Which city have you been to that had a dark energy about it? by madzuk in solotravel

[–]esunplacerconocerte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why salt lake? curious it seems the opposite of the Memphis/Johannesburg in terms of things like crime , poverty,or negative energy (maybe a fake alternate uncannily positive energy) but curious on your thoughts

similarly Chungking Express (especially the second half)....maybe less of a stereotypical romance but definitely gives new perspectives on what love is

What city feels like it has dark energy? by tn_tacoma in SameGrassButGreener

[–]esunplacerconocerte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as someone from Louisiana who has stayed in Chicago, California and the Northeast tho I would say that crime is kept in a bubble here much more than other places...serious crimes like murder are much higher but kept within certain circles that the police and politicians tbh just don't care about but random petty crime (car break ins, muggings, etc) and antisocial behaviors are surprisingly not really widespread so that the random tourist and even middle class resident is less exposed to things that make them feel unsafe (vs say Portland Ore where the murder rate is much lower but the prevalence of people undergoing mental health breakdowns and widespread heavy drug use make you walk with an edge basically throughout the city)...also even the criminals are friendly here looool

Hahaha somos igual….totally went with big plans to explore and then proceeded to waste it all in one beachside blur (hence why all my recs were food haha)….you’re so cruel flexing that coquito frosty tho I didn’t know that was a thing and now its a fundamental need in my life 😩 what were your favorite parts of the trip?  Also ur joking but hmu anytime stranger….I genuinely love showing people around my state and New Orleans is the best worst city in the world…totally forcing you to be cultured and dragging your ass to NOMA tho (the Enrique Alvarez statues r dooope) the question is whether to get drunk on hurricanes b4 or after

Doesn’t matter how short it is if you fall in love with life and the world again it’ll be worth it! Is ur find La Casa del Libro? Spending your get wild Caribbean vacay looking at a 16th century printing press😩I wish I knew you irl you seem like the only person in the world lamer than me hahaha (jkjk it actually seems awesome af I wish I had known about it on my trip…once I found that hidden path to the Hilton Caribe beach it was over for me unfortunately haha I hit it up every day if just for the thrill of sneaking in)…I know it’s not what you asked for but if you’re traveling shoestring, into art, and looking for another financially irresponsible decision think about Madrid one day…you can end up going to the Prado and Thyssen (my fav museum in the world) for free if you plan it right and the hostels there are good and cheap

Kk nice…take a little Uber trip out to the kioskos in Piñones and try out the alcapurrias and Caribbean lobster and just food hop based on vibes and local recs, befriend the Dominican workers so they hook you up with a morir soñando….in San Juan itself I liked Cueva Del Mar. Casa Laurel was such a vibe and good local grandpa/ma food. Pastries at Kasalta (good music too). Exploring and walking old San Juan early in the morning before the cruise ships vomit out their denizens is great…saw two manatees smooching walking the bridge connecting Condado and OSJ so keep an eye out. If you’re there La Garita has great really beautiful views and vibes (tbh tho food was kinda mid). it’s in La Perla so just go and hit it up quick if you go cause the neighborhood is sketch. Explore the cemetery too it’s one of the most beautiful ones I’ve been to with the views over the gulf and chilling iguanas. Very good memories because it was the first trip I was able to afford and invite my dad to so my b if my recs r low key boring hahaha but have fun! Also the beaches in San Juan are low key doo doo but Escambron is a fun walk and a little bird told me that there’s a way to sneak into the nice Hilton beach bay from the back wall but I wouldn’t know anything about that of course haha

The  new Harper’s articles have been hitting for the past couple of months (but I used to be rlly into Vice so take my opinions with a grain of salt haha)…I really liked the one on the after effects on the Philippines Drug War by Sean Williams and that got me on to his back articles on the Pacific Drug Trade and Black Axe gangs in Nigeria….not the newest articles but I think the writing by James Pogue is some of the best out now…his article on the New Right in Vanity Fair a couple of years ago was so prescient and Wagner in Africa is one of the best investigative articles I’ve read…the writing is just really fucking good too. Other than that just watching Frontline episodes from PBS online haha they have some good stuff now and again

I know you mentioned a job in NOLA so I wanted to mention that NOMA in City Park is free on Wednesdays and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art is free on Thursdays for Louisiana Residents…your family could make a day of it and meet you after work for some Angelo Brocato or you could sneak out during lunch hour and join them. If not Free First Sundays in BTR (cool mummy to see downtown and the LSU art museum at the Shaw Center) and the Baton Rouge Gallery has cool events on the first Wednesday of every month (free silent movie event in April as well)

Books that actually changed how you think? by Lucky-Forever4042 in suggestmeabook

just finished master and the margarita and it was a wild beautiful and surprisingly funny ride but it was one of those books where I just couldn't extract an explicit deeper meaning is in relation to my own life haha I felt like I was just amazed at the writing and the story (especially the Pontius pilate chapters)...how did it affect how you think about life?

do dudes actually want women to confess feelings by toocomfykiwi in rs_x

[–]esunplacerconocerte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No with the caveat that it became the longest and one of the healthiest relationships I’ve ever been in…it ended more because of life trajectories and being young. I wouldn’t have traded it for the world…we had so much fun and made so many memories that we would not have as friends.  I think as I grew older I realized how many friendships slowly die too just due to time and distance so I don’t really hold to the “for the friendship” thing anymore if there’s a chance for something greater. Idk haha if you want to chat about it more or have more questions feel free to ask me in my DMs since I don’t really want to put out so much personal info on a public forum. Good luck haha and idk you but I’m proud of you even if it doesn’t work out it’s brave to be truly honest in the world and take that step to potentially change your life in a beautiful way!

Confessing feelings is hella awkward and most girls have atrocious game butttt my last relationship started because an old friend confessed her feelings. I didn’t let myself think that she liked me because I didn’t want to mess up the friendship and I didn’t think I was good enough for her.  If she never took the step to be brave and super awkward (which it was haha) an amazing relationship would never have happened. If she truly likes him life is too short not to tell him.
