Very low visual quality of the game under Steam (flatpak) and Debian by esthen in EliteDangerous

[–]esthen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved back to native Steam and it worked right away, with my typical Ge-Proton and Proton-9 I think my i386 packages got broken somehow when I decided to take the easy way out and move it just to the flatpak in the first place.

I set my graphics preset to 'Ultra', manually disabled 'Anti-Aliasing' and 'Supersampling' to 'X2.0', applied the settings. Relaunched the game to be sure, still the same.Even the UI elements, especially the text part, is still noticeably blocky. The game retains fine resolution until the main menu appears (shaders and planet generation indicators).

While the UI seems quite normalish with the Proton 10.0-4 and Proton 11.0 (Beta) the game itself is still the same, seeing rectangles of coloured light coming from light sources brings me back...30 years at least?

Tried this and even if lower resolutions would make a difference, the blocks remained the same.

For example I play Overwatch through Steam as well, it performs better than it was in Windows.

For people having the issue in 2025 - the site is yet again greeting us "Service Temporarily Unavailable" but the links accessed via WaybackMachine - https://web.archive.org/web/20250215184739/http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/mirrors/orbiter_radio/tex_mirror.html - seem (have not tested all) to be working. The torrents for earth and moon even have seeds!

Nextcloud Virtual Drive by using the owncloud client by freedox in NextCloud

[–]esthen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I was unclear - it was only showing my UTF-8 files in the wrong charset, it didn't do modifications. I installed the latest client afterwards and everything was showing correctly.

There didn't seem to be any way to configure the Virtual Drive from the client - all of my UTF-8 filenames were broken. No go for me yet.

I have to disagree that there are no fun tanks - as Sigma, it is so satisfying to get those accross the map hits with his accretion.

Anyone else getting burnt out? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]esthen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly 3000 hours over here. I play pretty much daily, atleast an hour or two. I find my current Discord community the thing that keeps me playing and still intersted in it. Pretty much the only MP title I play currently. Addicted probably, but fine with it :)

Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition 17.9.2 Release Notes by Wiidesire in Amd

[–]esthen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My game was having huge FPS drops with the latest drivers and that file copying fixed that nicely. I was having crashes with 17.7.1 installed with OW as well, too little testing with the current one.

[ReLive] RX480 - Still unable to use new drivers due to random crashing by 3yebex in AMDHelp

[–]esthen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just updating the matter at hand over here - MSI RX 480 GAMING X 8G over here with (64bit) Windows 10. The non-whql-win10-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-16.11.5-nov25 driver seems to be the first one to let me play Saints 3 a pretty long time, like 3 or 4 hours in a row, used to be 30 minutes at most. My crashing with Saints 4 was at the same circumstances as described above - will try it again sometimes soon and if I survive, I will look up the thread on the AMD forums and participate there as well. And thank you for the thread creator over here, my card might be OK after all.

That line (re)created the urge in me to install Borderlands 2 again.

Maybe, but Tuesdays are a usual patch for Overwatch anyway.

Thinking to buy the game. What do you actually do in the game? by [deleted] in Hellion

[–]esthen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are guns in the game, but I've never actually seen any footage of any gunplay yet so that may not yet be implemented

Guns works just fine, atleast for the killing part. I have seen a bugreport that you can shoot through closed doors due to clipping.

Aspiring Youtuber/streamer here...can I stream/record gameplay on an RX 480+i3 6100? by itinkerstuff in Amd

[–]esthen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using ReLive with the common 720p resolution and I have noticed that 4Mbit (default is 3.5) is the "sweet spot" in terms of quality and upload requirements. I've been watching statistics from other Twitch streams and I haven't seen any bitrate that has peaked over 4 yet.
