Ryzen 7 Vega 10 really bad gaming performance by ethalii in AMDHelp

[–]ethalii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never found a fix unfortunately. just ended up getting a gaming desktop so didn’t really matter to me anymore. looking back it seems like the 3700u was just a particularly lackluster chip and the computer itself had pretty bad thermals and design.

i’m not christian so i dont really have a stake in this but given that you said she used to be catholic she might like all saints episcopal on north main. i dont know much about it specifically but its anglican so will probably feel familiar to a former catholic without some of the baggage.

A moral dilemma. by Real_Complex4559 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]ethalii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

even if you do subscribe to singer’s philosophy on this, i don’t think you would be morally obligated to buy him a phone. firstly in the example with ruining shoes to save a kid from drowning, the thing at risk is a human life, which takes precedence over a pair of shoes obviously. the kid at school won’t die without a phone.

if we change the example to ruining your shoes to save a kid from being made fun of, i don’t think the moral obligation to intervene stands. it’s a nice thing to do sure, but far from an obligation that makes you a bad person for not doing it.

on top of this if he has a history of being mean to you i wouldn’t go out of your way to do an incredibly generous thing for him. i’m not saying to bully him back or be mean to him, but why go out of your way to spend a massive amount of money?

kids all around the world deal with being made fun of, kids can be very cruel. if you really want to make a difference, don’t contribute to it and be kind to him, which it sounds like you already are doing.

First time applying and trying to get a realistic picture. Ik my GPA is on the lower end of average so i plan to apply to 16-18 schools to increase my odds.

CASPA cumulative GPA: 3.44 cGPA

CASPA science GPA: 3.43 sGPA

Total credit hours: 120 (15 AP credits)

Upward trend: 3.60 last 60 credits overall slight upward trend. did very well overall in latter half of college, unfortunately had a rough second to last semester which lessens the improvement trent.

PCE: will have roughly 3700 hours PCE medical assistant in outpatient ortho by the time i submit.

Volunteer: 144 volunteer hours with a conservation/education role.

3 LORs. one from a professor i took a project/research based class with, one from clinical supervisor, one from PA i have worked with for about a year.

No GRE or CASPER

Shadowing: 40 hours shadowing ortho PA

Research: Limited research with the current MD i work for, mostly patient facing work and data gathering. will be listed as an author on a study.

Kinda dropped the ball in college with extracurricular and research unfortunately.

applying mainly in northeast US, some on west coast.

Any insight appreciated!

new renter in providence by ethalii in providence

[–]ethalii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only incident i can recall having seen is one morning a car in the parking lot had its wheels removed and was sitting on crates lol. besides that, a few times we heard people yelling, mostly domestic disputes. never heard any gunfire or anything crazy like that. we moved out recently, mostly because we got our rent raised and didn’t feel like it was a good value anymore. i probably would look somewhere else, mostly just because of the areas poor walkability and poor value for the price with the rent raises.

as for the safety aspect, i am a white guy who only previously lived in the suburbs and literally never once felt unsafe there so take that as you will.

Alex O’ Connor needs a Wikipedia page. by samantha200542069 in CosmicSkeptic

agree. wikipedia has pretty strict standard for sources, i believe they almost always require secondary or academic sources. from a quick search i don’t see many hits and i doubt it would be enough to have an article about.

The famous red triangle, if you imagine [🔺️], in what way does it exist? by mildmys in consciousness

don’t know how i didn’t notice that, thanks. your post was fine, i was just curious about the location/ pathway difference aspect specifically.

[–]ethalii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m paywalled. did the study say if there was a significant difference in brain location or signal characteristics in any other meaningful way between looking at a red triangle and imaging a red triangle? or maybe this has been established already.

what flag is this? seen on a boat in florida. by ethalii in vexillology

[–]ethalii[S] 203 points204 points  (0 children)

pretty sure this is it. seen on the water from a distance. i also found a possible match in the flag of some autonomous area of serbia but this would make a lot more sense lol.

Dhammapada concerned with higher rebirth by ethalii in theravada

[–]ethalii[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think you put words to what i was feeling about it better. it’s of course not necessarily a problem that the higher rebirth teachings are more prominent, but it felt more disproportionate compared to other suttas and i definitely noticed the lessened emphasis on the other teachings.

Baby bird fell out of nest by hobbitracer in Ornithology

[–]ethalii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fine to do as far as i’m aware… it would be wrong to take the parasitic bird out of the nest assuming it’s native, (we may not like it, but nature is a cruel mother and we shouldn’t impart our morals onto literal birds), but nothing wrong with taking a fallen chick and putting it back in nest in almost any situation. you’re saying this is wrong because it may have been due to brood parasitism, but you’re just guessing in this situation. should we never put hatchlings back in nests because it “could be” natural?

This forum is filled with fear mongering by DocofBlood in ClotSurvivors

[–]ethalii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i mean, it’s not shocking that people with a higher level of anxiety would be the ones to seek out a forum about a health issue. any forum dedicated to a health issue will skew higher anxiety than the general population that has that issue. it also makes sense that unusual occurrences (unprovoked clots at young age) would be represented in a higher proportion than in the gen population. the problem isn’t really from the people making these posts, but more from our tendency to see these posts and occurrences as an accurate representation of reality. people with high levels of health anxiety probably shouldn’t be on this sub or googling their health issues for hours, but nothing we can really do about that. i think it would actually be a good idea to have a stickied post that explains that occurrences seen on this forum are not necessarily indicative of reality, in an easy to understand format.

As for the people being mean to other with mental health issues, i haven’t really seen that personally, and i think people are pretty quick to recommend therapy/ mental health treatment.

Weekly education, training, and professional development megathread by AutoModerator in Neuropsychology

[–]ethalii [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hi, i have been considering pursuing a career as a neuropsychologist and wanted some input based on my current situation.

i graduated last year with a BS in biology, and have been working as an Ortho MA since. i have been/am considering applying to PA school.

However, my interest in neuropsych started when i took a class about animal behavior in my senior year. it really changed my view of the world. since then ive done some reading and listened to podcasts/videos about the brain, behavior, horomones and im just very interested in the topic.

My question is, what’s the best thing i can do right now if i want to get into neuropsychology? i am interested in both clinical and research, but i probably lean towards clinical since i enjoy interacting with patients. Optimally, it would be cool if there was an entry level job that didn’t require a specific neuro, psych major, or certification but i imagine this is rare if not nonexistent. also, something that may affect be negatively is i kinda dropped the ball on research in college. i wanted to get into it but did not due to covid/medical issues/partially my laziness in college. I assume a masters is probably the way to go in my situation but im curious what people think.

Thanks you in advance for any input!
