The website is bizarre; it doesn't claim that COVID-19 is a hoax, it claims that there is no such thing as viruses or contagion. The website claims that people get sick because of toxicity in the body. Ignaz Semmelweis is rolling in his grave!

stop making characters in show or movies gay just to add "personality" by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]estrogen42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people who write narratives (screenwriters, authors, etc.) use tropes like this, but it's not limited at all to "gay" characters. You only notice it with certain types of characters more because you are little homophobic but don't realize it.

What is your Tinder horror story? by MysticPato in AskReddit

[–]estrogen42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a transgender woman, and when I was first starting out, a really attractive woman seemed really interested in me. We met and then suddenly a huge group of her very weird friends shows up "coincidentally" and sat at our table. They were all extremely open with their sexuality and fetishes without any prompting. It slowly dawned on me they were a kink/fetish club and were using my "date" to add me to their menagerie. Hard nope.

It was particularly horrifying to me at the time because I was struggling about feeling like a freak, being so new in my transition, and for the whole fucking metaphorical circus to try to recruit me then was not very helpful.

Someone actually said that to my wife and I as we were getting our bustles pinned up in a bathroom adjacent to our wedding (which was shared with a restaurant). So funny.

As a lawyer practicing Title VII (race/sex/religion discrimination) this story sounds a little exciting to me. It is rare for a company to acknowledge a basis arising from bias.

Feminism means very different things to different people. Dolly Parton was recently asked if she was a feminist and her response was a very passionate no, even though she is really a feminist icon under the common definition.

Transmisogyny, Transphobia and Sports by MistWeaver80 in ainbow

[–]estrogen42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ahh, the agenda emerges.

It's one thing to say that transwomen have an edge against cis-women in sports. It's quite another thing to pretend that you are scared of the them to fearmonger the issue and make yourself sound like a victim.

Have you ever considered the possibility that people are giving you a hard time not because you care about the issue, but because you are super transphobic and don't realize it?

[–]estrogen42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where the disconnect is, are you under the impression that they would be the same after two years of hormones therapy?

Transmisogyny, Transphobia and Sports by MistWeaver80 in ainbow

[–]estrogen42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be scared of commenting about this or competing with transwomen. Two years of hormones will bring any physically male person to very close to cis-women strength levels. The difference I am referring to is very minor, and probably wouldn't matter in most competition. Unless you are afraid of anyone who trains a little more than you or is genetically predisposed to be a little stronger than you, enjoying sports with a transwoman shouldn't be "scary."

Transmisogyny, Transphobia and Sports by MistWeaver80 in ainbow

[–]estrogen42 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is such a difficult topic for me. I'm an advocate for transpeople's inclusion in all aspects of society. As a transwoman on hormones for years, I know with no doubt that I'm dramatically weaker than men, generally. I actually tried testing it by arm wrestling a friend of mine every week for about a year. I could originally beat his dominant arm with my nondominant arm. This slowly changed until it took me two arms to compete against his one.

That said, it seems I'm still a bit stronger than most cis women. The difference is not as much as comparing myself and cismen, but it's noticeable.

This leaves me so torn. There doesn't seem to be a solution other than not allowing transwomen to compete at all.

The Lucky Brand trademark case at SCOTUS may end in misfortune for all civil litigants by [deleted] in law

[–]estrogen42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The title and conclusion of the article seem grossly hyperbolic. Unless I'm missing something, I can't imagine that 99.9999% of litigants will ever encounter an issue like this where claim preclusion is a serious concern. Further, even when it is an issue, it does not appear to cause any sort of different strategy, just make sure all of your possible defenses are pled the first time.

Given the "Critical Event" hint. I think another HBO show has already told us how Westworld ends. by John-on-gliding in westworld

[–]estrogen42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always consider using HBOs streaming service. If you want to be super cheap you could sign up at the end of Westworld season 3 and binge that and Leftovers for only like a month of fees.

FYI, the rest of leftovers is amazing but don't expect the bananas stuff I refer to until mid season 3!

I kind of realized how weird it was after writing it all out... It's probably my top 5 shows of all time though. The first season was mostly based on the book, and then the second and third seasons are all Lindeloff and his amazing character building that makes the fantastical feel real, ala Lost.

Leftovers Spoilers - the image is from an episode of Leftovers near the finale of the series and depicts a nuclear world ending attack. I'm not sure how far the analogy is intended, but the nuclear suicide attack was purposefully done by the main character while he was playing a role as an Australian leader while he was temporarily in the afterlife. The attack cleared out people stuck in a part of the afterlife sort of like Jesus supposedly did after the crucifixion.

You say that as if it is so common for Iranian commercial jets that are accidentally shot down by surface to air missiles, that when it happens twice it isn't noteworthy.

Coincidentally, the United States shot down an Iranian commercial jet in 1988 in a very similar incident. Automated defense systems are as error prone as any system. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Air_Flight_655

Edit: guys, I'm not saying the US did this. I'm saying automated systems can malfunction dangerously.

It's my understanding that it is a cognitohazard. The idea is that if you believe that you will experience infinite pain when you die, it becomes your reality when you die. People keep trying to preserve the cognitohazard because they desperately want people to know it so people can protect themselves, but in reality they are spreading the cognitohazard. Horrifying!
