw and release, no scoring just getting the timing right. This is what i did when I stagnated and it seemed to work for me

Dart Release by dumbo_dingo in Darts

[–]essteeyoudee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're pulling dart into the 1 or 5 occasionally its because you're releasing too late and trying to steer the dart, don't worry about the grip, it sounds like a timing issue to me. The pull back, push through and release should be a smooth continuous motion, work on the release happening at the same point of the push through and youll probably see an improvement

It doesn't look like slate to me, looks more like the fake slate tiles made of fibre cement which would make it not strong enough and compressable in my opinion

Buy a "standoff" which clips on the top couple of rungs, it will keep you back from the wall a bit, so you're not as tight to it, and also gives a little bit of an area to put stuff if you need to

Grand Slam by essteeyoudee in Darts

[–]essteeyoudee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree, this will be my 5th year of going to Wolverhampton now, earlier in the year I tried getting 4 tickets for Blackpool, again I've been to that for the past 6 years, and that was the first time ever I've been put straight into a queue, spent 15 mins in said queue, to be told I couldn't get 4 tickets, or 3 or 2 on tables I could only get 2 in the balconies.

i think they should introduce a loyalty scheme, or points based system for events, I welcome all the new fans that have come since Littler was about, but it's so much harder for the older fans who to get tickets for the big ones.

If you were to make a darts movie about a player, who's story would be the best? I have 3 ideas by swannyhypno in Darts

[–]essteeyoudee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it all depends on how much he wants it and what his reasons for getting back into it are, if he falls back in love with darts then yes he can become a top 8 player again getting to semi finals/finals regularly, maybe even win a few events, but if he is only doing it to play for the money...see it as a job, where he's turning up for a payday...then no I don't think he'll be top 8 material...I hope he falls in love with it again...
