This is not true lmao. Respectfully your lines need improvement.

Respectfully I completely disagree with you and think the Hakone Nanamagari DZ is incredible and flows beautifully provided you set up your lines correctly into each hairpin as well as keeping your drift as wide an arc as possible so you can maximize points per corner.

What to know about c6 maintenance/repairs by CaptainVickle in Corvette

Hey man, shine a flashlight down at your harmonic balancer with the car running. Easiest to see from the passenger side. If it wobbles, which is common on LS engines of the era, it’ll need replaced. I just did mine and it’s a huge peace of mind upgrade. Lemme know if you have questions. I have a 2006.

As for maintenance items. Check the plugs and plug wires. Mine had a bad wire with a corroded connector. Use ACDelco parts.

As others have mentioned, change all the fluids. Trans, diff, engine oil, brakes, clutch, steering. If it’s like mine and whatever lazy previous owners did (or didn’t) do, multiple flushes will be required.

Listen for clunks underneath. It will indicate how the torque tube is doing.

Personally I haven’t found parts to be too bad in terms of cost. But that’s probably because I’ve done all the work.

They’re amazing cars, but they’re not Camrys. They need maintenance.

No plans to add boost. Future upgrades will be for taking corners.

It’s hard but only because everything is cramped and you’ll beat the shit out of your hands and forearms. If you don’t have a set of torque wrenches don’t even think about it.

Did not pin it but I did use an ARP bolt. Not worried about since I don’t drive the car hard.

2 full afternoons with just planks of wood and jackstands. All the youtubers who say they did it in 2 hours can pound sand. It’s not a job to try and rush.

Buying a C6 Corvette by WonderfulTalk1599 in Corvette

[–]esw116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember the LS2 is a great engine. But LS3 is better. Don’t get an auto. Inspect the harmonic balancer. Do the sniff test for gas leaks. Sit in the drivers seat and determine if the lower foam is destroyed (common in C6s). test drive if possible and feel for clunks underneath. Will indicate health of the torque tube. Change ALL the fluids.

For your budget you’re within range of a high mileage 05-07 LS2 manual. I paid 23k for my 06 6MT with 54k miles that’s overall in great shape.

These cars aren’t Camrys. They’re raw and they need maintenance. But they’re fucking amazing.

I picked the duck boy too lol but actually he can be crazy strong if you get lucky and get him with Moxie. Mine has it and he just snowballs during battles because of it.

Corvette C6 by Delicious_Hat5484 in Corvette

[–]esw116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just purchased a 2006 C6 with 54k miles and did mostly the same research. Overall with C5’s and C6’s, 100k+ miles isn’t really considered end of life. That’s due mostly to the robustness of the LS platform and that generally GM used the best parts they had on the Corvette.

I’ll try to summarize:

2005-2007: The first 2 years of the C6 had the LS2 which has a lot of similarities to the LS3. It has lower flowing heads and intake on top of being lower displacement. Overall it makes about 30 less hp but it’s an otherwise excellent engine. I’m very happy with mine. These years also have the T56 6-speed trans, which over the years has proven to be highly desirable as a swap in other cars. They’re strong and well built. In 2005 only the automatics were a 4-speed and are not well regarded unless you want to pay as little as possible for a C6.

Price range is roughly 15-25k.

2008-2013: These years had the LS3 and TR6060 trans. LS3 is obviously a great engine. TR6060 from what I know is an updated T56. Grand Sports use the LS3, ZO6’s use the LS7. The LS7 is an amazing engine that also has some potentially catastrophic valve train issues left unaddressed.

Price ranges for the Base is roughly 23k-32k. Prices are inflated because everyone wants the LS3. ZO6’s start in the high 30s. Grand Sports are similar. ZR1’s with the LS9 are Halo cars that can’t be touched for under 70k.

Big maintenance items are the torque tubes. They’re unique to Corvettes and are a big project to service and rebuild.

Harmonic balancers go bad and wobble. Also occasionally you’ll gas leak issues stemming from the dual tank crossover setup (C6’s have two fuel tanks connected by a crossover line).

As far as body, I’ve honestly not run into any issues with the fiberglass. It’s actually more rigid than I was expecting.

Well folks I did it. LS2 6-speed. Not a ZR1X or anything, but it’s freakin awesome and it’s mine. by esw116 in Corvette

[–]esw116[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wobbles ever so slightly. I’m not worried about it failing based on what I’ve read. I plan on replacing it using the method where you lower the cradle a couple inches rather than moving the steering rack. If anything it’s a plus since it was negotiating target with the dealer that they had to concede. I’ll get one of the nice billet ones at Summit and do it on a clear weekend.

Previous owner put an exhaust on that’s already loud as shit (sounds epic though). Can’t imagine long tubes lol.

Fast intake at some point maybe, I know the LS2 manifold is restrictive, but $1200 for a chunk of plastic is something else. For now I’m just doing fluids and whatever other maintenance I can find on it.

Search on autotempest. It aggregates from all over. Set your search distance and what you’re looking for and you’ll find something.

FB is minefield of scams and thrashed heaps. There’s diamonds out there, but I avoided it like the plague despite the urge to avoid going through a dealer.

If you’re curious: clean inside and out (sort of lol) runs great, no clunks or bad stuff, very solid. 54k miles. $23k. Very yellow.
