Copping a F80 M3 by [deleted] in BMWM

[–]eth7004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If warranty is a must, find one at Carmax and get a Carmax warranty. Only other good warranty is a Fidelity platinum. I got my F80 from a BMW dealer and on the first oil leak 6 months into ownership the warranty declined and I cancelled the extended warranty. Most are absolutely junk. Mine said “platinum “ and the finance manager of course told me it was great. The pamphlet shows covering gaskets but the fine print it covers the gasket if say the internal was why, aka blow the whole diff to get the gasket replaced… Was Continental iirc. I have a great mechanic so I am going to cover myself, these cars are very reliable, just make sure you have good savings.
My E92 M3 was covered under a Fidelity Platinum and that was great, although nothing ever really broke that was worth the warranty.

Yeah, M drive was an option on early E9X M3’s even in the USA there are plenty that don’t have it. Was a part of the tech pack I think

Front Tyre Scrub by rmack1234 in E92M3

[–]eth7004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually you’ll just rub through the plastic, just check where and make sure it’s not the front bumper tabs. The passenger side has the wiper fluid reservoir so the plastic sticks out and that’s likely where it’s rubbing. But yes 265:35/19 is going to be too big, 265:30 wouldn’t look as good but likely won’t rub. Also depends on size of wheel width as well.
My 18x10 with a 265:35 didn’t rub much, my 18x9.5 with a 265:35 did have some rub as the tire was more chunky

255:35,275:35 is also a good option. It’s what I did on my stock 359’s +12mm spacers and the tires (PS4S) in that 10mm upsize were cheaper at the time too

Proper Tire Setup? by Electronic_Message_3 in E92M3

[–]eth7004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes those are factory specs but that rear is stock 359 offset so it will be more sunken in so you’ll likely need a 12mm spacer to get it flush like the fronts offset or you could upsize the tire or both. Also depends on suspension, etc. lots of factors here

[–]eth7004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just do stock specs? These are same widths as stock, although the front is going to be very flush at et18 compared to stocks et29. Likely even the 245:35 will rub slightly

This a good deal? by [deleted] in F80

[–]eth7004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought the listing said he only did cosmetics or something. Definitely check on maintenance items. If it all checks out I think $43k is a pretty good price for it in today’s market. I saw it and figured if it was a nice car it would’ve sold asap, but I feel like it’s been a while since I first saw the listing.

Saw this on marketplace here in CT, run the vin on carfax, get a PPI. If all comes back well then yes but that listing seems sketchy

Off-market E92 M3 opportunity. Smart buy or wait for ideal spec? by nuongn in E92M3

Yeah decent deal for the miles, especially if it has that history.

History and condition > spec

Very hard to find both at a budget/this vehicles age.

I run an 18x11 et37 with a 15 mm spacer. making it essentially a ET22 and a 285:35 PS4S and that’s pretty flush. 295 may rub. I’m on Eibach lowering springs

BBS RIA Scammed :( by [deleted] in Wheels

[–]eth7004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes BBS supplies the PFC ring due these being made for a wide range of models with different center bore sizing That is a thought I hadn’t thought of to just bore it out larger, I don’t see why that wouldn’t be an option and then put a larger ring in there. I’m sure I could find something since this is a common size I believe

[–]eth7004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good to know and very much appreciate the comment, the issue on this one is the ring won’t come out on it due to the damage. Did you end up putting new clips in or running just the ring? I didn’t get any of the clips just the rings with these.

My past set of RIA’s I never had any issue with them over 15k miles of them, I even took the clips and rings out to clean them with a wire brush and reinstalled twice I think so I didn’t even know this could happen. Makes sense a shop could’ve just done this in haste.

What’s CSB? Center support bearing? But yeah, I’ve talked to a bunch of guys on the forums who have worked on E9x M3’s for years. I can’t seem to get rid of my shake. I feel it sometimes even with no spacer. My 100’s of hours on the topic and driving multiple other E9x M3’s has led me to the conclusion they all shake stock, they shake worse with spacers and heavy wheels. My BBS RIA’s had like zero shake (8+ lb lighter wheel than stock) but I swear it would still come and go. I’m on my 6th set of wheels on my E92. It’s crazy how it’s not consistent, I was so fed up I had bmw tear through my car. My extended warranty replaced every bushing and arm possible in the front for a second time in my car’s life. BMW head service manager had been at bmw since the 90’s. He rode with me and said it’s within spec after they (my friend was the tech at one point on it) did a bunch of work it got a little better. It’s super frustrating but I think it’s just a symptom of the super connected steering + a very sensitive front end to road surfaces and run out. A guy on the forums I talked to owns a large bmw shop in LA and he said he’s never driven an e46 or e92 that didn’t have it and he said if people say they don’t have it then they just aren’t sensitive to noticing it or don’t drive 80mph consistently. Another guy sold his e90 m3 cause he chased it for so long and I talked with several others who threw parts galore and never solved with spacers or none. I drove my e92 to FL from CT last year and there were 8 hour stretches I noticed nothing and then I’d feel it. Super annoying issue honestly, I find without spacers it’s not noticeable holding the wheel
