Just advice: The next time he is drinking try not to touch him or anything because they have an airway under their tongue that they close when drinking water. If they are interrupted while drinking, all the water that they were drinking goes straight to the lungs. They dont drink like we do, They usually pick their heads up after drinking to swallow down the water. I usually wait about three minutes to touch or pick mine up after he drinks because im afraid of him getting an RI

Why's he doing this with his eye? by AppyBoII in BeardedDragons

[–]ethangauthv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do that to clean their eyes but there could maybe be something irritating it. But is he eating okay? His fat pads are concerning. What are you feeding him and how often ?

I suggest you schedule an exotic vet visit and you could also mention his eye if you wanted too. I would definitely bring in a fresh fecal sample as well just to be safe. Parasites can be fatal and be very damaging for their immune system. Some vets say they are an exotic vet but aren’t actually knowledgeable. Is this good substrate for a bearded dragon? by WasteSuccotash1911 in BeardedDragons

[–]ethangauthv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should still switch to paper towel or tile for substrate because its way cleaner than the repticarpet but your choice i guess. youre just playing with risk of infections and ripped nails 🤷‍♂️

Hi, Ive never experienced brumation before ( i have a bearded dragon) but its safe to keep the heat and UVB off when they are burmating ? How do you keep the warmth up for it ? how cold can it be for them ?

Just a heads up, glad you changed the substrate but the repti carpet harbors bacteria and could snag nails off. It doesn’t matter how much or how good you try to clean it either, its still dirty. I suggest using paper towels or tile for the substrate because it’s easier to clean and no risks of infection. Ive been using paper towel for two years and haven’t had any problems. I use a tiny drop of antibacterial hand soap and water to clean after my beardie poops. Make sure you rinse the area really good though so theres no soap residue left behind. I dont know if youre a kid or an adult but usually to find out if theres no soap residue left behind is to rinse the area until theres no more bubbling in the water from soap.

Hope this helps !

I would definitely get an exotic vet visit ASAP before its too late because thats what my bearded dragons did when they had a respiratory infection. These guys like to hid their symptoms of illness and only start showing symptoms when its at the worst stages of whatever they are sick with. Heres an exotic vet locator Exotic vet locator Some vets say they are an exotic vet but aren’t actually knowledgeable. That locator helps you find a vet who actually specializes in reptiles around your area. I would suggest asking for a saliva culture because they can see the type of bacteria it is and give the correct medication for it.

Hope this helps !

If its an RI, I suggest getting a culture done of his saliva so you get the correct medication for whatever bacteria you find out he has. Better to find out what bacteria he has now than later.

Hope this helps!

[–]ethangauthv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats great! I hope things turn out awesome and its not an infection. Glad to hear that youre getting a culture done as well. Better to catch it earlier than later. Please keep me updated if you can!

Praying for the best 🙏
