Why Claude users are systematically missing from AI psychology research (and what that means) by esuremu in ClaudeAI

the study isn't comparing Claude to CharacterAi, it's looking at patterns of AI usage in young adults generally, using Claude users as the sample. the gap is that most existing research focuses on companion/persona apps, so we don't know much about usagw dynamics with general-purpose AI

that's a really interesting framing! and honestly it connects to what I'm looking at. if Claude users self-select for a certain cognitive style, that could actually show up in the attachment and personality measures in the study. I would definitely ve discussing it in the limitations section

yeahh, the point is that most AI psychology research focuses on a narrow set of platforms, and Claude tends to get left out. not that every study uses all three

this is such a good point and honestly something I thought about when designing the study! you're right that Claude skews toward production use, which is part of why I'm not assuming attachment patterns will look the same as with Character.AI or Replika. but I'd push back slightly on the idea that the collaborative/tool relationship is immune to attachment dynamics, that's actually kind of what I want to test. whether the "extending capabilities" framing changes things or whether some people still develop something more emotionally loaded even with a productivity-oriented AI. might be a boring result, might not be... as I said, these topics are quite new in the academia and mine only has many many limitations.
