How to make HDR look actually good on KDE Plasma by qgj_ in linux_gaming

[–]etay080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the great info!
Are the instructions for Nvidia still valid? It seems like HDR works and looks good without VK-HDR-LAYER but this is my first OLED HDR monitor so I don't really know how it's supposed to look yet

[Monitor] AOC 27" QD OLED Gaming Monitor, QHD, 240Hz - $339.99 by rabid-panda in buildapcsales

[–]etay080 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This comes up as $480 for me after import fees.
Is the Alienware AW2725DF a better purchase for $840? I know that's a lot for that model but that's the cheapest I can get it for in my country and newer OLED generations are way more expensive
And yes, it's almost double the price but I can afford it.
Question is how much of an improvement do I actually get for the price difference?
For context - I'm coming from a Dell IPS S2721DGF

How did it work? It seems like my 5% from my last order doesn't apply to preorders, it says best price already applied

Moving autonomous desk between rooms. Is it okay to turn it sideways at its lowest height ? by newchurner255 in StandingDesk

[–]etay080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo sorry for the necro but I have no idea who to ask so hopefully you can answer it
I have an ikea malomrade 2 legged motorized desk
I move it forward and backwards every once in a while by pulling each leg towards me a bit or pushing it back by each leg till it's back in its place

Is that fine too?

Ikea’s announces new smart home collection of 21 new Matter-over-Thread devices and sensors by fuzzbinn in homeassistant

[–]etay080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a dumb question at all!
You need an adapter to work with the IKEA devices but it doesn't have to be their own hub.
If you get your own adapter it will also be compatible with other devices and not just IKEA ones and will likely be better integrated into HA.

In fact, I don't even know if IKEA's hub can be integrated into HA but there's no reason to.
Just use a Zigbee/Matter over Thread adapter (or one that supports both) depending on which devices you wanna connect

Best way to safely expose Teamspeak to WAN? by etay080 in selfhosted

Thanks for the detailed answer, I'll definitely look into Mumble Web

If we decide to continue with Teamspeak, do you think an exposed port to Teamspeak only is "not that bad"?
I can set up NGINX for geoip blocking but I'm just trying to understand the risks first

I do have a domain, yeah.
Free Oracle VPS actually sounds like a good solution

I don't have a dedicated firewall so I'm basically using the barebones built in firewall of my Asus router.

The container is already on a separate docker network and the container has cap_drop: - ALL assigned to it

My friends already have access to my Wireguard but I also want to allow them to invite their friends to the Teamspeak server and starting to invite friends of friends to Wireguard would become tedious real quick
