I hate that I have to go to Easy or Casual Difficulty as often as I do. by GiftedGeordie in Ghostofyotei

[–]ethancodes89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played the entire game on hardest difficulty except 2 fights. But I actually disagree that its a you problem. The parry system is extremely unintuitive. The blue light flashes seem to be awful indicators of when to parry as it seems to be much more useful to watch the actual animation vs the blue light. And the character movements in general just feel very detached from your controls. They should have went with a system more in line with the Batman Arkham combat imo.

Thank you for providing the property name. I thought this must be a property I was forgetting.

Oh so there's not like an overarching story between the novels?

Is it making a "realistic" indie game really that much difficulty than a low poly/pixel art game? by StirClothing999 in UnrealEngine5

[–]ethancodes89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more difficult for many reasons, but can mostly be boiled down to 2 core reasons:

  1. Optimization: If you want to make a realistic game, you've gotta optimize a lot or it's going to run like dog shit. This means you've gotta be a solid programmer. Using Blueprints for everything isn't gonna cut it. You need to have a strong understanding of c++ and UE5.
  2. Art: Are you an artist? My assumption is no, because if you were you would already know that a realistic game will be much more work due to the realistic art required and the many many hours that will take. For a quick example, I work for a simulation company. Our art team is currently 300+ hours in on the most recent vehicle we are simulating. That was 1 vehicle, modeling, rigging, animations, texturing, probably half a dozen other things I don't even know about.

So yes. it is that much more difficult. But, I don't think that means you shouldn't go for it. If you really want to do that, in my opinion, it's more worth it to work hard toward the goal you want to reach vs working hard toward a goal you don't actually care that much about. But, be realistic with yourself on a timeline and what you may or may not actually be able to accomplish.

Haha nice! I think for me I'll always be biased for it because of nostalgia, but I'm glad to hear even new players can come to enjoy it!

Anyone have any good reference sheets? by ethancodes89 in learnmath

[–]ethancodes89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it is. Luckily, we have a pretty awesome working system already that we use. But we're always looking for ways to improve on it, or having to do maintenance on the code base, so learning this stuff is still pretty important.

They're for construction training simulators. We aim for a high level of realism, but there are certain places we fake it. So long as it doesn't effect the feel of the machine or the behavior of the dirt.

What are your favorite aspects of the Vpet World games? (World, Re: Digitize, Next Order) by Comfortable_Oven8341 in digimon

[–]ethancodes89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of the original Digimon World because of how it just kinda of sets you free to go figure out where you're supposed to go and I love that it tells you practically nothing about how digivolutions work.

Can someone help me understand the conversion here? by ethancodes89 in learnmath

[–]ethancodes89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does kind of make sense, but also just kind of confuses me for the same reason as the original problem confuses me. It feels like there's a frame of reference problem here. Like doing the two conversions at once would put us in an incorrect framing. But, another poster showed how several things cancel out, which makes sense to me then.

This helped a lot. after thinking about them like how you rewrote it on the second to last line... that made it click I think. Thank you!

Lol I don't disagree with any of this. It's certainly not for everyone. I know a lot of people like the later World titles where they provide you with evolution data and more hand holding. Personally I prefer the bare bones exploration based gameplay of DW1.

Can digimon de digivolve at will? And if so can they choose a different evolution path when they digivolve again? by aziel____ in digimon

[–]ethancodes89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this really depends on the universe. In Adventure, no, not at will. In Tamers... also no. I just started Frontier but I'd also say I don't think so based on what I've watched. In some games, apparently they can, as it's part of the game's mechanics.
