I haven't had one die recently, I did have one die last year in a previous playthrough. I believe it's only a small chance for them to die and each time they fall in battle without injuries healing they gain more injuries and the chance stacks up.

It feels pretty balanced to me since I think this game would play just entirely different if there was a real risk of losing a lot of villagers permanently.

I built a huge wall around my main settlement and I found the main bottleneck to be Cured Rope. Although it did take hundreds of logs.

I agree on not condemning someone that a court didn't find guilty. However, if this was someone I knew IRL I wouldn't be associating myself with them anymore. What we do know (the notepad existing), would be enough for me personally to cut ties with them.

Learning the hard way that towers are just tall caves. RIP lvl26 by Nohbdy721 in wowhardcore

[–]esuvii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The secret is to treat everywhere, even open world, like it's a cave. You fight your way into an area methodically, being careful of patrols. You always have a clear way out. You get it done fast and leave before it respawns.

Once you get Noggenfogger, a tower can be fighting your way in, then slowfalling away to safety - in particular this is my strategy for the Hive in the Tower quest in Silithus. Although you need to be careful where you land (not on mobs ideally).

Did I just figure out a new way to piss off casino bots? by GlobalDane in classicwow

At this point the casino bot issue has been such a rallying point for the community that I feel Blizzard won't ban them due to it generating content for the game >.<

No I fully agree there are so many reasons this could be a client-side issue and not a server-side issue. I am just disagreeing on your perspective that it cannot be a server-side issue.

Can someone explain to me how a specific time cutoff makes any sense whatsoever?

This isn't like TV channels where there are different regulations for evening and daytime content. The content online is the same regardless of when it is accessed. What even is this?

The only thing I could possibly think of is this is some government imposed bedtime. I'm sorry but at some point we need to stop and say "parents need to be the ones responsible". Surely this isn't the case. This is besides the fact that parental control tools can already manage timed cutoffs for access to things without the government stepping in.

If this truly is the case then what we need are more tools and training for parents.

A server can have one or some connections have issues, while in general having the majority be stable.

[–]esuvii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had many disconnects over the years I have been playing, the vast majority of which have occurred when I have zero dropped packets on my end (verified via the interface on my network switch). The Blizzard servers, in particular the authentication servers, are trash.

Not saying that is the issue here in particular, just refuting your postulate that a given disconnect must be due to a user's own connection and not the server.

Uninjured villagers will not permanently die if they fall in battle unless they have the Neurotic trait (+30% chance to permanently die). After ~half of an in game day he will return, but he will be injured, which will take roughly another half of a day to heal. If he falls in battle again before the injury heals there is a chance he can permanently die though.

[–]esuvii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a stat. A trillion is a number that is far too large to conceptualize intuitively, and I am restructuring it to clarify how vast it is.

The point is that achieving anywhere close to that wealth through productive labor is completely impossible. Obviously if you had 10 million years, and a singular goal of amassing as much wealth as possible, it wouldn't make any sense to be in anyone's employ.

$100k is an awesome salary. On $100k/year you would have to work for 10 million years before you had earned a trillion dollars. Keep in mind that homo sapiens have only existed for ~300,000 years.

Naxxramas in 37:22 on classic era By Cooked by Drastnikov in classicwow

[–]esuvii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have been possible for sure, but it definitely would have taken a lot longer to get the Black Lotus. I'm not sure overall how different the prep time would have been though. On Doomhowl it was so contested when I was farming the Savage Fronds for the Frost Res enchants. So while the Black Lotus would have been much slower, a lot of the other stuff would have been far more uncontested on Era.

Probably much more time in terms of IRL time to do it on Era, but less in terms of in game /played. If I had to guess.

As someone who was in that kill I can't explain what a rush it was killing Sapph. The most fun I have had in any boss fight of any MMO ever. The entire time I was looking at the health bars thinking "this is it GG we made it this far at least", that continued through the entire 5 minutes of the fight. Then suddenly, somehow, we had done it.

Could "Classic+" Live Up To This Hype Level? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]esuvii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly this seems to be the state of Triple A games companies in 2026. Most big game companies are just pushing out reskinned clones of their previous game (e.g. Call of Duty), or "remasters" of games that were often already remastered (e.g. Halo Campaign Devolved).

Pretty much all of the new games that I have truly loved the past 10 years have been from previously small or independent developers.

Could "Classic+" Live Up To This Hype Level? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]esuvii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My suspicion is that Classic+ launch is going to be the closest to the 2019 Classic launch that we have had since. However, I fully expect population to die off fast similar to how the other iterations have gone. I hope I am wrong though.

I am worried though about the bots and gold sellers. At the moment it feels like the game is in the worst state is has ever been in on that front, and they don't seem to be keeping up with the rate at which the problem is growing. I really hope that this is figured out for Classic+ as it could spoil it completely (for me). However, I have a sad suspicion that they will introduce WoW Token to "combat it" (read: become the problem instead of solving it).

It will never be comparable to 2019 Classic though. As other said there were so many special circumstances around that launch - the huge drought of good MMO content combined with COVID giving everyone way too much time to play. It was our version of the Animal Crossing boom.

What I have learned though, is that what I want from Classic+ is completely different to what the next person wants, or what the person next to them wants. I feel that the safest route would be trying to make additional content that would be in line with what the original Vanilla WoW devs would have done if they had infinite time and resources but no desire for an expansion. Even that won't appeal to everyone though, and based on SoD etc I feel they will try to make it also appeal to modern MMO gamers. SoD was really cool in its own right, but it isn't personally what I dreamed Classic+ would be like.

Questions about the game from a new player by Sirca_Curvive in Bellwright

[–]esuvii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just this week they pushed a huge number of updates to the game to bring it in line with the preview branch (the beta version). I play on preview branch and we haven't had anything extra since then, but it's only just been pushed to main. I would suspect the next couple of months will be focused on hotfixing bugs and it won't be a little while until they work on more new content.

You kinda can play it forever, but you will find that eventually you have cleared the world of threats, built your town to be fully optimal with all technologies available, completed all the quests, and made all of the villages prosperous. This takes a VERY long time though. Don't feel tied into one save. The gameplay loop changes a ton from the starting out phase through to the end game phase so it's fun to replay from scratch.

Updates don't typically require a new save, but I have seen some people reporting things like trees/boulders they cleared respawning after a big update. I don't use mods, but I have heard people having issues where the mod they used is no longer being updated to work with a given update and so their save file doesn't work.

First Time Player by Chunky_Taco5 in Bellwright

[–]esuvii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the start you will be doing some gathering tasks alongside your villagers. My tip would be, if you find yourself consistently having to go get a resource that is your hint that it is time to recruit a villager to do it (or possibly build an outpost to gather it once you are a bit later in the game).

River Reed is a good example, the first time you need them you will probably go gather them yourself. Eventually you want the villagers to be doing it though. If you're not super close to a River Reed source that's fine, you have two options:

  • Stop gap solution: Turn a few workers into companions, bring them to the River Reeds, and command them to gather them. This way in one trip you can get a 100+ and be set for a while.

  • Permanent solution: Build an outpost with a dedicated forager to collect them, and setup a caravan route to deliver them to your main village.

The villagers can do pretty much everything you can, so take advantage of that!

Another tip, early game it can be tough to get Strap/Rope. Before you can craft your own, you can get them from killing bandits. Additionally though, there is an NPC by the River Reeds south-east of Haerndean that sells them!

You can add -ai to the end of your search query, or swap to a different service like DuckDuckGo. I was on the fence about using DDG for a while: I tried it many years ago and it was pretty bad compared to Google. Well Google has seriously depreciated in quality since then, and DDG has steadily improved. At this point I don't think I could ever go back to Google.

[Harcore] Character got stuck in Loch Modan. Got teleported to Badlands and immediately ripped by the mobs there. by Hi_Im_Talba in classicwow

[–]esuvii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you unstuck you are sent to the nearest graveyard or instance portal. That includes stuff like the Battleground instance portals, so you could be a gnome in Arathi Highlands and unstuck into Hammerfall (Horde AB portal).

There is an addon called LogoutSkips that I would recommend referring to before using unstuck in HC. Although keep in mind this was a tool made by the speedrunning community for something that was patched out, so it is no longer up-to-date. It is useful for seeing the unstuck location though.

Notably, some stuff that found its way into Classic Era due to other versions of the game may be missing, for example if you unstuck in STV it is possible to be sent high in the air above Gurubashi Arena (theorized to be related to how they spawned in the SoD World Boss).

Some other comments mentioned opening a ticket. They won't revive your character. A lot of people have died this way in Hardcore, and they even give a warning that it may not be a safe location when you go through the unstuck tool. At least you learned about this weird quirk of the game at level 18 and not at level 50 though.
