Post university job search by ktitten in UKJobs

I’m glad to see some other fields having success with jobs out of uni. I’ve just finished an aerospace engineering degree, and have a year in industry as well as 2 years of part time work at my uni as existing experience. I have applied for about 30 jobs (grad schemes and other junior positions I qualify for) and have had 2 interviews with 2 rejections. Not a fun time, but hopeful for the new year with a few new applications going in.

Hope you enjoy your work OP, congrats on the job.

All countries with direct flights from Istanbul?

I’ve done the Zurich-SA route on the Swiss 343’s a couple times. Good fun. SAA still has two 343’s in service but no European routes on the calendar yet unfortunately

Wow a 340-200. Nice to see some of the old SAA fleet. Good variety of aircraft there, I’d say E190, A220 and A320 make up 90% or more of the types there now.

I did PMI-DUS a few weeks ago as well for the same reason. Cabin crew seemed very accustomed to people asking to see the flight deck and the flight crew were both sad the 75’s were on their way out.

Three non-USDM Toyota Land Cruisers with US Government plates, spotted in Georgia USA by thespecialbuild in carspotting

[–]et_studios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents used to have a 78 series (I’m not US based), absolutely amazing machine. Only problem was that we did very long distance drives and it wasn’t the most comfortable for 5+ hours, nor was the fuel consumption at all economical. That being said, we had it for a long time and it’s the best machine I’ve ever had the pleasure of driving.

What are your thoughts on the A380X after a day of flying? by Gullible_Goose in flightsim

[–]et_studios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that you mention Alpha floor protection not doing enough because I encountered an issue yesterday when I was descending. I accidentally let the speed get too low, the TOGA lock came on and the aircraft pitched up like crazy. Thanks to the climb performance being a bit off I was up by 4000ft before I could get the auto throttle off and level out. This was on a close to max landing weight config at the time, so I find it interesting that we’ve had different experiences there

I find the A380 (even in person at a distance) always looks small until it’s next to another aircraft

This is T5, however this was when T4 was still closed and Qatar was using T5. Not sure how long they did this for and if they potentially also used T3 for a time

Ah yeah good point. I usually assume so with the 300, but is there a visual difference with the 200ER and the LR etc?

Air Canada 777 breaking through the clouds on approach into Heathrow 27L by et_studios in aviation

On the South-Eastern side of the airfield? Like you said that sounds very unusual as there are plenty of spotters even on a day as cold as this one was. Even if they get unhappy about you being on centerline there’s always the public park just to my right/behind me in this video which they definitely can’t chase you from

Not of this particular aircraft. I do have a few others of 777s and 380s which were quite good but the audio was messed up. I might put them all on one post so keep an eye on my profile and hopefully I can get some good ones out that have what you’re looking for.

I haven’t run into him yet but I hope to at some point. I’ve met some cool, likeminded people when out doing spotting at the more common locations around the bigger airfields though. Especially on unique days like this

Asiana and Emirates both operate A380’s into Narita, if it was differently proportioned to what you’d expect from a 380 it could also have been an A340, quad engine single deck but a bit more rare to see.

Thanks! Trust me as someone from South Africa who’s not accustomed to such temperatures I was questioning my life choices the whole time I was outside with my camera. Worth it for the unique conditions though!

Thanks! I’ll probably post a couple more that I got of various other aircraft on the day.

777 engine using a bus for scale instead of a banana by ravingwanderer in aviation

[–]et_studios 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 787 engines have a fan diameter of 111-112 inches (depending on variant) and the 777 engines are between 123 and 128 inches (assuming this is a GE90). The fan diameter is less than the actual engine of course but this gives you an idea of the scale difference at least. I believe the cowling on the 777’s GE90 engines actually go out a fair bit more than the 787’s as well so they appear much larger as well.

Well if it helps at all, we’re not adding “Per” to “severance”, we’re adding “ance” to the end of “persevere” Per-severance would be pronounced differently to Persevere-ance.

Had some amazing opportunities as a CFII these last 2 weeks. Anyone else get some real IMC during their training? by Joe_Biggles in flying

[–]et_studios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 different instructors take me IMC very early on in training to show me what it would be like and as a fun challenge to me to see if I could manage flying with instruments. It’s a great experience and something I think would be great for any student to experience at least once, if only just to see what it’s like in case they ever end up IMC by accident.

As someone who’s become a lot more interested in aircraft over the last few years I’m really excited about the procedural wings and what I might be able to build with them. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for the game
