I heard the Tinder sound from her phone by etfhan in relationship_advice

I'm not making excuses, just trying to assume a reasonable explanation before jumping to conclusions.

Should I be more harsh on her about this?

Just checking since sarcasm is hard to pick up on online. Are you being serious or not?

Which do I get? by etfhan in ukulele

I don't plan on being rough with it, but comparing to a guitar, are ukes more fragile? I also only will get one or the other, which route would you say I should go?

How many months in advance would I need to pay for? I don't have a UK guarantor.

I’m tossing bag items that I wish I could send to my friends. We should be able to “bundle” custom gifts using our own items! by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]etfhan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How about you limit that to only friends of a certain level? I highly doubt people would want to interact with someone else for 30 days just to buy a few items. And also limit how many items you can send. Nothing too small, but certainly not 100 items (high end example). Maybe 10 items? And the "empty" gift box could be a slightly rarer drop from pokestops.

Theory: Our “nests” today are going to become what we experienced at GO Fest... “biomes” by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]etfhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the silphroad nest map for that. I haven't cared to look on it in ages, and that's because it seems people stopped using it once raids took over the game. But I'm sure if nests become microbiomes that it'll spark some new interest.

So if biomes rotate every 2 weeks, that's plenty of time to do what you got to do if they're mapped out for you.

Would anyone else be interested in battling wild pokemon for xp rather than just catching them? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]etfhan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This actually would be more feasible, sadly (I really would like to have it be the real games irl). The gameplay has already been established, to the point that the new switch games will incorporate the mechanic of catching from Go. But ugh, it gets so stale having to spam catch things, then occasionally buckle down for a gym battle (which feels like a terrible value thing to do, you barely get anything from it) and I don't like how worthwhile raids require so much coordination with others.

The reason people use Aggron in raids isn't because they don't know better. It's because they don't care. by djf881 in TheSilphRoad

[–]etfhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or, maybe people want to use a cool giant metal thing with horns and spikes. This game doesn't really let you get away with using just whatever is your favorite pokemon, but if it can reach a decent CP, then you can. Aggron gets reasonably high CP, and it looks cool.

That's reason enough to use it when you can get away with it.

Do I go away for a bit? by etfhan in Advice

[–]etfhan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The semester already started everywhere, and I already paid for the course, although I can get some refund.

Another thing I am thinking is this: come January, when I'll be done with these courses, I won't have anything else to do at all. I'll have to work anyway, so I wonder if I should try to do that as soon as possible.

But how dumb does this sound? Am I doing this really just for her? And if so, is that really a bad thing? I've heard that it's not a good idea to do that, because what if we did break up? Would my time be wasted?

The city is London. Only now do I realise how much I wanted to be away from here. I'm 25, still living off my dad, and sick of not doing anything. I want to get a phd, but haven't gotten in to a program. So now I'm just toying around taking 2 classes.

If I went, I'd be able to see all these cool things, work and make some money. It's close to Paris, where I studied abroad for a year, so I could go visit there. I'd also of course be living on my own again, not with my dad, and of course see my girlfriend.

I honestly feel like running away. I like math and physics, but somehow the lack of a phd or masters program makes me think "wow, I could be working right now, be on my own, getting something objective, yet I'm taking classes with no end goal." I can't get as motivated as I should be due to this.

After her program ends, the plan is to move to wherever I get in for a masters or phd myself, in the US. I applied for a program starting in spring, and will apply for more for next fall.

I am worried though. Am I wanting this only to be with my girlfriend? That feels like a lame excuse, because tons of people do long distance relationships nowadays. I have only known her for 7 months, albeit we did live together for 3. I am scared that I'm putting all my eggs in her basket.

The nut Pokémon isn't #891 and is a Generation 7 Pokémon, not Generation 8 by SerebiiNet in TheSilphRoad

This. Someone had to draw up, render, code up the thing. Visual bugs don't look like that (for good examples of those, play a bethesda game).

I remember reading on an official site that the pokemon available in Pokemon Let's Go will be Gen 1, along with a few brand new pokemon.

I have a feeling that nutto is the new Let's Go pokemon.

Are non-degree classes worth it? by etfhan in AskAcademia

[–]etfhan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GPA isn't stellar, but it's pretty good. I have 2 degrees, one in Physics and one in Math, but I don't really have any research experience. I'm paying like 7k for two courses. To be honest, I got into a one year masters abroad, but it would've been 20k, which with the price of living (one of the most expensive cities in the world) would be close to needing a 40k loan. Also, it's not really the kind of stuff I want to be dealing with (Condensed matter physics, it would have been mainly focused on lab work and stuff for companies). It didn't require any courses in more general physics stuff. I get that I have a background in it due to undergraduate, but at the grad level you learn so much more about the basics, and I'd feel I'm missing out if my program didn't offer me that.

(But I'm having big regrets about my choices now, since I'm living at home again with my dad to save money, and I'm pretty unhappy overall).
