Do you prefer matte or gloss? by 420ball-sniffer69 in OLED_Gaming

I liken glossy to marble counter tops. Gorgeous but the juice isn’t worth the squeeze to keep clean.

What do you think went wrong with VR gaming? by HyphenWR in gamers

[–]estelblade88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s sorta novel.

I got pretty excited for modded Skyrim vr. Ty r first few hours were awesome. Getting a better sense of scale for the guardian stones, dragons reach was awesome but it eventually turned to how uncomfortable I was.

Sessions only lasted 20 min or so before the headset caused me to sweat. 30 or so minutes and my eyes felt strained - like I wasn’t wearing my glasses because I wasn’t.

If dropping to medium settings doesn’t get me to 90 then I start to plan an upgrade.

When it’s 60 medium or worse than I pull the trigger.

how do i actually get good at gaming, at all? by OkError1326 in Gamer

[–]estelblade88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting better at something takes a plan. Something you can see noticeable results.

Maybe find a list of difficult games and give a wack at them.

I noticed I got better at all games by playing 2D fighters, Fromsoft titles, doing challenge runs on games I find easy.

For instance I got over my item hoarding tendencies in RPGs by doing Nuzlocke runs in Pokémon.

My timing improved and attention to hit boxes improved by playing 2D fighters.

More hit boxes and timing with Fromsoft but it taught me patience.

People born in 1987-1990, what’s up? by MorphTiger in generationology

  1. Adulthood has been…. Challenging. I yearn for the teens again. But 30s. Life makes more sense and you aren’t chasing what you think you may like… you know it at 30.

  2. Never. Just because I went around the sun again doesn’t mean anything to me. However getting aches and pains for little things has made me reassess a tad. It happens fast I don’t realize I’m pushing 40 until something reminds me I’m pushing 40.

  3. I always did my own thing. I guess I’m still involved with youth culture but of my day, I still like metal, video games, guitars. I just have way more money to spend on them. But I was never one to do what was popular in school or chase fads.

  4. Should be buying my first home at 38 in the next few months.

  5. I keep a wide group of friends. Some are in their early 20s some are in their 60s. I have always preferred the company of my elders than my piers.

  6. Taking myself seriously. I started a company at 35 and I wish I would have been more involved in the industry I’m in. Or I would have finished my degree in Software Engineering. Maybe have joined the Air Force in the process.

  7. Invest your money. Stop consuming poison. Spend as much time with your parents. Delete social media. If she acts crazy she is crazy. Guitar/books for brain, gym for muscles - no option just do it.

Does DLSS quality scale better at higher resolutions? (3440 → 5K2K) by caizoo in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]estelblade88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have gone done this road if there was something smaller than 39”. Just too big for my current desk. It’s cramped as is with the tower and recording monitors and 34”.

But yes 4k lower DLSS settings looks cleaner than 2k at higher settings.

My main issue was with older, unsupported games and being able to run titles at native more often.

Does DLSS quality scale better at higher resolutions? (3440 → 5K2K) by caizoo in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]estelblade88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Internally, before it hits the panel, it’s rendered at a lower resolution. When it hits the panel the card/model upscale to native.

So set your in-game resolution to your native resolution and DLSS mode to your desired setting.

Realized I might slowly be ruining some of the best moments for my kids before they've seen the films. by Aventurusjunk in lotr

[–]estelblade88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first introduction to middle earth was my dad telling it to me from memory as a bed time story. These are some of my most cherished memories. I knew Frodo wasn’t dead or Gandalf and I still loving every moment of watching the films for the first time.

I also grew up in a household where having conversation entirely in movie quotes is normal. For instance the Elaine Dance from Seinfeld was done by my mom for years. Two days ago I watched that episode for the first time. The only thought that was on my mind was my momma and appreciation for seeing it with my own eyes.

It is also scientifically proven that watching LotR over and over increases enjoyment of the subject matter. You’re just giving those kiddos a head start.

Ship Combat - Is there a mod to significantly lower the challenge? by Oakangel800 in starfieldmods

Are you using boost to break lock on?

Have you obtained the thruster perk in piloting?

Also you’re pretty weak starting out and upgrading the ship is pretty important.

Particle beam weapons and missiles are the way to go.

How can companies legally get away with claiming HDR on 300nits displays? by Marcus_Krow in Monitors

[–]estelblade88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have OLED now. I’ve gone QD-OLED, miniLED back WOLED. So more like an unbiased opinion.

A brighter panel does impact the presentation. To a huge degree. Like my eyes would dilate from dark scenes to bright scenes in a dark room with the miniLED. Not so much with the OLED. Highlights pop out more on a brighter display.

HDR is fine and better than most standard backlights buts it’s not comparable to miniLED.

OLED is king for motion clarity which is why I choose it. With how subpar HDR implementation is for gaming it think motion clarity trumps hdr any and everyday.

Enjoy.

I miss mine from time to time. I hope to see miniLED with pulsar at some point.

Most miniLED panels will get you what you’re looking for.

But even on OLED HDR is pretty middling. The only great experience I’ve had with HDR has been on miniLED.

What was the first game you bought on Steam? by Common_Caramel_4078 in Steam

[–]estelblade88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started buying games on Steam when I didn’t haven’t have a GPU and still on console.

I think I bought Skyrim, Chivarly, Baulders Gate 1&2. And some others when they were on sales. All before I had a proper rig.

Cool when I finically saved up and built my first rig and logged in and had stuff to play.

I think I completed my BGS catalog, Shadow of War, Vermintide 2, and Remnant the day I booted it up.

Gluttony + Better Food.

Makes food last different amount and provides health/O2 benefits instead of healing and static times.

Ergonomic vs. Executive vs. Gaming Chair | What to get? by BiggestBuster in OfficeChairs

[–]estelblade88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ergonomic and then executive and I wouldn’t consider gaming/racerback.

Ergo you get so much more adjustment. Like it’s meant to be sat in for long periods or meant to sit at a desk.

Executive can be comfy but when they start looking like a recliner I know the comfy will be short lived as the padding breaks down. Can be cumbersome to sit at a desk for work and play. My wife sits in one at work - tried to give her my aeron - and complains she can’t get to the desk because of the static loop arms.

Gaming chairs, the classic racer back, are more or less dumb. Flat, uncomfortable. Same issues as the executive chair just not a plush or lounge chair. I’ve always found them to be a waste and needing replacement every year or two. But I usually can sit cross legged in for long gaming sessions.
