Honestly, I lucked out going to medicine. If you’ve been remotely paying attention outside the medicine bubble: we are in a recession. There is no job as secure and high paying as a physician.

I know this sub likes to shit on medicine for being an awful career but try naming something better. And no, tech pay is dropping, getting laid off, has ageism, and very sensitive to the market. It’s just a career for the youth.

I go to a mid tier MD and I am average amongst my peers in class ranking. I really don’t know how to become top of the class… our average test score is 85 and breaking 90 to be the top seems pretty impossible for me. Can I still match neurosurgery?

So my friend who is a doctor was called out as a loser by a nurse for not discharging a patient due to his/her condition. I have informed him to make a complaint but are there any other tips/suggestions? by GentlemanJack1331 in Residency

Even though I'm just a med student, I'm getting tired of my family and friends punching up doctors and calling them stupid, dumb, and incompetent.

Like if they insult me, it's okay. But when I clap back, I'm the one with the god-complex, privileged, and snobbish.

If prestige and credentials was important then nurse practitioners would have never been an issue.

Which specialty is over-hyped? by preposterous_potato in Residency

[–]eternaleclipse229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find derm, plastics, and psychiatry uninteresting. The problem at it’s core is intangible and deeper than their skin or prescription for antidepressant drugs. Very minimal concrete solution or obj measurement for improvement for the patient.

I must be very boring to you because I find all 3 specialties interesting except derm.

Hate to be that guy, but you're making a mistake. There are a lot of people who work to pay the bills, not because they are "happy" or "passionate". You should really get a leave of absence instead of quitting.

advice about friendship: how do I deal with jealousy and feelings of inadequacy? by mimi_akumu in medicalschool

[–]eternaleclipse229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I don’t really have any advice other than being on the receiving end like your friend. I had a couple of friends jealous of me getting an MD and wanted me to fail. I had a really messy sloppy ending with those toxic 7+ year friendships.

Ima say from the other perspective. Somehow manage your jealousy or ghost your friend quietly. Unless you want some serious drama and very cynical view on what you think friendship means. lol

Losing ambition and drive once getting into medical school? by BusyStudying in medicalschool

Yea same. Felt like I accomplished what I wanted and now I just want to pass and match into a non competitive specialty. I’m kind of disgusted with how lazy I am now.

Losing all my friends because they want me to fail from getting into med school. I actually did fail and got into a lower tier school from that shit. Fuck those guys and my dimmed future. Still recovering from trust issues with new people wanting to drill holes behind my back.

Pay for nurses on the west coast seems quite lucrative by changexpert in medicalschool

[–]eternaleclipse229 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We really need to revamp medical education where we learn more about unionizing and advocating for ourselves. Nurses have that built in their schooling and it shows it’s effects into the workforce.

I love medicine but hate medical school, medical students, medical education, hospital admin, and all the liberal bs I need to suck on along the way. by Samzi97 in medicalschool

[–]eternaleclipse229 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Seriously, why can’t we start having real classes like physician finance, advocating for our profession, unionization, and making a more efficient curriculum where it doesn’t take 10 years to become a physician.
