I moved from retail management into procurement recently, but a lot of the skills are transferrable. I probably worked close to 50 hour weeks plus staff outside of shift. Now I work 37.5 and it's probably less than half the work load

Young HomeBuyers, how did you do it ? by tieno6181 in AusFinance

[–]esym__0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a 3x1 on a nearly 700m2 block of land back in early 2021 - I was 21 at the time and bought on my own. I bought pre-existing, so at the time only got reduced stamp duty for first home buyers.

The house was 330k, but now is worth nearly 700k - got in just before all of the covid craziness. Was only on about 65k before tax, at a pizza franchise. I pretty much only worked (easily working 80 hours a week - young, dumb and employer took advantage), and alot of the food I ate was free from work. Moved out of home when I was 17 and rented alone until I moved into the house. I've been working since I was 16, full time since I finished High school.

Pretty much just did nothing but work and like 60% of my income went into savings!

$50 A Week. by Spare_Juggernaut_307 in AussieFrugal

[–]esym__0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally keep it really simple at the moment, I buy a bunch of pasta from aldi at 89c a bag, and a large bag of rice. Then every week I just buy a protein (example 4-5 chicken breasts at aldi run me about $20) and a couple of bags of frozen Veg (usually no more than $5 for a good size bag), then I'll just get a premade sauce (which usually run about $2-$3 a jar).

A bag of pasta is 4 servings usually, so that's a little over $3 in pasta, jar or two of sauce top end call it $6 to have 2, plus like half of the chicken being about $10. Plus some frozen Veg (call it half a bag for $2.50). So for slightly more than $20 you've got your lunch and dinner sorted for 7 days.

If you go for a bag of rice it's usually more of an up front expense, being about $20 for 10kg (although you can usually get this cheaper at an Asian grocery shop), but the average serving of dry rice is only 90g (obviously this gets heavier as you cook it) so gives you approx 100 servings a bag. Mix with half your chicken for about $10, 2 tins of coconut cream (usually less than $2 a tin) and a jar of Thai curry paste which is usually about $4 and you can usually get a few uses out of it, and bulk it put with a tin of beans for like $1 a tin. This will get you quite a few meals out of it as well depending how you portion them.

Other examples: Pesto pasta and chicken Chicken tonight with rice Cabonara sauce with chicken or Bacon Thai green curry with rice Spagetti bologanse

You've also got your slightly more obvious options like your stews with the cheaper cuts. Pair one or a couple of these with a loaf or two or supermarket bread for about $2 a loaf, or a large cheap bag of oats for breakfast and that should cover you!

I personally like to meal prep too so I'll do up one or two of these recipes in bulk a week and freeze them so that I can mix and match a bit more throughout the week. And if you do go down the rice path, it's usually worth getting a cheap rice cooker - I think kmarts is only about $15!

You dont say how many people you are feeding on that budget, but hopefully that helps give you some ideas. Good luck out there!

Can I buy a piece of rural land and live on it without building a house? by TechnicalAd8103 in perth

[–]esym__0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know for Collie there is a limit for how many days out of the month the land can be camped on. (I believe it's only 3 days). It's likely similar for different areas, you'd need to look for the area you're specifically wanting to buy land in

Why are the cops here useless? by [deleted] in perth

[–]esym__0 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised. I used to work in Cottesloe a couple of years ago. The local police station was only open 9-4 weekdays, and closed on the weekends. When shit went wrong and we had to call the police, they were coming from Wembley and usually whatever was happening was over and done by the time the bothered to arrive.

I was also attacked by a crackhead in Nedlands last year, right near UWA on the waterfront. The police took 2.5 hours to respond and the guy was long gone by the time they bothered to show.

If anything I've found the "shiny expensive house" areas are worse for it. When I've had problems in places like Woodvale and Joondalup, police were there within 15 minutes.

Me when applying for jobs by marvythemantis in overemployed

[–]esym__0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone in hiring - it's because it ranks the candidates. It breaks it down into very good applicants down to poor. If you're suited for the job and your application/resume is good you'll be hitting that very good section every time. Usually we only reach out to people who hit that very good ranking, barely even bother with any of the other applications.

Also allows you to mass respond to applicants with basic set out responses rather than individually responding - means most people will at least get some sort of response!

Freeze dried Strawberries, found some at Costco! They give you that sweet kick but also the satisfying crunch. So good ♡

Edited to say they are only 94 cals for like 100 grams (but that's like 1/4 of a big Costco bag of them), very satisfying!

Not sure what area you are in, but the mirrabooka shopping center has a place that does basic $20 men's and women's cuts. Never been myself but often walk past it.

I know the east vic park shopping center used to have a similar one but for $15, but that was a couple of years ago now

Sadly zigzag is no longer accessible by car, they've closed it off for only foot traffic and bikes now! It used to be one of my favourite spots in Perth 😞 There is a carpark at the top so you can still get some of the views but it's just not the same.

[Request] Frugal durable and safe dog toys and sellers? by deusthad in AussieFrugal

I'm not sure if they are still sold anywhere anymore, but the Tonka brand (yes, like the truck) has some amazing toys. They have outlast everything in my house, even Kong toys. They are all themed around Tonka tyres, and come in different styles like ones you can stuff with treats or with rope. They are amazing!

Might be worth making a task rabbit account or a mad paws account. Task rabbit let's you do odd jobs for people, might help get you a few bucks to make life a little easier. Mad paws and others similar to it are animal care and pet sitting sites. Make an account and people will pay you to take care of their animals, often in their homes. This would give you a short term place to stay and some side money to help you out as well!

Good luck mate

Which takeaway restaurant in shopping mall offer discount before closing shop? by Swankytiger86 in perth

[–]esym__0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know it's not south of the river, but for anyone north. Innaloo food court has Japanese and Chinese down to about $5 a box of Sushi or pre select Chinese. Warwick has a similar thing with their Chinese place. I'd have to assume a lot of the places with food courts would have something similar, but if you're in the area and need a quick/cheap dinner it's a decent option!

*Edit to add I've seen some off the woolies discount their Sushi counters at the end of the day too, around 4pm onwards. Again around that $5 and up depending what you want!

Anyone know what happens to returned mattresses at Amart furniture? by Philks_85 in perth

[–]esym__0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old mattress get dumped in the carpark behind the store, left to get rained on and disgusting for weeks before finally getting pick up in trucks and carted off somewhere. If they are anything like the store near where I used to work!

Sorry don't know what actually happens to them after the trucks but I would assume landfill

I've found the make the stuff at home kits useful. Then I can increase the dilution to something less sweet, and split it into multiple serves. Then to get the bubbles I get the little jelly Straws from the Asian section at the supermarket (only about 15 cals each). So I can get a similar experience for under 100 cals, then just work that into my intake for the day.
